      carlos sabogal bro your still wrong 😂the geth were the victims from day one, and only ever wanted to defend themselves. The game goes out of its way to show the quarians as stuck up A holes who will never treat the geth as equals (aside from tali) while saving both races is ideal, it is clear that one race deserved to leave over the other. Even when the geth destroy their creators, they show remorse and regret, showing their “humanity” so to speak. When the quarians destroy the geth, they don’t give three shits aside from tali I choose the geth 9 times outta ten when I can’t save both. While tali may be an exception, her race does not deserve to live over the geth. (Also keep in mind tali kills herself, the geth woulda let her live for sure)

    • @OswinPond
      @OswinPond 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don't think so.
      Unless you're speaking of the original trilogy in that case ok, they weren't emotional. But episode I II III are emotional as fuck!

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Episode 3 is emotional but only because it pushes itself to melodramatic horseshit.
      Episode 1 and 2 are vapid un-emotional horseshit.
      The original trilogy managed a genuine emotional investment, the destruction of the first Death Star had more genuine emotion than the entire Prequel trilogy.

    • @OswinPond
      @OswinPond 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lol the destruction of the first Death Star has no emotion at all. It's just so flat.
      The only emotion moment from the OT is Vader's death, but thanks to episode 4 and 5 for the build up (and the prequel trilogy improved that)

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In your opinion maybe, but the majority of audiences fell in love with Star Wars BECAUSE of the emotional stakes. the Prequel trilogy is more divisive because it does such a poor job at being emotionally engaging.
      whether that be by its flat, intentionally monotonous delivery or by its utterly insipid dialogue...
      The Prequel trilogy destroyed Vader's character irreparably
      Vader didn't 'fall to the dark side' he was fucking tricked because he's got all the perceptive powers of a 4-year old,
      This is basically Anakin's character in Episode 3:
      'Oh, you're the sith lord? SHIT WHO'D HAVE SEEN THAT COMING?!'
      'I know I'm literally stepping over the corpses of Jedi you just killed but you seem like a trustworthy dude!'
      "Oh god... I killed Mace Windu!'
      "Oh, that 'we can save Padme' thing was just conjecture and you don't actually know how to do it yet? whatevs, still on board for whatever you've got planned!"
      "You Know how I was expressing deep regret over killing Mace just like... three minutes ago? well I'm gonna go massacre some kids now! because fuck subtle progression or actual character logic!"
      The Prequels are only emotional if you're a fucking IDIOT.
      the contrivance involved in creating their drama is so blatantly obvious that most people didn't buy into it.

    • @OswinPond
      @OswinPond 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "The Prequels are only emotional if you're a fucking IDIOT."
      Or how to lose all credibility and demonstrate, once more, that the prequels haters (that are a minority) are just inferior people.

    "Your people started this war. We will end it." sums it all up, really. The quarians got what they deserved. They instigated war twice and both times they got their asses handed to them; the only difference is the first time the Geth let the survivors go because they didn't want to completely wipe out their own creators.

    • @One-Week-Wizard
      @One-Week-Wizard 8 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      So what if the Geth are machines? They have evolved sapience which later develops into true free will, which makes them as sentient as any other person in the universe. Why isn't it also their planet in that case?
      Granted, making peace is the best option (is it?) if you're going for points (though enough multiplayer can cope for them), but there's a reason "we're letting the Geth die" is the renegade option and saving the Geth is paragon. The fact of the matter is, the history shows (Morning War, pre-Reaper War) every time the quarians felt like they had an advantage over them they immediately attacked the Geth without mercy. Both times the Geth have done nothing but retaliate with brutal efficiency.
      The Quarians have never attempted diplomacy, never tried to settle things amicably, just immediately initiated war both times. Hell, your Shepard can outright tell them to NOT GO TO WAR in ME2 and they still do it anyway because their admiralty board are filled with complete morons. You have Gerrel, who will stop at nothing to attempt to blow up everything remotely shaped like a geth and who will throw the lives of his entire race and others away to do so rather than colonise another planet, backed up by Xen, who despite being a brilliant scientist doesn't give a fuck whether or not the geth are sentient or not and just wants them to return to being cheap labour tools regardless of the consequences of wiping their sentience away from them. These are two of their LEADERS, mind you.
      The greater majority of (*not all, mind*) quarians are nothing but evil to their own creations; hell, they willingly gunned their own people down in order to attempt to kill the geth in the Morning War rather than reach a solution, all for the want to keep their machines docile and stupid and keep them under their thumb.

    How it changed so quickly, Han'Gerrel seems like the good guy in ME2 but in reality he's the arrogant, reckless one in ME3, dooming the entire Quarian race despite commands from Tali & Zaal'Koris (if rescued) to cease fire. Ppl in the comments saying it's all the Quarians' fault for this 3 century war with the Geth, but as you can see in the Geth Consensus mission, not all Quarians are to blame for, its memory contains some of them who has sympathy for their synthetic companions, but they're ultimately outvoted by those who wants to terminate the Geth. Tali, Zaal'Koris to an extent, & with maybe some Quarians civilians wishes for a peaceful solution with the Geth. To say the Quarians deserved to be wiped out is unfair!

    I will never understand Bioware's hatred of Tali. The only thing they showed of her in the entire trilogy the LE trailer... was her death scene. Just like the og ME3 trailer, all they showed was her death scene. Even in the ME2 trailer they play audio from her death scene. She's the easiest character to kill on the suicide mission, being one of the only squadmates who's loyalty mission you can fail, and even if you do succeed you can lose her loyalty when she argues with legion. She's one of the few squadmates who can die doing the one role she's good at on the SM even if she's loyal (also likely to die on the ship), for some reason it defaults to her first for every option, despite the fact that it's not alphabetical and she will die if you pick her for most of them. Oh, she's also the only one of the 3 main squadmates (garrus, liara, tali) from the OT that doesn't even get a mention in MEA. Then of course we have ME3. Still to this day I despise bioware for how they handled this entire story arc. First off, they weren't even going to make Tali a squadmate (despite how popular she was), and only relented at the last minute because of Patrick Weekes. The worst part though is the way they portrayed the quarian/geth conflict. It's one of the most biased, one-sided campaigns that bioware has ever done. They did EVERYTHING to make you sympathize with the geth and hate the quarians, from start to finish. They even made siding with the geth the top option, knowing full well that most players play paragon. They also originally had the 2 options labeled 'allow legion to upload the code' and 'let the geth die', as opposed to 'let the quarians die' in place of the former.
    Still think I'm making this up and they didn't hate Tali and the quarians? Ok, then list one instance where the quarians are involved in the story in any way, and they DON'T get slaughtered. You literally can't. In every game, every book, the comics, etc. the quarians exist only to get slaughtered. Some writer has a fetish for watching them die because it's all they do in all 3 games (hell they even managed to squeeze some more in in to a tie in novel of MEA). It wouldn't surprise me if in ME4 they make it canon that all of the quarians died. In fact I would bet on them doing it.

It's ruthless, but his mistake was a sacrifice that his people payed, it was his choice. If I had destroyed the Geth instead of the Quarians that would send a message that it is ok to discriminate against an entire race of people because of your own ignorance.

    I saved the Quarians. They're organic, and the whole goal of your Mass Effect battle is to defeat the evil synthetics, the Reapers. I know the Geth are NOT anything like the Reapers, but they've been influenced by them before, the Heretics. When you're fighting a war to defeat a synthetic race, and you're an organic, and you must make a choice between an organic race or a synthetic race, I would choose organic. That was my logic. I'm still very sorry for the Geth's destruction.

      Julio Chao I don't think you understand that the Geth are technically the protagonists of that situation, since they're just defending themselves from the Quarians,, hence why the Geth Juggernaut at the end says "We regret the death of the creators." Unlike the Quarians, who simply wanted to kill them or experiment on them. Obviously, the best option is to save both, since they then work together. :D

    • @Quole1234
      @Quole1234 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's actually wrong. Most of the quairans didnt want the war and this was explained in the game. The geth are actually not the heroes of this situation. Remember the geth tried to wipe out all life int he galaxy in ME1 and ME2 and the true geth jsut allowed the heretics to do it without trying to warn anyone. they are just as at fault. On top of that they sided with the reapers instead of just leaving rannoch, a planet that holds no strategic value to them. They should have just left but they stayed for no reason.

  • @MilkyToasty
    @MilkyToasty 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Saving both is not really a cop out. Quarians did not deserve death, due to the actions of a bull headed admiral. The Geth deserved a chance for independence and to live. Both is the only paragon (or ethical) choice really, to pass that kind of judgement on two species we know hardly anything about would be unethical. The reward for being fantastic and getting both sides to agree to peace was worth playing though. To me this ending and the other doesn't happen, its both or didn't happen.

  • @lelouche25
    @lelouche25 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wouldn't call it a cop-out Id call it what the game stands for despite our differences working together for the greater good. Like the Allies did in WWII except they broke apart. In another play through I chose the Geth and It devastated me but damn it all the Quarians brought this on themselves. They played god and got bit in the ass for it. However I believe saving both is the right decision co-existence denying the catalysis his reason for the cycle denying the reapers.

    when you think about it this is really all Tali's fault. when her entire species is moments away from a suicidal attack the best response she comes up with the halt this attack is "admiral please stop". Like i get it from a mechanical perspective they want Shepard to be the one to talk him down based on his reputation and he doesn't step down when Shepard tells him this is suicidal so at least come up with a reason why she can't elaborate about the Geth returning to full strength like he closed the comm channel or she is knocked out or something.

    • @One-Week-Wizard
      @One-Week-Wizard 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair, it's even worse if tali dies in ME2; the quarian admiral you get to replace her (Shala'Raan vas Tonbay) doesn't do anything at all to stop the fleet from attacking, not even contacting Gerrel; she just essentially says "Don't do this" to Shepard and then "Damn you all!" when you choose the Geth.
      It seems silly and definitely doesn't make sense in some cases. Like, they could have had Shep attempt to talk to them afterwards and then Gerrel cuts him off the line halfway with a quick rebuke and continues attacking, or Tali does the same thing rather than doing a half-hearted attempt, or w/e.

    Uhm,, why does the Quarians have to die by the Geth? Legion promised the Geths alliance with Shepard against the Reapers....so why not the Quarians too? Geth with enough Intelligence so any single one has its own Induvidual...so they attack their Creators?
    Also the Geth may have the Inteliigence of the Reapers, but the indoctrination is an ability, not a form of intelligence...so sooner or later the Reapers might indoctrinate the Geth again and then have a Huge Fire Arm power. I only Judge from this Video, because i wanted to know (and see) how the Geth kill the Quarians, but its not explained why.
