Hello! I hope my little note finds you well and happy. I spent the day in my sewing room making scrap string baskets for my daughter's business. Now I get the treat of watching you! I hope you have a glorious week ahead! Thank you for sharing your time, talent and videos!
Wow! I learned a lot. I rarely sit through Q&A quilting vids. But you are new to me and we are neighbors (WA-ID) and I like your attitude. Anyway it was a good session for me. Thank you and your quilting friend for answering questions and giving advice 😊👍💕
That was a good show ….thanks….have issue sleeping sometimes so if I go to bed about 8;30-9;00 and wake up about 1;30-2;00am I watch quilting or cross stitch and it relaxes me again…great show, keep them up
Thank you for this Q&A. I learned a lot. It’s true about the big box fabric stores. Years ago when my daughter graduated from high school, I wanted to give her something special and she asked for a quilt. It was a Trip around the world. The quilt is no longer. I wished there was internet and computers back then. That’s why I appreciate you and your channel for sharing your expertise. Ps you didn’t do to bad on the name, it’s Spanish for Grandma. My grandchildren just call me Bella. Looking forward to the chandelier quilt.
So The Engineer speaks Portugese and my kids speak Spanish. They tease me because I'm from a small So Utah town where everyone speaks funny. They say that's my 2nd language, LOL. Same expereince with my daughters quilt, it was shredded in 5 years. I'm working on the Chandelier quilt at this very moment. See you next week.
Hi Di. Wow, what a great video with a wealth of information. You answered questions I didn't even know I had! I loved the fact that both you and Tammy are so laid back with your "quilting rules" ... you just love what you do and it shows! I got lots of tips and can't wait to see this new Chandelier quilt. Keep on sharing, and I'll keep watching! Thanks so much!
That’s cool about the questions you didn’t know you had. 😎 A benefit of quilting with others is that you learn so much. I’ve got to get busy on Chandelier quilt, have a good week. 😍❣️
When your quilt top wears out to soon, make a new quilt top. Remove the old binding. Make sure the old backing is alright, if not get more fabric to cover it up. Then make a quilt sandwich and requilt (or tie) your old quilt into a new quit. Rebind it with new binding. Some of the old quilts have older quilts inside them.
I hadn’t thought of that until you reminded me. There’s an old saying, Use it up or wear it out, Make it do or do without. My mom always said that to us when we were being wasteful. Thanks for watching.😍❣️
What a fact pact informational video today Miss Di. Thank you so much for answering my question…helped me out tremendously…along with all the other tid bits I learned today. I will have to watch it again tonight just to see if I missed anything. I too have a statler stitcher and love some of the patterns you’ve used. Not sure why I can’t find them in the 12k + patterns that came on the machine. Lol loved the chicken wire pattern!!! So cute. Thanks again for such a great Q&A tonight. Have a marvelous weekend. 🤗🤗
Debbie, thank you! I’m so glad it helped you out. Also glad to have found a fellow Statler Sister. BTW, I’ve purchased a lot of extra patterns that u be why you can’t find patterns I’m doing. I have 3 or 4 chicken wire patterns and I think 2 of them came with the Statler. Again, thanks for watching!
i used to be a seamstress, costume maker, i used raw silks, velvets, velveteen, upholstery fabric, i am glad i saw this video, gave me some great ideas, now i dont have to just use cottons, i like a very warm quilt thanks for the ideas
Great video Di, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. I learned a lot. I’m working on making pinwheels and trying to perfect my points and I don’t like the bulk of the seams in the middle. I like to sew my seams open, maybe that is why. Have a wonderful weekend. 💕
Glad it was helpful Jan! I must tell you as a longarm quilter when I have have little mountains from 6-8 points merge in the same spot...I hammer them down using a heavy but soft mallet. I do protect the quilt with padding. EEK, don't tell, ha, ha, ha. I have a pinwheel project coming up in a future videos :) They are just, springy, summery & happy.
My whole family loves kuddle on the back. I quilt on a domestic bernina(630 or 560). I don't put bating inbetween. If the quilt is not biger then 2x3 m(80 x110 inch) it is no problem. But you need a big table
The tension of the backing is best when it’s horizontal. However, I quilt what my customers bring me. Most backings are vertical because They are cut on the length. Thank you for watching my videos.
No, keep the feed dogs up on your machine. The two feed dogs work together so the top pulls through evenly with the bottom. And yes, I sometimes go backwards to lock my stitch. Thank you for watching ❣️
Not really, there are some fabric stores, though very few, that have quality fabric. A couple of tips, hold the fabric up to the light. The lower quality you will actually be able to see the threads and because there aren’t as many as say a Moda fabric. the lower quality fabric will feel more coarse or rough compared to quilting fabric. Quilting fabric will feel much softer. The LQ fabric will also be way more stretchy because of the fewer threads, which makes it harder to sew precise. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching😍❣️

The tip about using a stitch-in-the-ditch foot for binding was brilliant. Can't wait to try that. Thanks!
Thank you! It’s been a game changer in regards to binding. Thanks for watching❣️

I have a similar sleeping schedule. My sewing room is next to the bedroom, guess what I do?😂
Thanks for watching❣️
Who knew you could combine so many fabrics!!! Thanks so much for your great answer.

@@sisterchicksquilting I heard that a little different.
Fix it up and wear it out,
Make it do, or do without
They had no choice during WWII..

You’re a better woman than I am. I was frustrated with that size on my domestic.
Thanks for watching ❣️
Thank you for the video.
????? As a long armer do you prefer the backing pieced with horizontal or vertical seams?
The tension of the backing is best when it’s horizontal. However, I quilt what my customers bring me. Most backings are vertical because They are cut on the length.
Thank you for watching my videos.
I also have 16 Penelton shirts and want to do a quilt. Just have not known how to do one.
Treat them like fabric and have fun😊♥️🐥
Thank you
You’re welcome and thanks for watching❣️
Thanks

In the next yeats I don't have the space for a longarm.

Do you put the feed dogs down when using the walking foot and also you can not go backwards with the walking foot correct?
No, keep the feed dogs up on your machine. The two feed dogs work together so the top pulls through evenly with the bottom.
And yes, I sometimes go backwards to lock my stitch.
Thank you for watching ❣️
Is any store outside of a quilt store considered a big box store?? And how do you tell the difference between the quality of fabric ? Thanks 😊

I read you can use all soap with no additives or any other soap has no additives for not fading.
Thanks, I didn’t know that! Thanks for watching❣️
