I once watched a reaction video to the emoji movie, because I wanted to see what they had to say about it. Since I was curious as to what everyone thought of the trailer. I watched the hole video of just a person watching the trailer, with a straight face. And FINALLY at the end I expected them to say what they thought about it, but instead they just said:
"Yeah so umm, that was nice, like and subscribe....see ya."

Honestly, you can say that a about a LOT of things. There are let's play channels I've seen take their time to edit out boring bits, put in fitting music, sound effects, crack jokes, and overall just put in a good amount of effort (referring to Tear Of Grace), and only get a few thousand views, and a couple hundred thousand views, but never surpass the million views mark, and also get overshadowed by let's players like Markiplier, who do nothing but scream constantly and overreact to everything and get millions of views.

Kids are easily impressed due to their ignorance and lack of knowledge. Also, kids are generally more attracted to facial expressions, since they are in the process of mentally and physically developing and learning about the world, and observing other peoples faces might stimulate them cognitively in ways we may not even have researched yet. Perhaps they become addicted to it like some people get dopamine rushes with gambling or those games where you can constantly upgrade things with super-crazy rng and cashshops.

I don't know that I'd say that I hate reaction videos. They aren't necessarily terrible. The problem is that they are usually annoying, and some of them are just plain boring. The worst are the ones where someone fanboys over something and starts screaming into the mic, killing your eardrums. I suppose that's fine as a reaction if it's their genuine reaction, but what possesses these people to think that it's a good idea to record this and put it on TH-cam?

And all these years later, low-effort "reaction" videos are still commonplace.
It's a shame that IHE didn't actually mention anything about the parasitic nature of these videos: a creator goes to all the trouble to make a video, putting in effort that can range from hours to weeks, uploads it on his channel, and as soon as it starts becoming popular a horde of "react" people take the content, put their blank faces in the corner of it, and then immediately start cutting in on those views and subscriptions - all for a fraction of the effort of the creator. Ultimately, this can only serve to disincentivize honest creation. It's as bad as those meme aggregator pages on Facebook that take peoples' content, put their own watermark on it, get tens of thousands of views and then leave a link to the original in the comments, as if anybody is going to watch the original after having literally just watched it on the aggregator page.
Mista GG, a relatively small TH-camr, put the whole "transformative" thing really well by saying "watching my content is not a substitute for watching what I'm reacting to". In other words, Mista GG reacts to Catch a Predator videos, but his script, editing and overall production value for his own bits is such that anybody watching his video just to watch the TCAP episode WILL be disappointed - the episode is cut up to only the key bits he reacts to, and the quality of his (scripted) commentary is funny enough to provide a unique experience compared to watching the episode alone. This is a stark contrast to a reactor who sits and watches an unbroken 16 minute video, doesn't edit out the 10 minutes of essentially dead air on his end, has maybe one or two really quality reactions to it, and then says a sentence or two about it at the end.

The only decent reaction I can think of is chadtronic. Instead of showing all the video,he cuts back and forth to from his reaction to the video.

That's exactly how I've been feeling lately, like why make anything when your work is treated like it's not your own and stolen 24/7.
you know its weird. about 5 years ago, i was watching a reaction channel, one of the not shit ones, cant remember who it was, some brony guy. and he would be like "woah!" and have exaggerated reactions and cut the video into chunks where the crazy things would happen
and i thought to myself "hey, you know it might be interesting to film myself just have the video play out and show my genuine reactions, rather than the over exaggerated reactions like this guy is doing for entertainment" then i thought "well i actually would just be silent and motionless and occasionally chuckle, that wouldnt be entertaining at all"

I hate how people just let the FineBros slide by. Only difference between FineBros and reactors is that FineBros has multiple reactors meaning then can have different reactions. I'm telling you know if the FineBros just say one person down to watch a video, it would be the same quality as a regular reaction video.

Well they at least put the effort to get different people who would all have different reactions to react to something so it would not get stale.

Reaction videos are some of the laziest things to do out there. Purely a joke.....and they should be kicked off of TH-cam for wasting time.
Their videos should be demonetised, so there's no easy money from watching youtube and adding nothing but their face in the corner, doing nothing but saying "nice" or "bad".
People who watch reactions have lost their ability to think or they need validation for their thoughts which makes it even worse.
Or you know, they just want to see someone watching something they liked.
kristian perez I agree, in fact reactors can have really funny commentary to add to the video. To me it’s only bad when the reactors just sit there and have nothing to say, but it’s really cool when sometimes a reactor has a story that relates to or is similar to something in a the video. It’s really cool to hear and can be very insightful. I really like I Hate Everything, but I definitely disagree with him on occasion, but that’s just human nature. Not everyone thinks the same.

In the grand scheme of things it makes a huge difference; these people are stealing content off of other youtubers. It's a copyright breach which means a lot of these people just get lots of money for doing jack shit, while the original creators get almost no extra views (why would you, if the entire video is shown to you??)

I rarely use the word "hate", because its a heavy word which everyone uses pretty lightly nowadays ... but I think it describes my perspective on this subject REALLY well! Even before I saw your video, the word "Reaction" had a pretty bad connotation in my eyes and I HATE it if I search for a video and I see this stupid reaction videos as recommended search results.
I can't believe how many people could watch another person to "react" to some video. I mean, is this supposed to be funny? You don't need any additional argument to this matter, because alone the fact that some people watch other peoples reactions willingly for its purpose of the "reaction" alone ... I mean, are you serious? Is this really "Entertainment" for you?
(Plus any argument you brought up in your video. Can I give you a "thumb up" like a million times for that alone? Even without your arguments, I can truly see how you feel about this!)
And in my opinion, you can't see a "pure reaction" in any of these videos. Any "Reactionist" doesn't behave accordingly like they would without the camera, because they try to show their "reaction" on a much stronger scale - in other words: the camera infront of them distorts their naturally reaction, because their "reaction" is geared towards the media. Such a behavior happens all the time on TV etc.. The followers want to see their "reaction", but they can't see that the person isn't "reacting" like they naturally would. I mean, how even would they?
Seriously ... don't give such people the attention they need for such a ridiculous concept of a "video". I certainly won't and I hope this trend will die sooner than later ...
You’d be amazed at how bad the average person is at reading people. Everyone is so gullible they can’t tell what’s real or fake anymore. It’s the same reason that even some of the worst actors in the world can miraculously keep getting cast in important roles in tv and movies.

Chadtronic is technically a reaction channel, however he adds stuff to it, and doesn't "react" to TH-cam stuff that's popular just to get views, he reacts to funny old 1980's videos, videos that don't just make him clickbait and money... and as you said, he does cut out parts where he just sits there... (Reactions are only half of his channel)
OddArtist Animations yeah, he also has made some random unboxing videos, skits, cooking, and his reaction videos are actually really entertaining.
I feel like Chadtronic is the only good reaction TH-camr. He doesn't just show his face, he shows clips of the video and actual funny reactions.

What I hate most about reaction videos is that nowadays whenever I search for a scene from my favorite movie or a clip from an anime, most findings are " reacts to the scene" and most of the time it just says "This scene from that movie".
And when the video starts it goes like "Hi everybody, this is your guy and today I will be explaining to you this scene from that movie" (yeah, because you are so much more smart then us and we could not grasp the scene without you blabbering the whole video about your opinion on it, right?).

This video is an IHE classic. Unfortunately, we're in 2020 and reaction channels are still a thing...
They make up way too much of the "content" on youtube these days. A lot of people grow an audience and then get lazy and start doing reaction videos or copying other successful videos.
TH-cam has become incredibly bland and yawn inducing. If a creator I like comes out with a brilliant video and it hits a million views, I just know that 10 other people in the same space will make an almost identical video within a week

Yes Mr. Reactionist, I'm sure these youtube channels with millions of subscribers already, need YOUR endorsements. I don't have a problem with reaction *videos* by the way, but reactions *channels* whose content is mainly reacting to someone else's content. Use -react -reacts -reaction -reacting -reagera -reagerar -reaktion after your search-words, the search will leave out those words. Spread the word.
I was hoping this would be a phase that would eventually fade away but here we are in 2022. It has even spawned a lazier spinoff: people reacting to reaction videos.
A good example of reaction videos are the Normal Boots/Hidden Block people and Chadtronic. They actually put effort into their videos.

I will fully admit that my channel is primarily a reaction channel. I also post a weekly podcast & Let's Play videos, as well as film & TV Show reviews. But I think I would be lying to myself & my viewers if I didn't call my channel by what it really is. Having said that. After I watch a video, like for instance a trailer for a film, I will try & do an in depth analysis of what I saw & to give a critical review. Also before those videos I try to inform the viewers about the video we are about to watch. Again if we are talking about a film. I will tell you who directed it & who is starring in it & work they have done in the past.
Now getting to this particular video. I think everything you said is correct. There are channels out there that all they do is watch the video & that is it. You were very articulate & knowledgeable about your discussion. Which I also appreciate. You didn't just scream, "REACTIONS SUCK!"

Ban reaction channels. They should not be monetized. TH-cam denied me a few months when I first applied for partnership because of "reused content" or some nonsense. I have over 2,000 videos for nothing now, and 98% of my videos are animations and games. I really hate that youtube is making free money from my animations. I looked back at my top animation video and suddenly it had ads. I was so confused and did research on the new policy that started after November 2020 or something. People like SSSniperWolf are literally getting millions of views for watching other peoples video clips. And I originally watched her back when she did vlogs, every single Sunday, and omegle videos. She doesn't do any of that anymore. She does reaction videos now, and watches a Dhar Mann video every Monday. That is another thing happening now. Everyone is reacting to Dhar Mann videos. I also hate people reacting to anime and cartoons I grew up watching, as though they are something new. None of that is creative, nor does it require any true editing skills. Animation is extremely difficult to compared to any of that. I would know. I worked at Pixar as an intern.

Back in my day, reaction videos are getting someone to play the scary maze game, or making them watch 2 girls 1 cup, and recording them getting scared or disgusted.
