Thanks Rory. You've got to admire Audi for sticking with the basic profile which hasn't really changed over 15 years. I am sure they must have a very strong, repeat customer base. Like the bonnet gas strut, don't like the (too big) dummy air intakes. Looking forward to the S3!

My Mrs has a 8Y RS3, which is about the best looking hatchback ever. Unless the new RS3 is a MAJOR step up mechanically, we certainly won't be going for this new one based on the base model's looks.
Great review, just another small detail, I noticed they moved the S-line badge from the wings to now having a red stripe next to the A3 badge...it doesn't really say much as opposed to the old S-line badge on the fender
The main thing preventing me from going from my A6 to an S5 or S4 is that iPad glued to the dashboard setup. The A6 has the infotainment screen nicely integrated and keeping enough tactile buttons without going too far with screens. Just like the A3 as well. I’d sooner get an RS3 than an S5.
Just a pity the MMI doesn’t work!! Keeps losing radio favourites and other settings every 3 or 4 ignition starts which becomes very frustrating. Audi quoting Dec 24 for a fix. Also affecting Q3, Q8 and other models. Before taking delivery make sure the MMI works properly
Maybe I’m too used to having a gearstick but those gear selectors where you push a slider forward to go backwards and pull it backward to go forwards is so counter intuitive. I see the same on Stellantis products and when I set off I’m forever having to check I’ve not put the thing in reverse by mistake. 3 point turns are fiddly affairs as well, you can forget about keeping an eye on your surroundings when you’re having to look down all the time to faff about with a tiddly little switch

Rory, amongst other vehicles, I own an A4 allroad. I usually reserve it for my 18 year old daughter when she visits from her University. On her last visit recently, she surely took it on all roads... No real damage yet the car was a mess, the rims with winter tires here in mid-winter Canada, full of salt and mud. About the A3 and S3, Audi had made a big mistake. Only available as a sedan here. That pushes it off my shopping list and anyhow, I enjoy the allroad as it has to stretch its legs once in a while, and so do I. Just thinking about when she will buy her own car. My bet is that it will be a hatch or a wagon. Great review as usual. Wishing Audi Canada not to abandon the hatch.
Love the design of this thing, pretty well-balanced. I also appreciate that they will be doing a full-on hybrid, and that Audi is embracing this technology (finally). What is a bummer, though, is that although hybrids are great and a more sensible choice for many, they will not sell in huge numbers. Why you ask? Because governments are pushing EVs, giving subsidies only to full EVs, no bonuses whatsoever to hybrids. Over here in mainland Europe it's near damn impossible to charge your EV at home so hybrids would be ideal. But how can you justify paying 1/3 more... Well, anyways, a good car! Looking forward to Audi bringing this design language over to their SUV line-up, those small- and mid-size SUVs are overdue for an upgrade.
