Active duty Army here- the number of times I’ve heard “I’m just gonna wing it” in reference to the heating pack is a very large amount. And in regards to the American spoon, there has been an Army Ranger who has a confirmed kill with one.
3 years late but The American one contains a single meal, so in the field, in the absence of a kitchen, and the availability of an MRE, you can end up with 3 of those packs a day with 24 menus. The flameless ration heater is a mixed bag, with some working fine, others not really that effective, also depending on the amount of water you put and how sealed the bag is. Not the best retort pouch for sure. It's also got a lot of snacks, with some coming with entire packs of skittles or corn nuts. The spoon and accessory packet is a fixed addition, each containing gums, tissues, seasoning, matches, and coffee or juice. The Russian MRE is a 24 hour ration, that's why it has so much stuff and 3 main meals. It's got less variety , but it's much easier to get to the soldier because you don't need to carry multiple meals a day like the US MRE so you can hand one to a soldier and tell him to come back for another tomorrow, but it's not as diverse and you're gonna get bored of it eventually. The matches are very nice though. There was a scandal before where Russian army served their troops canned dog food re-labeled as premium canned meat, and the whistleblower was jailed for exposing it and they promised the public they won't do that anymore, but you know how Russian government is about promises, so make of that what you will about the quality of the food. Also you have to cook it over flame if you want it to be palatable, which is not nice when you're out in the field trying to stay concealed. Some other MRE's that use heating tablets are French and Italian among others. The Korean MRE comes in 3 forms. One is the one like this, which is dehydrated rice, vegetable and shrimp or chicken or beef, and the actual army ones have sesame oil and the spicy sauce. The second type is a collection of small boxes making up a couple different options, like different types of rice, different main menu, and the usual side dishes like kimchi or black beans. It's meant for quick bulk preparation for units. It's the worst tasting one. The last one is the coveted US style MRE with a zip lock style top, which has a main fried-rice menu with I believe different side dish options being meatballs or sausages. It also has a retort pouch for heating like the American flameless ration heater, but you don't have to pour water into it as it comes pre-packaged with the right amount, and you pull on a plastic drawstring which ruptures the water bag inside of the chemical bag, and the food is placed outside of the reaction chamber before putting everything in the MRE bag and zipping it shut. It really works so much better than the American one, with better reliability and the heat much hotter. It also comes with a pack of army brand M&M's type chocolate which is mid and an almond pound cake that is super dense and hearty with mild enjoyable flavors. The only issue is it's expensive to produce so you're not gonna see much going around.
@@rubberducky767 I tried a lot of them so I thought I'd share. There's some more but they seem to be less popular. IMO the worst is the humanitarian aid MRE, and the best is the French RCIR
"It feels like untapped potential, you know? You know? It feels like that kid who went through school in all the gifted classes and like, went into all the, like, exceptional classes and did really well without even really trying, a lot of effort, and everyone told the kid that like, "hey you're going to be something someday. You're really smart, you're really clever, you're really going at it." But they never applied themselves after that because they got in their heads that they didn't need to. Cuz of all this praise and it kind of got to them, and a-as things got harder, they never really knew how to cope with it, because they didn't really know how to put in the effort in the first place, they were so used to having things be easy for them to be... to shine through. And it's not that they got dumber, it's just that their expectations of themselves were so high that they expected to be able to pass with flying colors without any effort, but as things got harder and they needed to put in more effort so the... effort needed to scale proportionally to where they were, and yet... they kind of drifted and then they didn't really know what they were doing with their life, and they- they- they- they- they- felt like... you know, if they weren't going to get it in the first try they might as well not try at all and they kind of like faded out, and you know, it's not that they like, ended up, like, completely downtrodden and all, they just never lived up to the potential. It was there, but... never acted upon. You know what I mean? ... Turkeyyy!!!" -Markiplier, 2020
This is definitely one of those videos where you can just go back to watch it after not watching it for a couple of months and still find it entertaining
Right?! Honestly I know this isn’t exactly a Markiplier Classic, but this is the first video I tend to think of when I think of “Markiplier”. Always gotta watch it every now and then xD
The previous owners of my house left tubs upon tubs of MRE's. When I was super poor and in-between jobs I lived off these things. I still have a decent amount left in case if emergency. My favorite one was the cheese tortellini.
In the Russian pack, the can he broke was tushonka (meat soup) the one he was eating was kasha (meatloaf) and the powder that he thought was a drink mix was sugar. He used the "Cooker" upside down, the long prongs that he bent upwards were the legs and the short ones were the holder for the fuel, if he did it correctly it would have focused the flame into a long vertical flame. Also you're supposed to open the lid but not remove it completely as it contains the heat and evenly cooks it, he was also right about mixing it, you have to mix it up while it cooks or it will burn to the bottom of the can.
@@romanthegambler6966 Do you know Russian? Does MrCrazyGameGuy know Russian? I don't, but I think only one of you actually knows it and the person who actually knows Russian is right.
Just so ppl are aware, Korean MRE in this video is not actually a military issued MRE, rather it is a commercially available “MRE” intended for camping and outdoor eating.
Yes, the ration from the video isn't government issued, but it's made from the same manufacturing company. So I guess it shouldn't be a lot different from what the actual soldiers eat. (And the ration from the video is only the main meal. The soldiers are actually received a full packet which includes not only the main meal, but also side dishes and desserts.)
don't worry, as a Russian speaker who has had a russian mre, there is nothing interesting to read on them If anyone is wondering what is in the the actual full day mre ,I have written it is Russian and in english for y'all Two types of porridge with beef (square tins) and sausage stuffing. hexamine tablets, can opener, stove, and multivitamin.
Russian pouch: Сахар Mark: What is this? Is this the drink mix? Me a person who knows some Russian: It's sugar. Mark: *pours it his water and drinks it* Taste like nothing. Me: It's sugar. Mark: *finds another pouch and figures out it's the drink mix* If this is the drink mix, what the hell did I put in my water? Me: SUGAR!
Fun fact, Honey is the only non man made food that never spoils ever. Edit: This is only a generalized response and I'm not targeting anyone, but Salt is a rock, not food, it just happens to be edible, and unless you learned how to chew it (Ice does not count) then Water is not Food.
@@karr2619 it depends on how processed it is. In Egypt people are finding containers of honey in the crypts and such that is still perfectly fine, and that's hundred to thousands of years old
@@coryshowinganutrigainbar5689 that’s a common joke lmao, the saying ‘it just fell off the back of a truck’ basically means they got it illegally but don’t want to get arrested
Yeah no thats probably the burning tablet. The meal itself reads govedina which is just beef in russian. Edit: My bad i read the wrong case, the one he opened says kaša perlovaya which i believe is barley porridge. Still not toxic i hope.
Just for anyone wondering about some of the unknown Russian foods, the entrée he heated up was comprised of buckwheat and beef (the one he didn't eat was goulash I believe). The other 2 cans that he didn't recognize were of pâté and a cheese to spread on the crackers, the apple paste was meant to be mixed with hot water to make cider, and the green packet was just sugar meant for the tea. It was also such a big box because that ration is meant for an entire day including snacks. t. Am Russian
America: you need water to cook up the main food Korea: you need water to cook up the main food, but needs to be hot or cold Russia: here's a mini stove, go nuts
I am from Russia, my brother served in the army for 8 years. The second he came home he ran to the kitchen and ate almost all the food we had and the first thing he said was. “Army food gets old very quickly” 💀💀💀
Translation, straight through Google Translate, because I don't speak or know Russian 'And the fact that Mark placed the burner on the table without placing protection under it in the form of a board or plate is a special pleasure'

We also won the attitude check competition!
@@mikegotti4086 I think Amy was referring to the chemical tablet for the burner, what she meant is that the food could've absorbed those chemicals from the fumes because it had already been opened.
mark: overfills heated bag and pours water back in glass,”i’m not supposed to drink that i’ll get more water.” also mark: pours flavored drink powder in the same water
Just wanted to let you guys know what the food was in the Russian MRE. The bigger tins were some form of beef stew, potatoes, and grits with meat. The smaller tins were a cheese spread and a paté spread. The 'apple sauce' was a fruit jam. And the mystery powder he put in his drink was sugar. Most likely for the tea or coffee in the box.
As an american that cannot in fact speak russian ( but I'm hoping to learn a little one day ) Thank you for sharing this information because not knowing what everything was was driving me nuts 😂
As russian, I find it very funny to look at how Markiplier dissolves a whole pack of sugar in a glass, drinks it, and still being confused why the drink is blank
The way he stirred the orange drink made me feel seen. Maybe everyone else does it too, but I have never seen someone else stir in a circle and then back and forth before.
Uh I mean he practically has all the knowledge of a engineer he was 2 semesters of finishing college so he obviously had the potential and intelligence but he just choose TH-cam and that’s not wrong he is making more money and having amazing experiences as a TH-camr I don’t think that working as engineer would be as fun.
But you are right I think that is a complex he has I think deep down he think he could have finished college and still be a TH-camr just to have the degree
Russian food explained Your "apple sauce" is jam that you put on a cracker Your "flour" is powdered milk that you put into the tea The three dishes are meat with vegetables, meat stew and the one you cooked is meat pooridge The thing you put into the glass first is sugar
America: Design it with a lot of safety instructions so that you don't hurt yourself. Korea: Make it so easy that you have to be stupid to hurt yourself. Russia: The fuck this thing has steps!?!
If someone is so dumb that he needs extra instructions just to eat (for example, if the person cannot recognize sugar or tries to dissolve jam in water), then this person is not fit for the army.
The person person who is in charge of designing the russian MRE: "Okay how should we design this MRE?" Some random designer: "Let’s put a bunch of random shit in it and hope that the soldiers know what to do, also let’s put it in a box and put the box I a bag."
@@thecorneroftheinternet4656 In fact, everything is explained on these boxes,. Russian word “Сахар” is “Sugar” in English, «Соль» - «salt», and the tasty thing in a large box actually was porridge. Russian soldiers are not stupid and they don’t need an instruction about how to warm food up
America and Russia: Here rations soldier, packed with artificial nutrients so you may fight! Korea : I packed you some rice Young man, here's some oil and off you go
As a hurricane survivor, who has eaten mre’s before, the best is legitimately the Mexican food one(this was 2017) because that was the only one that had flavor, it wasn’t even near spicy, just flavor. I cried.
sorry the mexican beef and beans or the southwest one all kinda just suck the best one is the chicken chunks or the cheese tortellini and the meatball one may be the best speaking from experience of course we ate them everyday in training
American-filipino that speaks Russian here- the amount of times ive spoken to someone in russian and they look at me thinking i should be speaking indian(or other languages of this color) is a large amount. That white power you added WAS sugar, the package said "САХАР", which translates to sugar. You did add the apple paste to your water too. You opened the паштет, which is pronounced pashtyet, it translates to patê, or liver paste, it seems like the MRE included plov (плов) or kasha (каша). A good trick is to spread the pashtet on the crackers. The apple jam can be taken straight or on crackers too.
when you put the meal pouch into the heater bag and add water, shake it or turn it a bit so that the heater inside side is saturated, the heating chemicals are water activated.
As a Russian, this video made me wheeze 😭 And that “drink mix” says sugar on it. The apple sauce is also not a drink mix 😭. The Russian food say oatmeal 😍
Well only if it touched the smoke. Since the fire tablet contains the chemicals. Thats why it should be enclosed but i don't think it was the case for him since he is in a big space. In enclosed space it would be a problem since the smoke will go right in the food .
Gifted programs in elementary school are bullshit. Kids already suck as-is, a kid with an ego is even worse. I'll assert to the day I die that elementary school gifted programs fucked me for life.
What she read is (at least i think) the solid fuel tablet dangers, food itself shouldn't be bad(if it's not overdue, can't really judge the appearence of stuff)

That's wat I was saying the whole video.
3 years late but
The American one contains a single meal, so in the field, in the absence of a kitchen, and the availability of an MRE, you can end up with 3 of those packs a day with 24 menus.
Wow, thats interesting. Thanks alot!
very informative, thanks

Also you're supposed to open the lid but not remove it completely as it contains the heat and evenly cooks it, he was also right about mixing it, you have to mix it up while it cooks or it will burn to the bottom of the can.
except for that kasha means porridge and tushonka is stewed meat.
