Amazing tutorial. Goes right into how to do it, and is slow enough to understand but fast enough to keep me focused. Everything still works as of 2022!
Hi I'm just starting to use Gimp, and I just want to let you know that your tutorial is super helpful! I learned so many new functionalities from this and you explained them perfectly. Thank you so much!!! 7 years later it's still helping people
Hello, young lady! This particular video of yours is still positively influencing the careers of artists out here all these years later. In my perspective, you explained the tutorial in a nicely paced and comprehensive fashion. Before I found this video, I avoided doing digital art for a good while, but now, after over 15 years of creating art traditionally only, I'm finally ready to regularly create with digital art softwares, like GIMP. So, what I'm fundamentally trying to say, is thank you VERY much for this digital art tutorial. I hope these words can contribute to you creating more content like this on the internet : )
Hi!! You're welcome, I'm glad the video was helpful! In order for the dark lines to stay on top, you need the layer which you isolated it on (I called mines "Lining" in the video) to be listed ABOVE the rest of your other layers in your layers window- is that how yours is? If not, select the layer which ONLY HAS LINING and bring it to the top of your list by clicking the green arrows.
I know I'm about 6-7 years late, but I sometimes use this method too! Also, thanks for demonstrating the burn and dodge tool! I personally mostly use the path tool the shape out the area that I want to color. To me, it's a bit faster than this one. But hey, any kind of car will get you to the same destination at the end anyway. 😊😊😊
This is a much simpler video than the rest I’ve seen , I may need to watch this afew times , I have a drawing I want to cut out and fill with the colour gold
I had a couple of problems while following your instructions. First, I had a very hard time aligning the new layer perfectly with the inked layer every single time I wanted to color something, which made the process take forever. Second, I ended up painting over my inking, which I did not want to do because I'd have to redo all the lines. Fortunately there are ways around it. It's not actually necessary to create a new layer for each colored area, just use a layer for colors and paint inside the lasso selection. Also, I didn't realize I had to set the color layer mode to "multiply" rather than "normal" to keep the color from overlaying the inked lines.
oh my light ! you are a goddess ! thank you for this , i was looking for a way to improve my coloring and add shadows and highlits to my drawings thank you !!!
.....im trying to customise my own thing by using a picture of it already and just changing the colour but I'm struggling to make it look clean and finding it difficult to use....
HELP!! I have no color options t start painting. I can select which tool I want to use: paintbrush, pencil, ect. but it will not give me an option to choose any colors. What am I doing wrong?
Great tutorial. I wish you would make more videos for producing art with GIMP, but also G'IMC and Inkscape. Background music was just right and your voice makes listening enjoyable. I've tried to watch tutorial where the voice was a computer reading a script. Those were the absolute worst! Great work - keep them coming, please!
To clarify into a step by step process: 1. Select the area you wish to color, with any of the selection tools. 2. Create a new layer from the selection with the paste command. 3. The new layer moves to the (0,0) point of your template, so you have to move it to the correct position. 4. Select a color and paint the area. 5. Use the dodge and burn tools to brighten or darken an area respectively.
Why do you copy to the new layer and try to move it to the right place? After you selected the area, simply add new layer and put color inside selection (with paint bucket or brush) - it'll be in the raght place from the start ;)
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I followed every step but I can;t seem to get the moving lines to stop. I also want to paint it with the laso tool but when i finish doing it the whole section i covered got biger..
Ok so I selected the lines by color. One, it makes a double line, line it selected the inside and outside of the line. Second it's not solid, it's the moving pixels. Then when I use the rectangle tool the lines disappear. Help?
hello, i did the copy/paste as a new layer for the lining but my lining turned into white, there was no black outline anymore, just white (there are small black parts that looks pixelated), how do i fix this?
you can use a pdf scanner app on your phone which will white out the white areas. as to if or how you would then access it with gimp i dont know youre the expert lol.
quick fix! make sure that your free select tool is in the correct mode: "replace the current selection." For some reason Gimp defaulted to another mode.
Thanks, very useful tutorial! Strange thing that happened to me when seeing ur drawing at first: "the guy looks Korean"... Then looks at description.. "Oh" xP
Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH’S LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On YAHUSHA HAMASHYACH. HE Died and Rose Again On The Third Day So that you can be forgiven of your sins!
I suggest you pirate Adobe because gimp is absolutely horrible. I hate to say it because I love open source stuff but gimp is laughably bad after using it for just a little while.
The best GIMP Tutorial I've seen so far. And believe me, I've watched a lot of them, trying to understand Gimp.
Is GIMP free software
Same
Amazing tutorial. Goes right into how to do it, and is slow enough to understand but fast enough to keep me focused. Everything still works as of 2022!
6 years ago and this still works! thank you!

yeah but we need to get there on time. Wish you posted videos on how to.

I tried this but it goes over the lining :( I dont understand, none of this worked for me
I don't see many gimp tout where they use the dodge and burn tools. Good tip.
A little bit "basic" but for beginners it's a wonderful tutorial. good job
I'm still so confused

youngthinker1 makes no sense
@@andrewgarfield9898 yeah same man
@@CzechStephen what doesnt make sense? I get it but the fucking program what let me color or see the pasted image
thank you! this helped me make a business card for my computer class!!!

You don't even need to add a new layer. Select it and then color inside.
WSG Fun Channel yea seems she did it to be bit too complicated
@WSG Fun Channel: adding a new layer for the colours is a good thing, you never know, what you might do with it later
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I followed every step but I can;t seem to get the moving lines to stop. I also want to paint it with the laso tool but when i finish doing it the whole section i covered got biger..
T_T it took so long to reply, I know... I'm sorry to say that I'm actually not sure how that happened :/
It's okay,i just figured ot a few days ago what i did wrong so it's all good now. Thanks
:)
Oh okay, cool :D Wish I coulda helped, but I'm glad that it worked out for you!
+Alondra Kitty how did you figure this out? i'm having the same problem!!
you just have to use the rectangle select tool and do this 04:30
Ok so I selected the lines by color. One, it makes a double line, line it selected the inside and outside of the line. Second it's not solid, it's the moving pixels. Then when I use the rectangle tool the lines disappear. Help?

Are you sure you're on the top most layer, did the lining layer show up at the top?
i`'m kinda confused because there is problem with the pixels.
how do i make a favorites for colors i want to use on a drawing?
Wow your tutorial sounds so easy! VERY helpful and very thorough explanation! I'm gonna try this for myself- thank you :)
The layers option wont appear for me. :/
Click windows and dockable dialogs then layers i followed the steps and nothing ..
When you began coloring the dark lines would stay on top, how did you do that?
what if you want to edit a picture that has color , just to enhance it or something?
That's a nice trick for coloring
you should do more tutorials. This was very well presented
I do agree with you 100%. Kudos to Yomipanda21

Thank you for taking your time, this was helpful and gave me some ideas!
thank you soooo much for this!! this video by far is the only one that made sense to me lol
This without, or with a digital tablet?

do you know what the new alternative is to “select by color” because i’m not seeing it on gimp rn?
@@cindiepierre8325 hmm not sure if an update has changed it, but still seeing the 3 circles icon on mine, moving threshold && such

Thank you very much, I saved the instructions! 💙
Really helpful.
Thanks, very useful tutorial! Strange thing that happened to me when seeing ur drawing at first: "the guy looks Korean"... Then looks at description.. "Oh" xP
In a way you didn't really need to do all of that. Just use path tool, create a new layer and draw over it .-.
path tool can take a longer time depending on the drawing
Thanks so much--very helpful!
Thank youuu
oh thank you so much.you really helped me.
trash every time i do it the thing is outside of my screen
Really helpful tutorial. :)
