Yes. It's primarily because Shashi had a low point just because of party line. Panda maintained an upper hand in overall debate and is very articulate but in terms of pure articulation and eloquence, even in this debate, Shashi is on a different level. Just see the tone and flow how they match up with the sentiments of his words.
I agree with verbal skills but not factual details. He is a good twister of words to suit his argument, though they sound factual they are not good for the country as a whole but makes him look like a intellectual. No wonder he has been dodging the bullet on his court case for a long time. You must listen to the journalist friend Nalini Singh of his then wife Sunanda Pushkar.

Let me start by saying that I think Mr Tharoor should probably be heading the Congress party. But, I was amazed by how bias the host was. She very smartly at the start of the interview introduces Jay as representing the BJP (1.10) and somehow Mr Tharoor is an apolitical individual(3.08). Give me a break. She then further starts to defend Mr Tharoor when Mr Jay makes a direct comment about Mr Tharoor (7.30 and 7:49). She was clear in whom she was supporting and far from being fair.
How tf is this lady a good moderator? She was literally arguing against Shashi Tharoor and making opposition points

i belong to odisha and i can safely say that he was getting a lot popular in the state and many of us thought he's next in line to be CM after naveen patnaik. but for some reason there was dispute between them and naveen expelled him.

I know Jay Panda personally.. He is a brilliant man with a brilliant mind... He was in BJD party in Odisha back then but now he became Vice President of BJP.. After he became Vice President of BJP my uncle got the seat for BJP state president of Odisha.. He is very humble person.. But one thing I must say most of the state based political parties are corrupted then the big central level parties...

A perfect debate! And it was expected since both the representatives are more learned and polished. But above that it was about anchor who matched their shrewdness and most importantly she was UNBIASED unlike her other collegues.

@Firehorse rb Sambit Patra wouldn't be able to change his style regardless of whether the person with the opposing view is a 12 year old child, an 80 year old senior, a soft spoken ambassador, a parrot, a computer or a stone. He is a natural spin-doctor who on a stormy day under a heavy deluge of rain will argue that that it is not raining. It is like he can't open his mouth without lying.

The reason Rahul Gandhi and Soniaji do not speak in the Lok Sabha the debate of Art 370 and 35A is that neither of them knows how to speak. A few months back Rahul was shouting all over India that he just needs 15 minutes in parliament to speak while the fact is that then as well as now he is not capable of speaking in parliament. The only reason these two people are even in politics is due to their being in Nehru dynasty and this is the reason for the current situation of Congress party, which is now leaderless and before this with an incompetent leader.

Veer Ganesh Thank you for pointing that out! I’m used to seeing Barkha Dutt, Nidhi Rajdhan, Ravish Kumar having very clear bias against the government or individual politicians. I still believe she is far better than the anchors I mentioned.

Sometimes things are executed in national interest in a manner which might appear harsh. In a longer term this is a major paradigm policy shift of India. Give the present government all the support.

I don't see that the self-proclaimed "integral" people (Tharoor, mainly) are more integral than the rest of us - on the other hand, J&K is indeed an integral part of India

This is the way a debate should progress. Both politicians and the anchor were polite, humble. Both politicians paid good attention to each other's point and tried to be discreet about there reply. There was no shouting no bad mouthing about any previous politician, no shifting of blame by Jay Panda ( which a fresh thing by BJP), Tharoor accepting that situation in kashmir was never good even under their rule, Tharoor even accepting article 370 was obstructing in many ways, esp that different flag, 6 year plan. This debate just shows how a debate should be because in the end we all want best for India. Jay Panda you are the first BJP politician, listening to whom was not about feeding to irrational jingoistic hyper climate. You did extremely well, esp your humbleness and politeness & that "lets not reexamine history, what nehru did, what sardar patel did" just increased the respect of your argument!! . Tharoor was well under his limits as a cultured and rational man & that "lack of accomodating different opinion is what BJP lack" was bang to the point, loved the way you walked that tight rope of aggreeing and dis agreeing. It was more like a debate between two well spoken, well read friends who don't agree with each other, amazing! The sharing of thoughts, without any drama is DEBATE. All the noise channels needs to learn how to conduct a debate. Debate like this one.
Audience matters. Most of us like to see heated debates because it gives a sense that the topic is very sensitive and that the implications will be huge. If those news channels were polite and formal in their approach most of us will not buy that news and change the channel. Just by the number of views of this video, given the historic moment, its pretty clear for what i said.

@Shabbir Hossain This is actually a laughable argument. Have you forgotten that those Muslim rulers came as invaders from Afghanistan and Mongolia. Or Have you forgotten about the atrocities that the Pakistani army committed on it's own citizens of East Pakistan, or who came to the aid of Bangladesh for its liberation, for that matter? The status of minorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan is well known( in India it is deteriorating, but in India they have their representation and constitutional rights- something not found in Bangladesh or Pakistan). So your arguments are all devoid of facts.
Less than 10% Kashmiris want to secede from India. For the overwhelming number of Kashmiris, joining Pakistan is infinitely worse than a situation where J&K is under perpetual curfew under an Indian administration. Its good that the Government has abrogated Article 370 keeping the interest of the majority of Kashmiris uppermost in mind.
Minorities around country feeling victimised is really unfortunate.... This is not targeted towards community/demography.....this is fundamental step to fix the boundary. @UCgraMWPG36oZ1yKfPFnj6EQ i understand ur point...but unfortunately boundry has been fixed excluding kashmir..for kashmiris that part is IOK now, we lost them forever..having just military there doesnt help..370 was never a hinderance, it was an assurance provided by GOI which has not been honoured and they feel cheated..let curfew go off and very soon u will see the reality..then 'all is well' in kashmir staged shoots propogated by paid media will be exposed..i hope i am proved wrong, but i know i will not go wrong on this..u can not forcefully enter someones home telling them we know what is good for u and u dont know.

I think the way 370 has been revoked , is the best possible way to do it . All have been trying since ages but no result , YES this was well planned because using 370 to revoke 370 is the best legal procedure which was followed .
I think we should give couple of more years on this , we have already seen Pakistan doing great jobs in PoK , they are living well below poverty line and they don’t have half the rights which A normal Pakistan citizen have . Actually Pakistan did this to PoK in 1970 , and no one took it to anywhere , because India knew that this is going to be in benefit of PoK but it went absolutely adverse .
I heared lately , that Mukesh Ambani is committed to invest few billions in Kashmir for its development , I must say that everyone will be in sync on this that People will grow if they have money rolling in their pockets which is the sign of a growing economy , and economy will grow by investment only . I don’t have any doubt that INdian industrialist will pour atleast USD 100 billion ( tentative ) to improve Kashmir’s economy which will directly add on to INdian Economy and to their own Wealth. USD 100 Billion for 12.5 million people only , if I get the calculation than a share of more than 5.5 lac INR per citizen , it means a lot . JAY excellent job! Let's look at the involuntary response from Shashi Taroor, nodding his head in agreement with JAY. Why do you want to go in person to see if J&K is returning to normal, when all you did during your era was just joining hands with separatists.
Shashi is a great champion of democracy and fabulous in debate. But I also feel he's a paper-tiger who talks a lot but I haven't seen him do anything extraordinary on a macro scale except belt out amazing speeches in the domestic and international arena.
I understand completely why you would feel that way with the way how matters are run/analyzed when it comes to the centre. It's mostly got to do with Congress not being a stable/decent opposition and him being it's spokesperson. Most often that situation makes it look like it's all talk and no action. However, he has done well as a representative of Thiruvananthapuram, the constituency of which he is the MP for three consecutive terms. Especially during the current crisis of Covid19

One of the most awesome and dignified debate. Hats off to Mr. Jay Panda for the way he answered the questions of Mr. Tharoor. Mr. Tharoor appeared to be naive when he compared Indira Gandhi's imposition of emergency to the lock down presently in the valley. And also Mr. Tharoor at some places was not agreeing to Mr. Panda simply because his masters (Tharoor's) may take offence.On the whole Mr. Jay Panda certainly is a notch higher than Mr. Tharoor. All the other debaters must watch this and learn a few good lessons.
