There has been several instances of politicians debating on rewriting the history as taught in schools and colleges in order to what is argued as make important corrections needed for bringing out the truth. What is the use of reading the history, which may contain the story of few kings and freedom fighters? As J Krishnamurti puts it: if one can read the history of mankind, which is himself, then the whole lot may be understood about oneself.
So British put him in jail cuz they knew Veer Savarkar can gather the masses and hence stopping him from fighting and Congress and it's stooges say where did he fight for freedom. Why wasn't he with Gandhi(who btw didn't do anything to get India free, British just gave it to us in 1947, just like they did to Srilanka in 1948, and they didn't even have a Gandhi). The fact that Veer Savarkar was jailed and all of Gandhi's camp were allowed to live a great life.
Then why didn't they keep Netaji in jail? You are simply parroting the lines of people who contributed nothing to freedom struggle and now want to take the credit for it. Gandhi's greatest achievement wasn't the freedom of the nation, but its unification. But for Gandhi, India might have become half a dozen countries after independence.
@@josephjames859 Netaji ran away before he could be jailed. He had Gandhi's support till he didn't turn towards armed struggle. Also you are taking away Patel's contribution and giving it to Gandhi. Gandhi wasn't even alive to see those 1000 Kingdoms integrating into India. Btw I am not saying Savarkar played a role in our freedom, he wasn't allowed to as he was constantly in solitary confinement.

Netaji left India in 1941. In fact, he had been arrested 11 times between 1921 and 1941, but they released him each time though they were aware of his extremist views and his ability to instigate the masses against them.

You are simplifying history. Patel couldn't have put all those apples in the basket without the support of his PM, Nehru. In fact they worked in tandem like Modi and Amit. Don't forget that Goa and Puducherry were annexed after Patel's death. I am not talking about that though.
Patel was able to do his job so smoothly because Gandhi had brought about an emotional integration among Indians. He made them feel they belonged to one country. Otherwise he would have never succeeded in his mission. Just take the case of the Travancore kingdom in South Keralam. It was one of three, along with Kashmir and Hyderabad, that stubbornly refused to join the Indian Union. It then had a powerful Diwan, Sir C P Ramaswamy Iyer who wouldn't have yielded to Patel so easily, but he was left with no choice because Gandhi had visited Keralam and cast his spell over the people. They turned against the Diwan who had no choice but to flee. Puducherry and Goa were addded to the union in 1961. Though the people there had imbibed the French and Portuguese culture, they wanted to be a part of India, leaving no choice to France and Portugal. It is wrong to give credit to any single individual for the awakening of Nationalism, even Gandhi, but he eventually became the most important catalyst. I have personally listened to old timers in Kerala recalling his name with so much reverence and affection. I am sure if Gandhi had sent his disciples to Sri Lanka and personally visited the land, it would have been part of India Today. Culturally they are very much a part of India. You are probably too young to have personally experienced the kind of influence Gandhiji wielded over the whole of India. We haven't had a leader like him before nor will we ever have. As Einstein remarked, it would be difficult for future generations to believe that such a man walked the earth in flesh and blood.
True. In fact the British had looted Bharath to its hilt and in fact Bharath, and the rest of their colonies in the Indian Subcontinent, were getting to be pain (negative rate of return). So then they decided to dismember Bharath, gave a piece to the First colonisers (called it ‘Pakistan’) and got the hell out. They also left Bharath intellectually colonised and the indigenous Dharmic culture decimated. Only now young minds like Vikram Sampath, Sanjay Dixit, Sai Deepak, and a few others are picking up bits and pieces of our glorious Dharmic culture, traditions, and history back to life and pride. We are forever indebted to any and all sacrifices they made for us to have a chance at life. Savarkar is one of the most important figures in Indian Independence. The British Administration of the time were wary about him, and knew His potential and capability, hence tried to keep Him in Andaman, away from India, as long as possible. And He was also an outstanding Poets of His times. His work 'Kamala' is one of the best literary pieces in the World. He should have got a Nobel Prize for his Works, which are very sensitive, deep, meaningful and of highest order.

I agree history should not be projected to present and used as filter to look at a certain community but if that community itself idolises a tyrant, hate monger, animalistic, brutal murderer and rapist as a hero and many of such character as protectors and propogators of their faith then we have a serious problem. Mr. Tharoor cleverly steers away the discussion by saying that WE SHOULD FORGET HISTORY AND FOCUS ON FUTURE. And I agree totally totally with him only if everyone is working just towards the betterment of collective future but do we see that? We have a neighbor ( Afghanistan) in 21st century which has turned into an ultra conservative medieval age nation and we have sections of people openly or discreetly celebrating that just because they believe in a particular faith or a book or a system of beliefs. Then Mr. Tharoor I am tempted to project history or project a system of beliefs ( which is actively thriving) to present times because it is causing a lot of unrest and insecurity to my modern thinking mind and the future of my coming generations. Let's forget history. And so let's forget historical and bullshit prescribed laws. How about that? Let's implement UCC because it talks about future. History is of no value if it cannot be supported by written evidence. Alas the roles of Savarkar and Gandhi may have had an influence on Indias freedom struggle but all that can be said that both were graduates of British politics and Gandhi succeeded where Savarkar failed.
Well, Gandhi wasn't in Andaman jail to not succeed in active politics like Savarkar. That Savarkar was in Jail and Gandhi wasn't tells a lot. A lot actually on who was the real hero.

The satyagraha movement of Gandhi won India its freedom . Savarkars ideas caused the death of Mahatma Gandhi. His death was not in vain. India did not have to adopt the revolutionary ideas of Savarkar which has given the birth of the BJP which has unashamedly caused irreparable harm to the Muslim minority. Modi has by his silence encouraged the massacre an damage. I ask quo vadis India. Is there a genocide possible as is being predicted.

I do not know much about savarkar. But how can you compare Nehru to savarkar. Nehru lived in relative comfort in British jail. He wrote ' discovery of india' in jail. Savarkar was allowed no such luxury.
India only commorates only one gandhi-nehru-vadra dynasty as if only this one family got us our independence and all the rest of the freedom fighters contributed next to nothing.

India is a melting pot of all cultures because of the sanatan cultural and civilisational values. When we talk of the greatness of India as a civilisation it is hindu cultural values that are referred to.
Islam and Christianity and any other foreign faiths can exist, grow and was and is being accepted as a part of our traditional diversity. But, their philosophies are not a part of our culture.
Indian culture is hindu culture. All Indians come from these hindu roots. At the same time each one is free to follow any path of their choice for their personal lives. That’s the greatness of sanatan dharma.
As long as Muslims and Christians deny their roots and try to equate their religions with sanatan dharma, they’ll not be in a position to coexist and will lead to constant irritation in society by their irrational equalisation and false equivalence.
Accept the truth and stay happy. It’s so difficult for them because for them one way is right and all others are wrong. Problem is in their basic religious philosophies.
Nationalistic Education and more education, cultural re-rooting of these distorted Indians and civilisational integration with religious diversity is the way for India to become a Vishwa guru..
