What online class are you working on right? Need more help? Leave me a comment and I"ll make a video to help you with any questions or challenges you're experiencing in canvas. Happy teaching!
Hi Ashlee! THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to teach us how to start using Canvas! Our district is going full Canvas LMS, which I love! By any chance do you have any of your course templates in Canvas Commons? I love your layout, LOVE the idea of having a checklist at the end of each lesson/unit...heck, I love it ALL! I think I just hit the jackpot by finding your TH-cam Channel. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing my links with your colleagues! I'm so happy to hear that these videos are helping fellow educators out there. We all need to support each other right now. Let me know if you or any of your colleagues need specific tutorials and I"ll add those to my list!
For Unit # 1 module, how to create the “Previous” and “Next” buttons for students to access. How to make a button, namely “Unit # 1 module,” on the Home page, so that students can directly go to the Unit # 1 module with “Previous” and “Next” buttons? Thank you so much for your help.
Thank you for this video. It is so useful and it has been a great help for me. You are so effective, beautiful, knowledgeable and funny. By the way we do love your new hair color! Thank you for making this so informative.
Glad it was helpful! And thank you for such kind words. I'm glad you're loving the new hair color 😀 I tend to switch it up all the time these days. It's just fun and I will take more fun these days 😆
Hi Ashlee, thanks for you help. I'm in need of remedial, very remedial, guidance in how to start using Canvas. I've never used an online platform before, so even this helpful video is going to fast for me and starting at a level beyond my abilities. Do you offer such hand-holding help?
Hi Terra, I totally understand. No worries! I started making step by step tutorials that break down each element by video and explain in detail, give examples, options, explanations, taking slower steps, etc. There are on my youtube channel and I've also created a playlist Canvas Online Tutorials on my channel that you can follow through each video. I've ordered it in steps that will start from beginning to end of creating a course. I add to it every day as I'm working on completing the steps. I hope these help! Let me know if I can help in any other way.
If you are referring to the opening music in the video played underneath my voice, then it's music from the editing program I use called Filmora9. It's part of their royalty free music you can use when editing in their program. I"m so sorry I don't remember the title of the song or the artist's name. My apologies!
Thank you for your tutorial video. I teach 3rd grade math and will be using Canvas with my students for the next little while. What did you use to create your tutorial? I really like seeing you as the instructor on screen while you interact with the program and feel this could help ease my families into our online learning environment.
Yes, I agree the pic in pic is wonderful for students and in your case families. I use it for all my videos and lectures for students so they get to see my screen with slides, pic, videos etc and then my face and voice is right there for them like it (almost) is face to face in class. I use Wondershare Filmora9. I bought the lifetime plan last year and it has been worth every penny. I use it for everything. Fast, easy and tons of options including recording pic in pic like this one. I think it's $70 for the lifetime plan, you download the program and then it updates regularly with new features etc, but they also just posted an educator discount. Might be worth checking on. You could also use quicktime if you have that on your computer. I'll try to do a video tutorial that explains these options as well in the future. HOpe this helps!
Can you show how to manually add grades? For work they already turned in during our f2f for the previous 5 weeks! I've got the assignment built, enabled grading, but cant fill the cells manually... ugh!
Sorry for the delay! Let me do a video on grading tomorrow and add this in. You should be able to go into the gradebook and input the grades manually though. I know this is all crazy still going f2f to online so fast right?! How are you doing did you figure it out already?
HI. I'm a hyphenated Actor, as well. I also teach K-12 P.E./ Health and middle school & high school Theatre arts. This year, our school is going to a hybrid format, face to face and online. Basically, some parents didn't want their students in class so they opted for the online option as well as the entire school will have one day a week that'll be online for everyone. Teachers will be live streaming, but since I'm teaching 4 different subjects, I thought it best to make most of it online so that everyone gets the same info and just cover a few things face to face. I saw how you do a face to face, here, but was wondering if you had any tips for creating a hybrid class. Thanks for you videos!
I think it's wonderful that you are taking advantage of keeping much of the content online so everyone has access to the same info no matter how they (or really the parents) are opting to learn. Very smart and super helpful to the students. Makes it much easier for you as well so you aren't covering the same content in every class in multiple ways. It will probably save you so much time! I really focus on the time that I do spend in video conferencing/streaming with students to engage and discuss or have group activities that can be done virtually to create community. Use the LMS for the content, assisgnments, exams, quiz, videos, etc and then use the face to face time to discuss the content from that week. Give them a prompt or a topic, ask questions and allow them time to talk to not just you but to each other. Have them offer feedback on their thoughts, analysis, response to the work you are teaching them. Make it fun too. Find ways to keep it light so they can enjoy the time together and have a space to create commuity and look forward to seeing their friends in this virtual world.
@@VirtualTeachingPro You just gave a great idea to have the kids who are remote interact with the Face 2 Face kids in class during our live/ remote days! Now let's see if I can get a projector so that my live kids can see my remote kids and have conversations! Thanks, again.
Hiya, loved your Canvas playlist and very clear and helpful. I would like to share with my tutors who are new to the platform a video or two that are ideally 15-20 minutes that summarises what every beginner tutor who is using Canvas for the first need to know in terms of adding materials, communicating with their students and setting them assignments. If there are two or three videos you have made that you recommend the most would be amazing. Any short tutorials for the student or the parent using it would be great too.. also quick question can you add Canvas as an extension or embedded Into your own website? Thank you very much again xx
Hi there! This video th-cam.com/video/iDEwW5aj3JI/w-d-xo.html is a good overview for new canvas users. I start out by saying it's for musical theatre/theatre teachers but it's still great for anyone. Or I would send them this playlist link and have the start at the bottom of the series which begins with settings, homepage and modules tutorial videos. Hope this helps! th-cam.com/play/PLit_70db88TTVKUlrn-xdwO02QtVN5JzP.html
Can I start a homepage and creating modules/assignments if I do not have a course assigned to me yet? For example, I am still awaiting what courses I will be teaching, but I would like to start on my homepage and post content... hope this makes sense. Thanks !
Hi there. You do need to have access to a canvas module to start creating a course. If you don't have any classes assigned to you yet I would highly suggest asking your admin to allow you access to a practice course that you could start building your course in before it's assigned to you. Some schools allow this and then some don't but it really doesn't hurt to ask. Some schools have diff options depending upon who is their DE person. I would reach out to your schools admin or DE staff or faculty and just see what they could possibly do to help. Then you could copy and import that content into your class once it is assigned to you. Otherwise, if your school doesn't have any option of allowing you a blank shell to work with then you might have to wait until the class is assigned to you and you have access to Canvas. Hope this helps a little!
Vox Fox when I teach performance courses or private lessons online then yes I interact with them in real time using Zoom. Zoom is wonderful and most schools provide it for free to faculty especially right now with everything going online. It’s like FaceTime or Skype but you can conference in up to like 300 people. You just sent a link to your students and tell them what time to “arrive” and then you can have a face to face yet online class in real time. Sometimes there is a slight delay but it is minimal in my experience. I’ll do a video on this exact type of situation this weekend and post. Hope this helps!

Regarding how to edit how much time a student may need, you can just blur the content and maybe consider sharing how to details in future videos
Thanks for your insight

Hi Ashley! What do you recommend for selling Canvas courses, if anything?
I do not recommend selling Canvas courses. You're free to email me if you want to talk more abou9t this.
Can you start from scratch to design course?

The loud background music is extremely distracting and a huge mistake. In headphones it is incredibly loud and drowns out the content of the video.

TO MUCH YAPPING.
you should talk less and explain more.
