I wish the modern Miata came in exciting colours like that yellow right from the factory.

Someone at the local Miata group had his ND painted pink and it looks sick!
If I had the money for such a new car in such dull colors, I would definitely get the paint or maybe a wrap done

Apart from a Porsche 911 i can't think of another car than the Miata that has evolved over the years and gets better with each variant.
    Really tastefully modified too...

Cayman, Boxster, Corvette, Golf R, Audi RS3, Civic Type R and Ford Mustang don't exist apparently. I'd put the Camaro in the mix but that one is sadly discontinued.
The Miata barely "evolves", the NB had slightly more power and different headlights, the NC got more drivable and added comfort. The ND is the only generation I'd consider a serious improvement, and even that didn't last very long. If they came with 200+ hp stock maybe they'd still be impressive today but they've been pretty much the same since 2018.
I can see why people would like this idea of "staying the same" but they should step up their game. We live in a time where minivans can smoke them. Even sporty SUVs exist now that can go around rather tight corners. Their lightweight philosophy won't save them in the long run.

You’ve missed the point completely then. A Tesla Plaid is faster than basically anything. An X5 M can keep up with super cars around a track. The speed wars are over so now it’s time for fun and engaging. Go buy an electric jelly bean SUV bc that seems to fit your need for speed.

6 year owner of a daily drive in 4 season weather. Exactly the same but Artic White with the Brembo / BBS package. When the snow flies the winter tires let more of the great chassis shine thru. Really surprising how well engineered everything is in the car. Only thing is I added a active axle back exhaust system that has a butterfly valve from Flying Miata that keeps it from waking the neighbors until my foot goes down on the throttle. Fun car !

      >$6,000 not including installation and questionable strain on the weak ND1 transmission. I'm sure its fun but would really love to experience the SC on an ND2 since its motor has a proper OEM racecar treatment allowing more potential in the top end with its significantly higher redline.

Well, a side from the power, it'd be nice to have a little bit more leg room and headroom when the top is closed. That would make the car so much more feasible for tall people. And really this is all you need for a sportscar. I hope the wizards at Mazda are taking notes because I'd love to own one.
