    The 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF was one of the best cars I have ever driven and now I have the new 2019 MX-5 GT! This car is packing the updated engine with 181hp and 155lb/ft with a few other noticeable upgrades to make this the best Miata ever!
    Please like, comment and share this video with others, it would be greatly appreciated!

    I have just now gone where no sports car driver should go... back to the dealership and look at the new models... Yeah, I traded up from my 2017, to a new 2019 MX-5.... All it took was one test drive to feel the difference in the handling and power of the new MX-5 over all the other years. You notice the added HP right away. It's definitely something you can immediately feel. Then the difference in the steering. It's a lot lighter and almost has the old hydraulic power steering feeling to it now, but getting back to the added HP. It is so noticeable between my 2017, it's almost like stepping from a 4 cylinder to a 6 cylinder motor and without the difference in the weight of the engines. The dealer allowed me the privilege of taking a 2019 MX-5 fast-back home with me until mine comes in on Wednesday of this coming week. They have to switch mufflers when they receive my new one. I've had the same muffler, now to be on the third vehicle in the last 4 years. It's a Power Pulse from Racing Beat. I love the sound that much. I have also noticed the easier shifting, whether shifting or down shifting, it's a hell of a lot easier matching rpms on the downshifts.

    I have enjoyed watching and listening to someone that actually enjoys driving a real life sportscar. I'm sure some of the negative comments are from people that aren't really sportscar enthusiasts. You absolutely have to be that type person to get total enjoyment out of one of these type vehicles, also you have to be a driver that enjoys just getting out and driving for, sometimes hours to get the full effect of this motor. With the drop top, you're actually getting two cars in one and I mean two cars in one. Driving in the winter, you will still enjoy the drive, but when the warm weather comes along, damn! It's a whole new feeling when you're out there driving along.

      TheDriveGuyde I know it’s not similar but what’s the driving experience like when you compare the MX-5 to a mustang convertible?

    • @maxlandireviews
      @maxlandireviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, there’s similar cars but with very different missions. The mustang is definitely more removed as a driving experience but it easier to live with. The mazda feels more refined with the interior materials but the mustang has more advanced tech.
      As the cars are similar price but substantially different. If I’m buying a sports car for the fun-to-drive factor, it’s the MX-5 hands down

    Just ordered a 2020 MX-5 earlier this week. This will be my first Miata, and I'm really looking forward to getting it. Dealership said it probably won't be here until late April or early May, but since this is just going to be a fun, fair-weather car, and not a daily driver, that's probably just about when I'd start thinking about driving it. Doesn't make the wait any easier, though!

    I’m four-time Miata owner, a motorhead with a 2019 MX-5 Sport, the entry level model.
    Be aware of a few things:
    - The Sport model (in the USA) is a bargain. For the thousands you save on the Club, you can buy superior aftermarket suspension and tires
    - If you are 6’ 4” your eyes are going to be looking directly at the windshield surroun - this car is too small for you. Same with people 190 lb or over. You literally will not be able to get into the car.
    The RF is for people who cruise the city streets on not summer nights, enjoying being seen. This is not a true convertible, it is a targa top with big blind spots are both rear quarters, top open or closed. On the highway when the targa top is open, the wind buffeting is unacceptable. With the top closed, it is only 2 DB quieter inside than the roadster.
    In the roadster, wearing earbuds with noise cancellation enables you to take phone calls when the top is down, and at highway speeds, with voices clear on both ends.
    - The Sport is lavishly equipped for an entry-level model. While most manufacturers stick cheap four-season tires on their entry level cars, the sport comes with high-performance tires, and indication of this company’s integrity.
    - I wish Mazda would made available an entry-level MX-5 at an even lower price point. Ditch the power assist on windows, steering, and brakes. It is better without. Also, the sound system is useless, as is the digital display, so ditch them. But add the limited-slip diff, currently not included with the Sport. Stay with the Sport’s 16” skinny wheels - they offer better traction than the 17” wheels on the Club and all the spec racers use 16” tires. But install super high performance tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS. This car would weigh 2000 lb and sell for $26k.

    Hey thanks for this. I did want more though! Like, what is the engine like now, how it feels etc. My NC is not as smooth up the top at the 1.6 in the NA and that makes a big difference. I don't really want to turbo it, I am just thinking about rebuilding a spare engine with lighter pistons and crank and some head and breathing help so it revs cleanly and urgently. The other option of course is to just get one of these when I can afford/justify it. Could you comment on how the engine behaves in this new version? Cheers John

    My Man! I just bought a 2019 MX-5 as of yesterday. A few days ago I drove the 2019, got back in my 2017 and it felt like I was driving a 1962 VW 40 hp bug. I almost couldn't sleep that night. I figured, hell, I'm 74 years old, if I don't do what I want to do now, for get it all!!! I went for the GT model w/manual trans.. As of yesterday I've added a little over 300 miles on it so far. I will transfer my Racingbeat Power Pulse muffler as soon as I can get my grandson's attention. I've had that muffler since my 2016 MX-5 and it sounds damned good. Good enough to keep.

      I'm 73 and had a great time club racing British minibeasties in the 60's (Spridgets and 3000's). Have been driving everyman's cars for the last 30 years. My choice? Between a truck (to tow my Triumph Tiger to the western states for 5000 mile rides), or get something which really has no redeeming features. Other than being an absolute blast to drive. I intend to make this little beast tow the bike on a single-bike trailer out west. That makes the fun factor ease into the realm of practicality. Salud!

      In September of this year I put my Jaguar XJR out to pasture. What to replace it with? There’s a vast array of inexpensive, reliable and practical compacts out there - among them driver's cars like the Mazda 3.
      I've been a motorhead since childhood and now am pushing 70 years of age. Who knows? My next car could be my last. So with that in mind I said to hell with practicality and bought a 2019 MX-5 Sport, the roadster with manual transmission. In my fourth month of ownership I know I did the right thing. This car will not let me get old! I do calisthenics to get into it and more to get out. And driving the thing requires full-time engagement. But what wonderful engagement it is! From the featherweight clutch and shifter to the responsive steering and incredibly refined engine, this has to be the finest base-model sports car ever built. I’m glad to see that other guys my age feel the same way. We’ve lived through the golden age of automobiles, but not even my Dad's 1968 Alfa Duetto Spider 1600 could compare with what's in my garage tonight.

      Carlos Brigett-So you noticed a big change with the engine going from the 17 to the 19? I have a 2017 myself currently and my local dealer only has 1 2020 in stock and it’s an automatic, so I have yet to drive the 181HP and am curious if it’s really that much better

    • @aperson5062
      @aperson5062 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jameswillard1 I had a 2018 GT that I just traded for a 2021 GT. For me the biggest improvement is the 2021 GT manual comes with the Bilstein's, shock strut tower and limited slip diff. The ND1 old GT didn't have the Bilstein dampers and had an open diff. The engine upgrade is also an improvement. Between 2k and 5k rpm is it pretty much the same. At 6k in the old car, you could tell you were at the top of the power band and time to shift. At 6k in the new car it is still climbing rev fast. It just does have a bit more of a rev happy feel. The only "problem" is if you are revving it out to redline, now 2nd gear hits 60 MPH or so, so you really can't rev it out as often. However, it is the Bilstein suspension I notice in every drive as being the biggest change for me.

    • @jameswillard1
      @jameswillard1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aperson5062 yes I’ve also gone from ND1 to ND2 since commenting here. The new engine is smoother and much more free revving but I liked the exhaust note on the ND1 as well as its low end torque which was nicer for around town driving. I also have the Bilsteins now and the car is still too soft, it’s not as night and day as I hoped. The best parts about ND2 are the rear view camera and telescoping steering column

    I would urge anyone thinking of buying a secondhand , or new for that matter, MX5 to get it properly undersealed. I owned an NC for six years until it 'died' of terminal rust. The rear suspension was particularly bad The metal was in an advanced stage of rot and had the consistency of weetabix to the touch. The car was so bad that I gave it away to a guy who was looking for a "project." Best of luck to him!
    Having bought a new 1.5 ND as a replacement, I have it booked in for undersealing at a specialist as all that there is betwixt salt laden roads (in winter) and the metal is just the merest whiff of paint.
    I live in the north of Scotland which has some of the (arguably) best driving roads in the world. My daughter lives in Fort Worth, and we went on a visit to see her a couple of years ago. Having always wanted to drive a Mustang, I hired a convertible version but was bitterly disappointed by it. It was fine in a straight line, but it felt like I was driving a barge after being used to driving my MX5!

      Hi,
      I've just dashed out in the pouring rain, armed with a magnet to check which panels are aluminium, and which are steel. The floorpan, doors and rear quarter panels are steel. The rest are either aluminium or plastic. As I am in my dotage, and this will probably be the last car I purchase, I would like to see it outlast me, and not the other way round. I daresay i wouldn't bother with underseal if I lived in sunny Arizona ( where one never sees a dirty car!) but as I stay in the north of Scotland, and just a few hundred yards from the sea.@@deasystems

The '16 MX-5, I had the cloth seats redone in leather w/modifications done to the driver's seat + racing-beat power pulse muffler. When I started thinking about buying a manual trans I asked some dealer's if I could have the seats and muffler switched from the old MX-5 to the new one, if I were to buy one. Not a problem and they did just that when I bought the 2017. Now I have the best of what I was really after, a real 100% roadster as I did back in the '60's with my MGB's.. '64 and '66.

      However, the penalty will be exacted, and you will pay TWICE. You pay a premium when you BUY the automatic, and the automatic will REDUCE the resale value when you sell it. Used Miatas are much higher in demand with the manual - especially the 6 speed - than the ones with the auto, with the corresponding price difference between the two.
