Yes, I did. And loved it! I cosplayed as Skyward Sword Zelda for Halloween with my boyfriend this year (he was Link). Ghirahim is my favorite video game character of all time. He is really an underrated character. For so many, he’s a villain we love to hate. I wish Skyward Sword got the praise it deserved. I don’t play games for the gameplay, I play them for the story, and Skyward Sword delivered heavily. And the music! The music was amazing! Skyward Sword is mostly known for having the two worst bosses in the series, but in reality, it has the two best too. I absolutely love Skyward Sword and was ecstatic when I saw this video. Keep up the amazing work, Bandit! We love you!

However this time he's in his prime and isn't a couple thousand years old, explaining why he's tougher and fights differently. At the end of the fight he wouldn't die, he can't because you kill him in the future, but you do get him off the ship somehow. They could even have him say something like "I never thought to see you again" when you fight him the "first" time and kill him as a miniboss.

This description of evil stemming from negative emotions of one's past, sounds allot like Wind Waker's Ganondorf, who speaks of a similar sense in the end of the game. I forget what was his actual words, but he seemed to be feeling a great feeling of loss of what happened when the goddesses made the decision to flood the world, since their fated hero, Link, was completely removed from the timeline after Ocarina of Time. It's technically all Princess Zelda's fault why the "Adult Timeline" lacked the actual Link who had reincarnated in times of Hyrule's need time and time again. And because of that, so many lives were lost because of the goddesses flooding Hyrule. The only reason we have a Link in the Adult Timeline at all after Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass, is because the goddesses saw great potential in the Link from Wind Waker, and used his spirit as a substitute for the actual hero's spirit who originated in Skyward Sword. Wind Waker Link was not a reincarnation of Skyward Sword Link, he was merely an ordinary kid who just happened to have the same name of the hero of legend that always came in Hyrule hour of need of a hero, and just happened to become someone to save Hyrule after he needed to rescue his sister. And speaking of Link having siblings, you know how no other Zelda game's incarnation of Link, is seen to have a sibling? I feel like Wind Waker Link's sister Aryll even existing, is proof he's not a reincarnation of the fated hero Link, as literally no other Link to this date is known to have any siblings except Wind Waker Link.

I think it makes perfect sense for Demise to be the dark (perhaps even Lorulean) equivalent to Hylia for a few reasons.
    1. Hylia is all but confirmed to be the Goddess of Time, whereas Demise is referred to as "the one who conquered time itself".
    2. Considering the Golden Goddesses also crafted the metaphysical laws of reality, there would need to be a deity or some manifestation of the concept of evil or darkness. On the surface, it might fall in line with Judeo-Christian concepts of the devil, but it might actually be inspired by the concept of 'heavenly/divine evil spirits' that seek to contradict and upend the order of things as dictated by the kami in Shinto mythology. And we know the Zelda series has drawn inspiration from both (more the latter than the former since it IS a Japanese game franchise).
And 3. Thematically speaking, the notion that Demise fulfilled his own prophecy aligns with the story of his main successor: Ganondorf. By times of both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess in the timeline, Ganondorf shows that he's privy to the machinations of the gods, and carries out his goal accordingly. In the Adult Timeline, he explicitly blames the gods for destroying Hyrule as a response to his escape from the void, and only seeks to make them answer his call to resurrect the kingdom under his control. In the Child Timeline, he credits the gods for choosing him to be a wielder of power, leading him to believe he's the rightful ruler of light and shadow. Furthermore, he alludes to the idea of a neverending cycle in the expanded version of his dying monologue (which is retroactively confirmed with Demise's curse).

    • @Kahadi
      @Kahadi ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some problems with your theory:
      1. Hylia isn't confirmed to be the Goddess of Time. Why would the title only be mentioned in one game, and never directly given to her? We know there's other goddesses, mostly shown for Gerudo worship like in the Light Temple in OoT, so why would one game mentioning a Goddess of Time while other games mention Hylia specifically mean that Hylia is the Goddess of Time? If that was the case, I think it would have been confirmed by now, especially in BotW or the MM remake.
      2. Even if she is the Goddess of Time, calling Demise "the one that conquered time" isn't quite the same thing as a title. That's like saying Arachne was the Goddess of Weaving just because she was the best weaver, and that sort of proclamation got her turned into a spider (indirectly, but still). Being "the one that conquered time" doesn't make him a god.
      3. If he's a god, he's one stupid god. It is stated that no god or goddess can use the power of the Triforce, thus why Hylia had to stop being a goddess for her plan, so her descendant could use the Triforce to stop Demise. If Demise was a god, that not only means he's too stupid to realize he can't even use the Triforce, but also that Hylia isn't smart enough to realize his plan was doomed from the start, that he couldn't even use it. Besides, "the one that conquered time" could also be literal, if you do assume Hylia is the Goddess of Time, since he did effectively defeat her, as he got sealed away, but she sacrificed herself to do so.
      4. Demise is the King of Demons. Why would they give him that title if he was a god instead?
      5. Of course Ganondorf would mention the gods in those situations. They are not unknown beings in that world. The story of the goddesses is well known, including then making the Triforce, and the existence of the Triforce is well known, or was at one point when Ganondorf first appeared (the war prior to OoT). When gods and goddesses are known to exist, why wouldn't he blame them for the harsh conditions the Gerudo live in, especially when the people that lived better are quite literally named after a Goddess, and are known as her chosen people. People blame God for stuff like that in the real world, and there's no undeniable evidence of His existence like the Triforce. Same with him being chosen by the gods because he has the Triforce of Power. It is literally an artifact made by the Golden Goddesses, at one point known by everyone to exist and everyone at least knowing the legends of it and it's association with them. So when he has a piece of an artifact made by the Golden Goddesses, a piece that directly represents one of them, why would he not consider himself chosen by the gods? "Oh hey, I have a piece of ultimate power that has granted me incredible power and protected my life, made by the goddesses themselves. What a coincidence." It would be common sense.
      6. As for the cycle he mentions, you don't think there's legends of what happened that he may have heard about? Or that maybe he didn't mean it like that, but specifically referring to the fact that he was stopped by the Hero of Time, wielder of the Triforce of Courage, then again after transforming thanks to Princess Zelda, wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom, only to now be facing people with the same names and wielding the same pieces once again? Or maybe, having the Triforce of Power and being an incarnation of Denise's hatred, is it not possible that Demise, whom was sealed and not killed, may have found a way to talk to him?
All of this becomes even worse if you think he's her Lorulean equivalent (by name alone that doesn't work. It's Hyrule because it's Hylia's chosen people, so wouldn't Lorule be Lolia's chosen people?). Her equivalent? No. Just a power hungry demon.

@@Kahadi you bringing up God and whether he exists or not is pretty useless to your argument. It honestly distracts more then it adds. Secondly, you would be right about no undeniable evidence, but let me remind you evolution has thousands of pieces of minor evidence that can be seen as supporting other things on its own, it's still a theory, so even when something is considered unknown or known, it rarely is. Especially when reason can't prove something like was once thought and empirical evidence to prove something that is usually seen as beyond the scope is study is seen, such as trying to test for an afterlife and saying you didint find it and so it must not exist but in reality you cant test it but that dosent mean its not real, we couldnt do tests of antimatter or black holes but we still believed it existed.
On to the actual argument though, demons being gods is actually common in polytheism. In the Buddhism schools on Japan, the king of sixth Heaven, a god by all accounts, is seen as a demon and associated by missionaries at the time with the devil and evil, even obunaga made the association. Raijin and Fujin are both gods and oni, a form of demon. Heck, runaway gods fighting other gods as a from of rebellion is a major part of Greek mythology.
On other issues, I have none. Your arguments work and you seem to shut down the ide aof him being a god.

Demise is a very tricky part of the lore to try and explain. I can see and understand why people would say he could be from lorule, but personally i just cant see how or why that would be the case. Lorule had its own triforce, and it wasnt demise that destroyed it but hilda's family. So if he's from the start of the lorulean timeline, it wouldnt make sense for him to go after the hyrulean triforce since he had his own (which he apparently just leaves behind?). On the other hand though, if he's from after they destroyed their triforce, i cant see how a god-like demon would originate in lorule, he's clearly not the lorule hero since that'd be ravio, and also he's a god level demon king! From everything i can see, it just wouldnt make logical sense for him to come from lorule so i would probably dismiss the inverted triforce as "i just wanna be opposite to hylia", but they were working on albw at the same time as SS... Very confusing
As for where he came from, if we dismiss lorule as an option then i can actually answer that! There is actually another realm mentioned throughout the zelda series called the "dark realm". Now this ISNT the same as the dark world (as that's just a corrupted sacred realm). The dark realm is the origin of all demons, its the place you visit in spirit tracks and it kinda looks like an endless black ocean with a black hole for a sun. It'd actually be more fitting to rename it the demon realm instead. It'd make WAY more sense to say demise is like the hylia of the demon realm and thats where he came from
Now i still havnt figured out if the demon realm is supposed to be another layer on the main realm (like the sacred realm), or if its a separate realm altogether like lorule is to hyrule. Ie i cant figure out if lorule would have its own demon realm, or if all demons from all universes would come from the same demon realm. Though thinking about it, the fact demise invades through a crack suggests it is separate like lorule. Infact i actually have another theory to add onto this, you see the only other time the dark realm is mentioned is during the oracle games, its where twinrova summoned onox and veran from. So if it is its own separate realm, then it'd be logical to say it has its own perhaps dark triforce. And i like to think thats the real origin of twinrova's dark rites ritual. So the demons could have the triforce pieces of destruction, sorrow and despair
Ohh and as for ghirahim, i've got another very interesting theory on him as i believe i may have found where he went after SS. Further on in the timeline you learn about how ganon gets his signature trident of power from inside a large pyramid. A trident thats all black with a red gem, that some lines claim has an evil spirit inside it, and zelda herself calls it "the sign of the ancient demon reborn". I believe that after SS and his master was gone, ghirahim transformed into the trident of power and went dormant until his master's curse kicked in and ganon claimed him

I think that Demise's drive to destroy Hylia and her descendants comes from what WW Ganondorf said: coveting what she and her descendants had (I know that he mentioned the wind, but I cand totally see that as an analogy instead of the wind itself): happiness, joy, peace, abundance, and so on.

Some more information about Demise and Ghirahim:
In the Japanese version Ghirahim calls himself the current demon tribe chieftain instead of Demon lord, demon tribe chief is one of Demise's titles so Ghirahim pretty much took over his Master's job during his absence.
Demise's hatred is the curse of the demon tribe.
He has a hatred towards the gods' tribe(members of this tribe can't use the Triforce and some of it's members are guardian deities, Hylia and the Golden goddesses, this explains why certain godlike beings can use the Triforce because they aren't members of the Gods' tribe).
His curse is not about him getting reincarnated in the future("I will rise again" is something the localization added, "this will happen again" or "this will be repeated" or" I shall repeat it" are what he says in Japanese, while Demise bears a physical resemblance to Ganondorf there isn't anything in the text that implies that he is a literal reincarnation of Demise) and it's a bit more metaphorical: the wording of Demise's final words suggests that the curse existed long before his defeat, Demise explains that there will be people in the future who embody his hatred and grudge(the hatred is reincarnated but Demise has no influence or control over the "reincarnations" because he got sealed/sealed and decayed within the Master sword(Impa dies peacefully in the present after fullfilling her duty which could imply that Demise is fully dead)), they are incarnations, spiritual successors of Demise, they aren't born as incarnations but they become incarnations through their actions, feelings and desires as the Demise's hate is also the curse of the demon tribe) and that those who possess the soul of the hero and the blood of the goddess are bound to the curse(most likely due to their roles as protectors, because of Link, Hylia and Zelda's actions against Demise and the demon tribe they caused themselves and their successors to be bound to the curse. Demise himself doesn't seem to have cast a literal magical spell on them and the curse is rather on the demon tribe itself(the battle against the demon tribe will go on forever), Ganondorf in Wind waker was aware of a cycle between him, Link and Zelda and wanted to end it however the desire to end the cycle was also present in Ghirahim so it's only natural that evil want to end it because evil doesn't want to keep fighting obstacles between it and world domination or world destruction depending on the evil entity's state of mind). The curse and the hatred aren't sentient either despite what some people believe.

    • @slopernafti902
      @slopernafti902 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Some of this is not true. The Japanese version states that he's an absolute being and that he's overcome/conquered time, too. It isn't just the localisation; that's directly from the Japanese.
And you state that his hatred doesn't reincarnate... this is also false. Both Japanese and English explicitly stated that his hatred and malice reincarnate. That's certainly _not_ poetic. The demon tribe's curse is the cycle of reincarnation that Demise directly references:
_It is born anew in a cycle with no end._
_it draws an endless cycle of death and rebirth._

This translation has a lot of unnecessary wording:
      時を越え絶対的な存在としてあり続けている 魔の根源です
As a totally overwhelming existence which has overcome Time itself, it continues to be the origin of "Evil"...
""Conquering time" is just a poetic way to say he ruled over time in the sense that he’s there since time immemorial. But people took it too literally"
      -Rinkuto
I've updated my comment with a clarification that it's not literal reincarnations of Demise's and the demon tribe's hatred. Yes the hatred is reincarnated but not literally reincarnated in the sense that they were reincarnations upon their birth or that Demise has influence or control over them.

@@carljohansson3512 I'm fluent in Japanese and I can tell you that the second translation is more accurate than the first. That first translation ignores a lot of necessary wording. A quote/interpretation from a TH-camr isn't satisfactory evidence, btw. 越え translates to transcending//conquering/exceeding/overcoming time itself. That doesn't really indicate being "timeless".
Also, in all interpretations of the concept of reincarnation, the entity is born as a reincarnation. Zelda borrows heavily from Buddhism. You don't "become" a reincarnation over time in Buddhism.

@@slopernafti902I'm not fully convinced. For context here is the rest of the conversation on the Zelda subreddit's Discord server's Lore and timelines channel that lead to the the new translation(the old one was made by Yamikawa/Sidier or Loruleanhistorian) being used there(if you still have a problem with the new translation I think you'll have to argue in the discord server. If truly are fluent in Japanese maybe you could share your knowledge there):
      (July 2021)
Rinkuto: Someone put verbs that weren’t even there. I don’t even know why time is written with a capital T, as well as why evil is quoted…
X:"timeless and absolute entity" what does that even mean?
Rinkuto:You don’t know what timeless means lol?
      Baro:That he's old as hell.
      X:no, "absolute"
Rinkuto:The only thing related to time in this quote is the expression "Toki o toe", which means "over time, timeless" etc
X:my question was more pertaining to what is meant by "absolute"
Rinkuto:I don’t see where the translators even saw the "it continues to be"
Baro:Rinkuto, do you have some doc where you collect your translations or something?
Rinkuto:Absolute in the sense of all mighty, overwhelming, etc
Rinkuto:No lol (reply to Baro's doc question)
Rinkuto:Sometimes I just translate when needed to fact check. If the localization is good, then I don’t save the translation.
X:is there a better translation for it than absolute? because that word carries other meanings that could lead people to think he exists beyond the rules of regular time
Rinkuto:And JPN is also a complexe language, so translations can vary. I feel like it’s better to translate multiple times one quote.
So I might have had translated one quote, forgot to save it. Then when needed again, I translate it again.
      (End of conversation)
The Zelda series isn't just Buddhist but also Shintoist, in Shintoism Reincarnation functions differently. I think Rinkuto said something about the curse and Asuras and Devas. Demise's death looks more like it would prevent him from reincarnating: He never says he will rise again in Japanese, his residual consciousness is absorbed into the Master sword where it begins to decay, Impa's duty is now to guard the Master sword to ensure that Demise is fully eradicated, in the present Impa dies peacefully after fullfilling her duty. Demise's final words sounds more like he knew that he wouldn't be able to come back from that, Ganondorf in comparison when he shouts his curse upon getting sealed in OOT knows he will be back.

@@carljohansson3512 If you're not fully convinced about what's established canon, directly from the original language with accurate official and fan translations, I don't really know what to say apart from that you're choosing to ignore it and supporting something that you just like to believe, despite it being false XD. The Yamikawa translation only adds 2 unnecessary things: "totally" and speech marks around "evil". Their inclusion is not good criticism. The fact it says he overcame time proves that it's more accurate than the one you reference. If you're still not convinced about that, I don't know what to say 🤣.
The other translation blatantly ignores some words/it's purely based on the translator's interpretation of the JP text instead of being a faithful translation like the official English and the Yamikawa translation. Sometimes, the translator needs to interpret the text, but that isn't the case here.
I never said that Demise reincarnates. I'm saying his *hatred/malice* reincarnates. That's directly stated in literally every version of the game in every language. In addition, reincarnation isn't a thing in Shintoism... at all. It's in Buddhism and Hinduism. Zelda takes the idea of reincarnation directly from Hinduism and Buddhism.
To add on to that, Asuras and Devas are completely irrelevant to this topic of Demise. I don't know why he brought that up.
That translation you reference is too simple and ignores the fact it's saying that he exceeds time or "overcomes/conquers it". The interpretation that it's saying he's "timeless" is not explicitly stated in the Japanese. The translation by LoruleanHistorian and Yamikawa and the official English translation reflect the original Japanese much more accurately.
To summarise, it's obvious that reincarnation is directly implied in every language regardless of the absence of "I will rise again" in the JP. His hatred and malice still reincarnate as he directly says that exact thing. Also he is directly stated to overcome/"conquer" time in the Japanese *and* English. Like... the Japanese term for that is specifically used (越え). There's nothing poetic about that. It literally says that he's conquered time in the sense that he is above it.

Good video, I think I can add some nuance to the end bit. Demise isnt the personification of evil, hes the personification of the injustices inherent in a world abandoned by gods. Fi is the Kingseeker Frampt of the Zelda franchise, shes there to guide Link to Demise, guiding Demise's eternal and justified anger towards Link instead of Hylia. Hylia isnt the personification of good, shes capable of morally gray actions, so logically she must be 'all', and if she's all, then it makes perfect sense for Demise to be 'Nothing'. After all, Ganondorf is often depicted as starting off as a thief or lowlife, who eventually makes his way up to the very top, pursuing royalty. The same way Demise, following this logic, is 'Nothing' pursuing 'All'.
Basically, Hylia is potentially the source for all good and bad things, and is just as much of a villain as she is a good force in the world, and has manipulated Link and Ganondorf into fighting eachother instead of her. After all, in all timelines, regardless of if Ganondorf or Link suceed, neither of them seem to truly win, because the problem still persists. Hylia.

19:53 In the anime Fate, there is a man called Anra Mainyu. He was a normal man until his village decided that they needed someone to blame for all the evils of the world, for if that person could not be named as responsible for all the evil in the world, then they were to blame for their own actions. Thus they took Anra and cursed him. They cursed him to never die of anything but natural causes and carved all the curses and sins in the world upon his flesh. In Fate there is a Holy Grail War that takes place every 60 years. Anra Mainyu was summoned to break the rules in the third. They wanted the cause of all the evil in the world… and got a man woefully underqualified for the job, who hated humans… but loved the WORLD. When Anra was inevitably slain in the war, he was housed inside the Holy Grail, as all spirits summoned to fight were. The Grail was little more than a container for vast amounts of power, but that power was exactly what Anra needed to truely become Anra Mainyu, God of All the Evil in the world… and thus he became what he was cursed to become on that day when Man decided that they could not possibly be responsible, and that HE must be the cause.

@@algar6616 Most of the lore comes from Fate/Hollow Atraxia and Fate/Grand Order, so don’t feel too bad. I’m guessing some combination of the three Stay Night and/or Zero for the ones you’ve watched?

That Anra fellow sounds like a bootleg Jesus Christ. Build your own messiah.

@@literallyunfunny In Fate he kind of is, but the ACTUAL Anra/Angra Mainyu is much closer to a hybrid of the Christian God and Lucifer/Satan. In fact in Fate if the original version of something faces a copy the original will be superior, so if you somehow summoned Jesus and Anra to the same Holy Grail War Anra would get a massive buff to make him on par with Jesus. (Though Anra would still loose bigtime because he’s also the original version of Satan, so he would have a conceptual disadvantage against someone who defeated Satan)

@@evanolsen6925 I saw an older one with the female King Arthur, where the lancer was the first big battle; and then a newer one with Alexander the Great, same female King Arthur, more focus on school life and cleaner animations
Memories a little blurry but it was a fascinating trip! Maybe should look into these other iterations
