Yamaha's new R7 is a serious entry into the twin cylinder full-faired category and Yoshimura has upped the fun factor.
Using the same chassis and engine platform as the current MT-07 was a great foundation for the 2022 Yamaha R7. Yamaha didn't stop there, they also gave the new R7 a more radical heartbeat with a revised ECU and this new machine is one fun motorcycle.
Our R&D team confirmed fitment is the same as the MT-07 however exhaust performance grew nicely with the new ECU settings. Max HP was up 6.2% and max torque was up 6.3%. The new R7 now sounds like a beast by adding the R-77 Race Series Works Finish full system and lost some significant weight 7.7 lbs. to be exact!

Does this require an ECU flash or power commander or will it be fine as is ?

The videos on TH-cam do not do this exhaust justice, it RUMBLES down the street, such a great sound and has a noticeable performance improvement imo, I noticed I am able to pull quicker in the 60+ mph range where as before with the stock exhaust, the bike took some time to build speed in the higher gears. Awesome product

It was already out even before the r7 was introduced. R7 is a faired mt07. They did not touched the engine. They just enhanced the suspension so basically any sc project, akra, yoshi products for mt07 is interchangeable for the r7
@@r.i.p2464 I am aware of the R7 with regards to the MT-07. Still; Yoshimura understands the market and come out with suitable videos and specific products for a 2022 MY bike quicker than the competition.

It's A2 lol, u can't compare R6 with an A2 bike mate. This is absolutely wonderful for an A2!

@@irelax8595 it's not A2 it can be restricted to A2 there's a big difference this bike is just as quick in the real world because it has lots of torque in low rpms while the r6 is pretty gutless all the way up to 9k rpm

Tiered licensing is not applicable here, and, being that this is a new sporty motorcycle from Yamaha released during the same period they discontinued the R6, I think some comparison is in order, if not simply due to timing and styling. But I agree the two bikes are apples and oranges.

Which isn't bad because i actually prefer its sound compared to the cp3 mt09 or the cp4 of the r1.

CP2 & CP4 have the best sounds especially the growl.
Cp4 sounds great but im not much of a high rev kinda guy. I'm a muscle car guy so I enjoy angry growly low bass sound. Cp4 does sound great at low - mid rpms but you're just wasting the bike if you ain't maxing it out and the top end noise of the cp4 is what kills it for me! Just not a fan. Cp2 all the way. I hope they make a 1250cc version for the same chasis.
@@r.i.p2464 FP4 sounds best for bikes with modified exhausts imo, like an f1, cp is less revvhappy and deeper tone,
It's sounds so damn good either way. Glad the options for this are underslung and not some long thing awkwardly sticking out by the swingarm. Nice editing btw.

Damn that's a pretty much perfect parallel twin sound. The RS660 takes the cake but this might be equally good.
Love the high tone shift in the upper RPMs with the R-77 exhaust.

i love the mt-07 TWIN sound aswell. Got the Akrapovic on there. Sounds so AGRESSIVE ! Had e MT-09 Aswell also Akra on it open. They sound so different and sweet in there own way.

If you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that the MT 07 is cheap because everything else around the engine is budget, the frame, suspension, rims, plastics etc. The engine is premium which provides the #1 reliability according to many tests, as it is fun because a lot of R&D has gone into it. So how in the hell is it a budget engine?

Fitted mine on just about a month ago 2 weeks after getting the bike. Sound is absolutely amazing!!

@bengladue5054 No haven't done any tuning to it. I likely will once I start tracking it. Only at 2300 miles and keeping it low until I get a second bike - cruiser.

@bengladue5054 Oh yes quite a bit once it gets warmed up whenever you get off throttle. Not in an annoying way - actually sounds pretty good. Though I hear thats not the best that it happens
@@warren010h that's what I was scared about, I don't want to be annoying with it. But yeah it's hard to say if it's negative impact on your bike or not. My buddy and my step dad say it won't effect the engine, and some TH-camrs say it's not bad but then other TH-camrs say it's bad

Did you find in your testing that the stock ECU was able to handle the extra airflow with a reasonable fuel:air ratio, or would I need to look into a controller? I just took delivery of my R7 today. Great machine that came around 10 years after it could have. Been riding superbike twins for about 20 years, and I've wanted a more modern liter or middle weight twin since about 2011 or so. The R7 is the answer to this neglected segment of affordable supersport twins. Well done. Seriously... Well done Yamaha.

The competitor for this bike will be the Suzuki GSXR 750 imo sounds better. The R7 has nice design
@@jasongc8v not even close to being competitors, the r7 is a 689cc parallel twin making 75ish hp whereas the gsxr is a 750cc inline 4 making 150ish hp, so of course the gixxer sounds better haha
@@tcmx712 of course it is a competitor 689cc yes rounded off to 700cc and called it the R7 they can't call it the R689? cause we'll have laughs and giggles so it's within the same range as the Suzuki GSXR 750 and yes the Suzzie will trample on the lumpen weakly R7

It doesn’t. It sounds closer to a Harley Davidson V-twin mixed with a Ducati L-twin. The R6 is gutless on the street, it’s really just a track bike because it lacks low and midrange torque which would be useful around town.
