She made the right choice. The 300 and 400 aren't aggressive style bikes. They're so smooth and great bikes for everyone, not just beginners. The bike is VERY forgiving. You shouldn't slam the breaks but if she does on this bike she won't get into trouble or flip her over the handlebars because of the ABS. Great bike. I have the 300 and I'm happy. I don't feel a need to get a bigger 600 bike. 300 or 400 is all I would need.

At 54 years old, I'm getting my first bike tomorrow!! On paper, I know how to ride but I don't have ANY experience actually doing it. I can ride a bicycle (LOL) and I've driven many stick-shift cars and trucks so I know the basic mechanics of the whole process. Seems to me that finding (and using) the sweet spot on the clutch is very important. I've watched several of your videos and found them very useful and informative. Now, I'm a subscriber. Thanks!!

It went pretty well, maybe even easier than I expected. For me, it was mostly about getting my timing down with the clutch throttle and gear shifter. I get better every time I take it out.

Sorry for the late reply, time really flies! It sure hasn't felt like five months.
Due to living in Europe, I had to start off on a 125cc motorcycle. I lucked out and got one for super cheap and rode the thing every single day. There were good times, bad times and amazing times but with it I've now got enough skills to move onto a bigger bike! I bought a 2009 Yamaha FZ-6, which is just awaiting insurance before I can go and ride it. It's been quite the journey!

  • @ericviera5120
    @ericviera5120 ปีที่แล้ว +159

Just went through all that 2-3 weeks ago. The main thing the class told me was that I need to practice, particularly tight u-turns. I have a deposit down on a motorcycle that after I have a couple of parts installed, I'll have delivered to me so I don't go on the highway/interstate right away. I'll be practicing in my neighborhood and local park parking lot and then advance to commuting to work once I feel comfortable enough. That Ninja 400 would be a great complimentary bike to the one I have on hold.

I'm having such a blast with my Iron 883. Setup perfectly for me and has perfectly balanced power and is such a raw ride and you can feel everything you're doing. I appreciate that alot more than I thought I would. At the same time it's not rough at all or too buzzy and vibratey it's just right and super enjoyable. I'm alot better than I was when I started a month ago but still have weaknesses I need to practice more on and other skills I wanna really hone. I will be practicing in the parking lot every weekend on my slow speed skills.

      Congratulations !!!
Im at the same point in my life; Im 51. Its one of those Bucket List things i want to do while im still in good shape. I actually really want a Spyder F3, but it i like the 2 wheels and get over my fears during the course, I will probably buy a Honda Shadow Phantom as my first bike.

@@TheTarotCardGuy That phantom looks tremendous. Honestly the can am looks fun too lol, My school had a separate course for them but I never got to try them out. I absolutely was also scared when I started but help from the course and putting in the effort really paid off. Take it easy, do your due diligence, and don't get too discouraged if you make mistakes. Best of luck to you and I hope you make it!

mannn thank you for this!! i’m looking to get a starter bike… and i’m going for the venom x22r max cuz of how it looks and the price for brand new and starter bike and looks like a ninja bike still… i like riding bicycles over driving but of course bike riding for long distance is not a energy saver… and i just work, gym and home. so this will help me learn how to adjust to a motorcycle the minute i get on and learn the basics then the rest is up to my disciplined mindset and enjoy it and not ruin this good moment in my life… those last words you said at the end is what im teaching myself… adapt and improve in my life… i feel like this will help me become a better person to understand more patience and awareness…

I really like the wobble concept when taking off. I just snagged a bike and I have ATV/DIrtbike experience (more on ATV). I spent 10 minutes in my driveway and the rest on the road (Live on a dead end, small town, rode atvs/dirtbikes on road my whole life). So my first time experience might be different and more ballsy then others. Though I plan on getting some practice in a parking lot. Very helpful!

I would love it if these beginner videos explained the difference between a car clutch and a bike clutch…. Coming from a manual car I’m used to getting off the clutch ASAP instead of slipping it to get going like you can on the bike.

You can slip off the clutch ASAP on the bike too, its just not recommended for beginners.

5:56 this was a very expensive lesson for me to learn, and such a simple step. even if it's a brand new bike, give it an extra kick to ensure it's secured before you start to let the bike down.

I am actually going to be taking the msf class in October and the rider's course at the end of October. I didn't know what to expect, and I like that this video was available. Now, I'm not so anxious about what we'll be doing when we actually mount. I just pray they have a small bike for me cause I am short, 5ft. I have sat on honda rebel, and kawasaki Vulcan and those two bikes were the only ones I could comfortably get on and into riding position. I haven't seen any 400's.. maybe I will look around and see if I can touch the ground on that. Thanks for your video.

Thank you for teaching us how to use a motorcycle. I'm looking at getting a Suzuki gsx 250 to learn on but I have no idea how to ride, nor do I have people to teach me. I'm only looking at motorcycles because I'd love to ride, but the gas prices are horrendous nowadays so I'm hoping to get a motorcycle to learn on soon.
This has answered a few of my questions on how to get started to fingers crossed I now have a better time learning when I get there.

Thanks for the vid picking up my first bike this week. But let me get this straight. You can pull the clutch and hit the throttle at the same time? I've been driving stick shift cars and trucks for years and that's a big no no or so I was taught. Why is it different with motorcycles? Does the clutch pull back farther or was I fed a load of horse shit? Not trying to burn out my clutch.
