Mom being a cheater herself doesn't see it as nearly as big a deal. Cheaters have a completely different moral compass which is why once a cheater always a cheater rings so true. They might never cheat again, but their moral compass still allowed them to do it.
It's not like OP did anything evil that harmed her friend and pushed her to attempt. The friend just faced very normal and expected consequences. Besides, she didn't even succeed, so it carries even less weight.

In this case, the cheater was filling her best friends holes. The cheater was technically Josh, but her former best friend is the affair partner. So she was getting her holes filled by Josh, and she didn't even stay with the guy afterwards. Sad.
Story 1: It is not your fault that your former best friend is having a major meltdown by attempting to take her own life because of her own awful choice to sleep with OPs boyfriend at the time who is now her former boyfriend! It was her own selfish choices that led her here! Her former best friend has no one to blame but herself! She threw the 16 year friendship!
