Nice job with the video, sir! I can totally agree with the throttle period. You can tell I have about break my wrist every time I try to ride out of frame in my video! What we collabing on next?
Yeah I agree with that. What I remember most on the mt03 apart from the more upright riding position compared to my Z400 was the throttle was lighter but less responsive and the clutch was heavier.

So stoked to join the club.
This bike is way better than he narcs on. I love it for teaching my kids road safety, and manners. We have been riding together since they were little offroad., but traffic is way more dangerous. This is an excellent "keep you alive" as a young rider bike. They love how it looks, and the fun, without worrying about size or power. Learning traffic manners is totally different from learning to drive a car. This bike is perfect for learning and living.
For beginner bikes (If you want something fast), I recommend comparing the 0-60 times of a motorcycle of your choice to a Toyota Camry TRD if you're looking for a decently fast bike that won't kill you. A Toyota Camry TRD is a sleeper that can do 0-60 in 5.7, which is very fast for sedans, on the borderline of sportscar territory (WRX = 0-60 in 5.5).

So the MT-03 sucks right out of the box...is that the message?! Maybe the MT-03 and the 883 could have a little competition to see which bike sucks more? ....a suck off you say?
MT 03 doesn't *suck* it's just that it could be better. The competition is increasing and now instead of leading the charge it's just an alright option. It's still a good choice for most new riders though.
I was so confused when I saw both videos posted within a minute of each other but a collab makes sence Edit: I can’t spell stop making fun of me I won’t change it
I own this bike and it's really not that slow ,sure you have to be up I. The rev range to get that boost... But it's there. Top of 3rd gear is fast as hell to me
I bought a brand new 2021 MT-03 as my first bike and I agree with a few of his points. Yes, the brakes are garbage. Yes, it’s a bit slow even for a beginner (granted the engine isn’t broken in and feels stiff). Yes, the throttle throw is obnoxiously long, even for a beginner. Are they “bad”? No. Is there room for improvement? Definitely yes. I will say the seat height for a 5’ 11” rider with 32” inseam (me) feels just fine. I don’t feel cramped and it’s nice to feel relaxed at a stop light. I have no real legitimate complaints about the bike. It’s suuuuppppper easy to ride and is very confidence inspiring. I would 100000% recommend this bike to a new rider or someone who wants a light, maneuverable city bike regardless of experience. Long story short, I have zero buyers remorse with this bike. It’s done exactly as advertised.
Yammy, not everyone is your height. Stop saying small bikes are a bad thing. Lots of people, myself included, are under 5'7 and a bike like this is perfect for us.
A 300 cc bike is not a begginer bike. When you ride bigger engine bikes, you feel bike like the MT 03 are slow (I have a MT 07), but it is not. When I had a 150 cc bike, the first time I rode a MT 03, that bike felt very fast even when I had 2 year riding bikes.
Been asked a million times but would this be one of the better 300s just for 20 mile commutes to work on country roads that max out at 55mph and the occasional super short highway run? I'm really looking for a bike that feels ridiculously comfortable to ride around 45-60 mph and can handle corners really well. I'm not going to be taking corners like a madman because I'm timid and I'm a newer rider so I really want a bike that can handle corners with 0 issue whatsoever.
Man and here I thought it was a total coincidence that you guys are uploading at the same time😅... But regardless... This is probably the best day of my life! Two of some of my fav motovloggers talking about the prons & cons of the bike I'm considering the most for entry into
@@Devans1227 Possibly stating the obvious. Manual cars or bikes, it's all about finding the "bite" point of the clutch. The clutch is not a digital switch. So at first you really need to be a bit slow and smooth on releasing the clutch. Even when you've had lots of experience of manuals, get in a different car or on a different bike, and the different clutch can take a little bit of getting used to .
@@Devans1227 So they will teach you everything, but the things I noticed I had to focus on the most was about body positioning, i.e. looking straight not down, and turning your head when turning to make the bike go where you want. Additional learning to control the "friction zone" of the clutch where the clutch starts letting the bike roll is something I really had to spend time to learn as to not stall or to jerk the bike too much.
I only agree with you when it comes with the brakes. I call them spongy, especially the back break. I have the 2019 version of it, and yes I updated the blinkers and the tail. The one bad thing that you did not mention and I found a bit of a nuisance is that there is no after market adjustable front brake lever (at least according to the dealer where I get mine serviced)... Clearly I am a shorty at 5’ 4’’ and while for that size of body I have large hands... I really wish that there was an adjustable lever for the front brake. If I want something that will go faster, I will get out something with a few more CCs. I ride mostly in Switzerland, and this is a country where the police is totally unforgiving about speed limits. Even on the MT-03 it is incredible how often my TomTom chimes to tell me that I am exceeding the speed limit (perhaps one of the best reasons to have a TomTom in Switzerland).
The MT03 was the first bike to blow me away when I saw the 2020 when shopping around for my first bike. Shows how nooby I was for it to get slated here 😅
I have a 2016 mt03, its my first bike so don't have much to compare it to. I chucked on a slip on exhaust and adjustable leavers, apart from that its stock. I like it but I won't be keeping it for long as I would like more power
You can put the throttle from a r6 on this and it will fix it. They also have a break kit for this. There is also a kit to give it more power Plus you can put a cog and full exhaust. It's a 300 not a 400. But alot of people like the feel of the r3 and the mt03 then the ninja 400.
I have the previous gen MT 125 and it is alot less cramped than the newer ones. I'm only 5 foot 11 but when getting on the new MT 125 I feel so uncomfortable.
The MT-03 is more aimed at UK, Euroland A2 licence restrictions. i.e. less than 47 BHP. If I was after an A2 bike in the UK, I'd rather have a Honda CB500F, which with it's 471cc engine has a fair bit more torque, if I was a reasonably well off A2 licence holder, well there's always Yammie's favourite the Triumph Street Triple A2 660cc 47 BHP variant ( better than a CB500F ) that once the rider gets their full A licence can be derestricted to 94 BHP. If I was a beginner rider in the US where you don't have the tiered licences, I'd rather have an SV650. In the UK and Euroland SV650s can be restricted to 47 BHP for A2 licence holders, and they're very good value for what you get. I'd recommend cash strapped UK, Euroland A2 licence holder to get a restricted SV650. There's also so many SV650s about, they're pretty easy to pick up second hand in the UK. As you like to say in the US, there's no replacement for displacement, so the 321 cc Yamaha engine is always going to be a lot more rev-ing and gear changes as compared to CB500F, SV650 or Triumph Street Triple A2 660cc (amongst others). I guess some people like having to rev the nuts of an engine, I had enough of that when I was on a 125cc, it's hard work . No torque, and all that gear changing ! Looks are subjective, I'm really not keen on the MT-03 headlight and transformer looks. Again, I guess some people like this ... (the CB500F , Street Triple and SV650 all look a lot better to me) Comparing the MT-03 with the CB500F, when I last checked , the CB500F had a fair bit better fuel consumption and also a larger tank. So the range on the CB500F was quite a bit better. (Street Triples do drink more gas/petrol, but that triple engine, you'll forgive it for it's thirsty habit) I'll admit that the price and weight of the MT-03 is attractive, but sorry MT-03 lovers, it's just not my cup of tea !
speaking of brake mods, could you guys try and change brake lines to a steel ones? I think it will go nicely with a new pads and improve overall feel of the brakes
My dad just blew his 675r's motor on the track going 130, locked up the back tire, the turn he was going into wasnt very kind to him when it locked up. I dont think he wants another daytona unfourtnately.
As a beginner, you need to teach that all important throttle hand. But what does the MT 03 teach it?,,,,, To open the throttle wide to get some response. Such a very dangerous lesson when you think you are ready for "real" motorcycles, since this action becomes a reflex. Yes, very under powdered bikes can be dangerous in many ways,,,,how about also being able to pull away quickly from a dangerous situation? Can't do it.

Really appreciate the different approach this video took, compared to the other "Things I Hate About X" series. I didn't dislike the previous episodes, but this one felt a lot more objective. I like that you considered other perspectives than your own personal opinion, each "hated" thing was nicely presented with some reasonable justifications for why you dislike that thing, and the open-ended conclusion sentence didn't feel overly harsh, considering in the series you basically roast the bikes (e.g. size, it sucks for you and I to ride, but like you said it could be ideal for smaller riders and it might not be a complaint everyone has). @@Proximity27 Don't get me wrong, the MT03 was in my line up when choosing, and I would have been pretty happy to have one. But the Z400 is more powerful, every extra hp counts once you're used to riding these little bikes and the 3 feels just slightly lacking down low. The torque curve makes the 400 feel nicer off the mark and you don't have to slam limiter in every gear to keep it moving along. Which is fun on the MT03 but when commuting, the extra power down low on the 400 makes things more comfortable, less of a chore. If you're over 5 foot 10 and/or weigh a bit more, the Z400 is more accommodating, but has a slightly more aggressive ergonomics package, personal preference there. I'm not here to advise against the MT03, I say get whatever you like! But if they are a similar price range in your area I'd say take the Z400 and the KTM 390 Duke out for spin and see how you feel on all of them.
@@DenvarShay Hmmmm...Understood and will definitely take that into consideration before making my final decision. Now that I think about it, it's likely that once one has gotten in-sync with their first, they probably will want a little extra room for growth before upgrading to a bigger engine - and based upon your argument, the z400 has just that? You seem fairly accustomed to yours so hopefully u can confirm this? Another issue I'd like to have addressed has to do with long, cross-state, cross-country tour-type riding. In your opinion, how does the z400 perform on those, power and comfort-wise? I'm a six-footer, will probably max out 6.1 or 6.2 at most in the end so another worry I had with the mt-03 is that it seems to be more on the shorter side and taller folk tend to get slightly cramped up which, considering I'm highly interested in long hauls, could prove to be a pain after a couple hundred miles. How's the/your z400 fair in terms of seat height x ground clearance for a taller rider looking to take it on longer rides? Also also, how's the after-market parts availability for the z400? Sorry if I'm asking lots of questions btw😅. Just sounds like it'd be best to ask an owner/previous owner for specifics.. Really appreciate your time and knowledge btw🙇🏾

@@babyvanta It's not about vanity for everyone. Personally I hate the cruiser seating position. It makes me uncomfortable and I don't feel confident like that. I own a cruiser I got from my sister and that bike pushes my thigh out awkwardly and then I have to twist my leg and foot back inwards to actuate the shifter. It's just an ergonomic nightmare.
Had I learned on that bike as planned, I wouldn't have gained confidence and comfort in even half the time. I bought the bike I was most physically comfortable on and I learned very quickly and was able to translate to other bikes easily.
So don't be so aggressive.. not everyone likes cruisers and that's fine. There are plenty of other options out there.

I am a brand new rider, did dirt bike a couple times as a kid, but that's it. I purchased this bike after watching the many videos, and seeing it as a great bike for noobs like me. Thanks Yammie for all the great info on this bike. I am sad there is no MSF here right now due to covid, but I got my permit and friends that are licensed. I get my bike delivered this week.

MT 03 doesn't *suck* it's just that it could be better. The competition is increasing and now instead of leading the charge it's just an alright option. It's still a good choice for most new riders though.

I agree with everything, and yes, as a 5'4 130lbs guy, number 4 is a blessing haha
This was amazingly coordinated 😁
I'm a 5'6'' guy and I was decided on buying this bike. After watching this I'm sure I'll buy it! 😄
VERY INFORMATIONAL THANK YOU SO MUCH 🎉
A 300 cc bike is not a begginer bike. When you ride bigger engine bikes, you feel bike like the MT 03 are slow (I have a MT 07), but it is not. When I had a 150 cc bike, the first time I rode a MT 03, that bike felt very fast even when I had 2 year riding bikes.
Another thing I don't like about the MT 03 is the headlight and it doesnt had analog rpm display anymore.

I’m taking my class in a couple weeks. I also have no experience with motorcycles or manual cars. Any pointers you can give me?
@@Devans1227 Possibly stating the obvious. Manual cars or bikes, it's all about finding the "bite" point of the clutch. The clutch is not a digital switch. So at first you really need to be a bit slow and smooth on releasing the clutch.
Even when you've had lots of experience of manuals, get in a different car or on a different bike, and the different clutch can take a little bit of getting used to .
I forgot to add that slipper / torque assist clutches on bikes are very worthwhile, especially on bikes with a lot of torque.

Can you flat foot at 5'4"? The seat doesn't seem THAT low.
@@jlmcgrot I flat-foot the MT-03 without problems.
My days of big bikes are over the biggest I've owned was a 1990 VFR750
My last & current bike is a mt03
I have owned an R3
(the CB500F , Street Triple and SV650 all look a lot better to me)
Comparing the MT-03 with the CB500F, when I last checked , the CB500F had a fair bit better fuel consumption and also a larger tank. So the range on the CB500F was quite a bit better.
(Street Triples do drink more gas/petrol, but that triple engine, you'll forgive it for it's thirsty habit)
I'll admit that the price and weight of the MT-03 is attractive, but sorry MT-03 lovers, it's just not my cup of tea !
125cc changing gears every ~10km/h when accelerating. 😂 I can relate!
Does the 2021-2022 has slipper clutch? Thanks

As a beginner, you need to teach that all important throttle hand. But what does the MT 03 teach it?,,,,, To open the throttle wide to get some response.
Such a very dangerous lesson when you think you are ready for "real" motorcycles, since this action becomes a reflex.

Currently stuck between buying an MT-03 or financing an MT-07 as my second bike. My heart says 07 but my wallet says 03 please guide me to the light Papa Yam, what do I do😭😭
theres a new 07 coming out in 2021, so the "old" ones like mine (2020 model)could finally drop in price on the used market, so if u wanna wait that would be my recommendation
@@redo1dr Good call honestly, its probably worth sticking it out a little longer, hopefully they'll be willing to make a deal get rid of "old" inventory. If you don't mind me asking what was the OTD price for your 2020? My first bike was a Craigslist Special, this will be my first time using a dealership and the fees seem super misleading. @@Proximity27 Get the Z400 instead
@@DenvarShay Care to enlighten me on the perks the z400 has over the mt-03? Open to new info 🙇🏾
Pretty sure it's a beginner bike so the throttle is probably designed that way on purpose.
