    The way it lifts back up out of the water is mind-boggling. I reckon if you set it to return to home as the failsafe, it would automatically shoot itself back up through the surface as soon as it lost radio signal…or rocket down to the bottom if it was upside down, of course.

    • @georgeashcroft
      @georgeashcroft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know right it’s mad! That’s actually not a bad idea, although I think waterproofing a GPS may have some effect on GPS signal, and also it’d probably lose gps signal in the water too? Maybe one to test!!

    • @TheVeganarchism
      @TheVeganarchism 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve never had reason to test it in real life, but if I’m not mistaken Betaflight GPS Rescue has an initial altitude setting that would cause it to shoot back up vertically before trying to orient towards home - that motion would probably be enough to re-connect to the transmitter so the GPS isn’t critical as long as you still have video.

      @@georgeashcroft barometers don't handle waterproofing (they have a little hole), but if you get a gps without barometer it should work fine.

    So when it's dry, is it a rubbery coating or a more epoxy-like one? I have an aerosol can of MG Chemicals 422(IK I should've gotten liquid not aerosol), and I'm wondering whether or not to use this instead. 5:54 is what's raising the concern; if a craft knife or soldering iron can't get it off the connector, it's a no-go for me.

    • @georgeashcroft
      @georgeashcroft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a rubbery silicone type material, it coul easily come off by peeling or using a craft knife. I just don’t think it’s be easy to save the cable with all the worry free in all the nooks and crannies. But if you have a replacement cable it would be totally fine 👌🏻 This stuff is definitely different from the MG Chem stuff, I have the liquid and that won’t make it fully waterproof IMO, I think it’s because this stuff is thick and creates a full layer of waterproofing it works a treat 💪🏻

    Overkill usage of conformal coating, you dont taking care the heat that need to spread out from the electronics.
    This is a bad idea.
    Much better to use mg chemicals, 2 double tin coats. After each coat check the cover with ultraviolet light and your good to go.
    The pros of this material is the fact you can solder easy without to take it off so its much more practical.

      Hey thanks for your comment man, but this isn’t conformal coat, it’s a silicone based coating, not a polymeric film like conformal coating.
      The heat that comes from drone electronics is only in short 4-5 minutes bursts, and I haven’t had any problems flying in 35degree heat for the last 2 weeks 👊🏼 long term testing for overheating will come. But so far, so good.
      I’ve never seen a product that can make a drone take off from underwater, apart from FPV Worry Free 💪🏻

    Looks like normal conformal coating or worse... just a clear silicone. Is this just a mass purchase no name conformal coating n trying to hock it off as some new stuff? Because thats what it seems like lol
    **Edit**
    Brandon States in his video it is just Silicone. The same stuff you buy at the store, but this says FPV

    Why not solder wires to the pads instead of using plugs? It’s a permanent connection anyways

    Great Video. How about taking the gummies out when applying FPV Worry Free? Don't they stiffen / harden when you leave them on like that?

    • @georgeashcroft
      @georgeashcroft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude 🙏🏼 I left the gummies in while applying the worry free so I made sure I didn’t get any on the inside, can still connect to betaflight/dji if I have to. I think this is pretty much the only thing that’s useful anyway, I left mine in the quad and one fell out while flying anyway 😅 no damage to fc or vista 👍🏼👊🏼

    • @saturn_fpv
      @saturn_fpv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgeashcroft I meant the stack gummies which are supposed to be soft and dampen the vibrations. If you apply FPV Worry Free to them they will stiffen and transport more vibrations to the gyro. Good idea to put screws in I agree, but wouldn't it be even better to take the gummies out completely?

    How about the motors? don't they need to be waterproofed, didn't see any mention of that

    • @georgeashcroft
      @georgeashcroft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, fundamental flaw in the video... i forget not everyone knows brushless motors are already waterproof and they are used on rc boats etc too. Brushless motors have no physical connection between bell and windings, so water cannot short them out.
