Late-comer here. Just so you know, and why: When I apply studs, I fold the prongs _outwards_ Reason? They're less likely to work their way out and fall off. Granted, there won't be a lot of 'falling off' of studs, period. I get it. But folding the prongs outwards just makes them extra secure. Just thought I'd share. =) Wish I'd caught this when you first put the video out. Sorry about my timing. Also, for the 'no poke' effect? I flip the piece I'm working on, 'inside out', and stitch (on the 'wrong' side of the fabric) seam binding / fabric tape over the places where the prongs are. It's something I do by hand, and a little bit extra work, but WOW is it worth it. =) For a large area like you're showing here, I guess a whole fabric patch would do for that.
Distressed old Lucky Brand jean skirt, then studded it exactly like your video. Being a perfectionist, had to stop, undo and redo a few times. First tried to "eyeball" it. Eventually drew lines with ruler and marker on denim. Used an "awl" to poke holes through the thick denim as well as to press the double pronged [3/8 pyramid studs from studs and spikes.com - GOOD quality] studs. Had lots of positive comments. I love it. Can't keep my own hands off it. Thanks so much!
@convers0211 Hey! The studs are in quite securely, I've washed mine a bunch of times and none of them have close to coming off!! I do turn them inside out when I put them in the wash though :) elle xo.
BRILLIANT!!! I am going to buy these studs. Great link! I have lots of clothes where I want to "Metal" them up. I'm a real metalhead/goth (not the dreary goth who wear corsets) and I'm tired of my clothes being so plain. I want to show how much I love extreme metal and goth music! This is a great and cheap way to do this since I have so many boring goth/metal clothes that only have a silver zipper. I do have one question though. How many studs did you use and how many are left in the bag?
@butterflyspirit07 hey! thanks for watching :) none of them have ever poked me!!! I bent the backs right back up inside the stud and haven't had a problem at all!! good luck with your studding elle xo.
If you want to cut corners, and put your holes in your pants for looks, use sandpaper, not a blade. Looks more natural and authentic when you spend a minute and rub a hole in a knee with some 220 grit sandpaper, especially on denim and leathers. Gives a more layered look with the wear and tear that a cut and fray with a blade just wont do.
Very cool. Sitting down though; unless you have buns of steel (lol), did you at least put some sort of padding on the inside? Curious because I've read those things aren't always comfortable.
great tutorial, do you know if the onlinestore you bought the studs on ship to other places, like Norway? :) Because if i buy studs in stores here in Norway, it will cost me like 40 pounds!
well i reccomend using anything studded that you have first like i have one of those studded belts and i just pried them of so that i could use them for my converse hope that helped
what is the difference between 8mm, 6,,. and 10 mm studs. this is my first time buying studs online and i don't know which ones I should get for studding my jeans. what about regular canvas shoes? would these work for them?
I love this! I been studding since I was 11 yrs old and I'm 29 now. I need to get more studs. I use to take them off a belt b cuz they were fallen off there self. 10 for the belt.
the studs like those allwaays fall out simply due to the design of them not being secure, if you pinch the material a certain way one of the metal spikes that are bent back to keep the stud in place will unlock from the material and once one spike is out, the rest generally follow because it's not secure anymore. they're crap, use them some other way because they really don't work
@lovemeghann12 Hey! The studs are very secure when you put them in! I turn mine inside out when I wash them and they definitely aren't going to fall out!! thanks for watching!! elle xo

I don't know if you know, but you can take pumice stones, nail filers and buffers, sandpaper, etc. to roughen up your jeans. :)
