    When I saw TH-cam notification come up on my phone, I thought you were shaving with Hellman's mayo 😂

      Where I live, there is only one mayonnaise - Duke's. Hellman's is a no-no :-)

    I just got and tried out an iKon B1 slant razor for the first time a couple days ago and it's pretty great. I would say that I'm a fan of of their products now.

      I have their slant head (not the B1 model) and it's a great razor, I should get that out for a shave soon!

    I think when you do get to it, you’re really going to like the Gillette Pure cream. I was really surprised, being a regular soap user primarily. Great vid.

      I think you can find this in a lot of supermarkets and drug stores, but yo can of course get it online as well...

    Very nice shaving Michael, good evening

    Well, thanks for taking one for the team, Michael! That cream didn't look like much fun to use. I tried some brushless cream a while ago and while it was effective, it just wasn't the same as a lathering product with a brush.
    Barrister and Mann Reserve Spice sounds really good. I've finished Reserve sets of Cool, Lavender, and almost done with Seville in Reserve. I will need to pick my next scent in Reserve.
    Cheers! -Rob

      The Spice is really good, a lovely warm scent! Finished sets of Reserve?? Wow -- well done!!

      @@mfreedberg I know, right? I've finished a few now. I used use a different soap every day. Now I use one for at least a week at a time. I get to know the soap a lot better that way. The few I've finished are a drop in the bucket compared to my shaving soap hoard. 😁

    Fine effort with this cream Michael! I have had good results with the iKon B-1 head. Definitely no blade chatter; I suppose the tight milling tolerances are a factor. All the best. Zac

      Very well made, and nice clean lines as well -- great razor, just a little too much naked blade feel for me.

    • @block672008
      @block672008 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, it's not machined - its a metal powder sinter so a preety repeatable process in terms of tolerances...anyhow, the sturdyness maybe not fully comparable to a head machined out of solid block of metal - anyhow, cant see a possibility of breaking it...

    Great shave Michael. Ikon was around when I first started and they had a few razors that I wanted back in the day but I'm pretty happy with the razors I have today.

      They were an early "custom" razor vendor making high end razors, and it's nice to see they have continued to survive with the growth of the market and the number of new vendors.

    Hi Michael- Great shave and shave cream/razor reviews, with a well-planned and coordinated nautical theme 🙂; thank you! The brushless cream seemed like it did a nice job; definitely a nice travel option. The Plisson knot was a trailblazer, but I generally seem to prefer a Tuxedo knot, which hits a nice sweet spot for me. I hope you have a great week ahead and best regards, as always!

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plisson was out in front, and now look at the market -- completely crazy!! Tuxedo is ok for me, but not great, but I know it's a clear favorite for many! All the better that we have so many choices today.

    Nice effort with the brush-less cream Michael💈💈 Another sacrifice for your viewers😊 Are you going to give up on B&M, A&E, SV etc., to use this as your go to? Since you won't be needing your Capt. Choice Lather bowl, send it to me😉 I have an Icon OSS handle, but no experience with a complete razor. Good choice using a brush, looked good on camera for aesthetic reasons. Great video and comprehensive review as always👍 Enjoy!

      I have struggled with what to do, and have written to the Dalai Lama and the Pope for advice. "Go with your heart!" they both replied, and so I have determined to continue to use all the artisan soaps at my disposal :-)
      That lather bowl is already in my will (ha ha)...

  • @DeeDeeDanone
    @DeeDeeDanone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You know, I still use my original loccitane Plisson and I'm adamant that it's still the best synthetic brush out there, they simply got it right first time. I'm not a big backbone fan (not needed imo) so for lather generating and face feel it's simply unsurpassed. I have endless amounts of synthetic brushes nowadays and still rate it top. Yeah.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still an excellent performer, but I think I would go for the synthetic horsehair or the SynBad over it -- just personal preference for the face feel!

    Hi Michael. I have two brushless creams(that I did try with a brush and without) and I`m not really a fan. As you said, not much cushion or enjoyable face prep with them. However they do the job. Don`t work to hard. Thank you.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do the job, and not much more, and we have become used to a much higher bar. Not a fan, either, because I like the whole shaving process and this part feels lacking to me, but I have to admit I did get very good results! Next up: Cremo and the Gillette Pure??

    The ikon b1 head looks exactly how I would design it - except I’m not sure what the point is of the recessed diamond underneath the blade - perhaps it is to make the head lighter. A shame that it doesn’t shave as good as some. Regarding that synthetic knot - it looks identical to the knot in my maggard brush. One small thing about that, I occasionally have to comb the knot because the fibers got a tendency to get fuzzy looking /tangled.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never heard that about that knot! Interesting, are you mashing it down or over-splaying it when lathering?
      Not sure about the diamond pattern either, but that head is already so thin that not sure you would notice the weight difference! I do really like the minimalist look of the head.

    • @MrUlski
      @MrUlski 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Freedberg i would say that this knot gets “over splayed/ sad looking” but other synthetics I got doesn’t do this - it might be my fault, but it only happens with this brush - but it is not an issue really - it just need some maintenance

  • @T-R.e.x
    @T-R.e.x 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was expecting the brush to splay more naturally on your face.
    It has nothing to do with the Timberwolf 26mm knot which hits the sweet spot for me.
    PS I must win one of those kits you giveaway. Sound legit.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timberwolf is a great knot, I agree, really does the job.

    Here's an ocean themed thing that I think you might not have anticipated: that "light mint green" color of the handle as you called it could also be considered a seafoam green! 😂

    Thanks for your weekly videos! They're a great eye-opening source for new and old wet-shavers. If limited to a synthetic brush knots, which do you prefer? I'm looking forward to getting the Yaqi 'Mink' brush that you reviewed (thanks to the 11-11 sale), but normally use a RazoRock Monster (with the Plissoft knot) and sometimes the Stirling 2-Band Synthetic (with a Tuxedo knot).

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I go for the ones with a little less "spring" in them, with more consistent splay: the synthetic horsehair from Yaqi (rainbow handle?), the SynBad knots, and the Timberwolf. I also have the 30mm "Monster" from Yaqi (black fibers), which is also a great knot.
      Thank YOU for your comments and info, really appreciate how much you contribute!

    Nice video.
    I always search, fully blade covered razor head. Please name any other "No overhang blade"razor like RazoRock. Maybe this is one of feature of luxury products.
    Thank you. Have a great week 🙏

      Some of the RazoRock razors, the Timeless razors, Wilkinson Sword Classic, the iKon B1, maybe the Standard razor, or the Blackland razors??

    Interesting watching this as some lather's look like someone's been in a custard pie fight, where-as, this is just like a film and no more, but I suppose it's mainly about what it does on the skin surface.

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as long as there is a layer of slickness between your skin and the razor's edge, you can shave -- it's just a matter of how well!

  • @417Keto
    @417Keto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can see the appeal to that razor and I'm wondering you've got a chance to use it with some different soap? Just wondering if a different soap would make the razor feel much difference?

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps a denser lather would help mask the feel of the blade? It's possible, but I think in the end the main difference would be the quality of the shave -- you would still feel the same amount of blade on your skin, it just might not feel so "close" (grin)!

    G'day Michael, Would you recommend the iKon B1 as a daily (every day) shaver?? because of the head looks the same as the Feather AS-D2 razor? can you compare both razor during your next shave before Christmas... Please!

    • @mfreedberg
      @mfreedberg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never shaved with the Feather, but I know it is quite a mild razor -- if you like the feel of the razor blade on your face, then go for the B1, you can absolutely use it as a daily razor. The Feather is also quite expensive, and I think I would go for a Karve razor with an A and B baseplate which will give you very mild shaves.
