    This episode especially I think it good enough to get greenlit to series, and it SHOULD. It should even become canon (Lop is a species that's in the old EU). I HOPE that going forward the Visions seasons are used to "test run" pilot episodes.

    I took the implications of the traditional samurai clan to mean that she had trained in vibrio weapons, and that she had been latently force sensitive the whole time, the telekinesis occurring in a moment of incredibly high stress and intense emotion

    Jaby, just know that the creators of SW: Visions have ideas/plans for continuing some of the storylines of the vignettes We've seen over the week, inc. this one. Apparently, this studio has ideas for where this conflict can go, w/ Lop trying to bring back her Sister, reconstitute her family, and combat The Empire's plans with the planet Tao.

    The narrator is male in Japanese lol. I don't know why, but in English female.
    btw There are some "lost in translation" things (of course, I love every version tho).
    For example, Yasaburo speaks Hiroshima dialect like traditional yakuza. In English version, he is more dandy? I guess. The differences are interesting.

    tbh none of the people fight like they know how to use the lightsaber. the prequel trilogy show u how to use a lightsaber properly. in the sequel trilogy and visions they fight like they would be using a sword but that's because they don't know how to actually use one. anyone can ignite and swing it though

    • @Christopher_TG
      @Christopher_TG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I prefer the sword-play kind of lightsaber dueling. As flashy and pretty as the prequel trilogy's lightsaber fights were, they were so overchoreographed that they didn't feel like fights anymore. They started to feel like dances.

    • @cotacachi12
      @cotacachi12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Christopher_TG yea I mean the sword fighting aspect is cool too but realistically if you were holding a weightless weapon and can feel the force, you would be doing tricks u could never do with a weighted sword. People forget that the weapon is essentially weightless lol

    • @Christopher_TG
      @Christopher_TG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cotacachi12 You can lore-justify it all you want, if the "fight" looks more like Disney on Ice than like an actual battle, the stakes won't be as high. It's part of the reason the Luke-Vader fight is so much more engaging than anything in the prequels.
      Story-telling is about emotions, not logic. If you want your audience to feel like they're watching a fight to the death, it needs to look like a fight to the death. None of the lightsaber duels in the prequels did.

    • @cotacachi12
      @cotacachi12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Christopher_TG but that's the thing it's high scifi fantasy they are fighting with technology that we couldn't comprehend with moves we cannot comprehend. The technique for handling a lightsaber would not and could not be like using a sword. Especially when you can use the force to feel the enemies movement

    • @Christopher_TG
      @Christopher_TG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cotacachi12 Again, trying to logic-splain it doesn't mean anything. Whether or not the "fight" makes sense within the lore doesn't really matter. You can come up with a lore-compliant reason for making a game of Candyland a deadly struggle for survival, doesn't mean it'll be in anyway emotionally engaging with your audience.

    • @anthonyyoutubefan7567
      @anthonyyoutubefan7567 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is that true of The Lepi species? Cause, I agree, that's what Lop's abilities seem to be about...intense emotions bring out her Force abilities. I wonder if her Adopted Father had harbored feelings that she had those abilities within her(?); which made telling her the family story, and offering her the lightsaber of their House, possible.

    Definitely get what Jaby is saying by these series of shorts giving him "blue balls"/wanting more, and I genuinely believe that is the purpose of the Visions series.
    Disney's Star Wars is already looking into creating more non canon content, as well as drawing from the expanded universe, so with Visions they're testing the waters to see which episodes recieve the best reception. In doing so, they can plan which studios they what to team up with to create full series out of, or new series all together.
    Independent animators/program graduates often do this in Japan, by releasing teaser trailers or one shots, to get feedback from anime fans as well as in hopes a big name studio will see their work and fund/hire them for new projects.

    I loved this episode so much I want to see an entire 40 episode anime series about these two characters.
    Lop’s design as well as her character make her easy to fall in love with, and Ocho is fascinating in that you can actually see things from her perspective and almost side with her.

  • @Willy2537
    @Willy2537 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I really like how the aethestics and themes in Lop and Ocho really remind you of the stories that took place during the Meiji Restoration era Japan (which integrated into the Star Wars universe nicely - fitting considering its source origins) - where Japanese people are torn between accepting the rapid modernization and changes brought by westerners and sees it as the only way they can survive in a new world or be wary of the outsiders and remain true to their traditional ways, which is in a way represented through the conflict between Ocho (who is in the former group) and Lop and her father (who belong to the latter group).
    Also, it's no surprise why Ocho feels especially angry and cut her ties with Lop after her father revealed that he made Lop his family heir and even gave the family heirloom (lightsaber) to her: members of influential Asian families take the position of heir very seriously, and usually the oldest child would hold the heir position by default. By passing that over to Lop - who's not even a true family member by blood - is the ultimate insult to someone who's actually related to the family by blood like Ocho. Taking what she perceives as her birthright away, and she may as well be an outsider.

    • @jjstarrprod
      @jjstarrprod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great parallel with the Meiji era ! It definitely makes a lot of sense.
      As for Lop being passed the heirloom sword and Ocho being pissed at it, well, she's the one who cut her hair (ties to her family) first. While doing so, she forfeited her access to the family heritage. She only has herself to blame and is in no position to protest about her father's choice (especially after betraying him, and even gouging his eye).

    • @Willy2537
      @Willy2537 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jjstarrprod Yes, I won't deny that it was Ocho's own fault for getting cut loose from her family heirloom and heir position, but it was a lose-lose situation for her either way. If she doesn't join the Empire, then that Imperial Officer would have taken extreme measues against her family and possibly even the people of Tao to keep them in line, but joining the Empire also goes against everything her family stood for and would allow them to continue taking advantage of the planet's natural resources and cheap labor.
      Ocho took the latter option because in her mind, it would be the most favorable outcome for everyone. She thought it would be the lesser of two evils since even though the Empire is actively bleeding the natural resources of the planet dry, it was still a better choice than being wiped out completely for resisting. In her mind, she thought she was doing her family a favor, so when it's revealed to her that her father gave the family heir position to Lop instead, she took it as a personal betrayal - even though it's actually the other way around.

    Now i got nothing to say about her use of the force xD the dad is sort of uses it so maybe they are both also train in rudimentary force use? There are many people in the star wars universe that are proficient with the force without being jedi or sith trained

    Star Wars Visions is Disney and Lucasfilm getting very desperate. They are looking for anything new that they can make money on but they don't want to give up on SJW political correctness. They need to make money but after the Kennedy trilogy plus Rogue 1 and Solo kept getting worse and worse they are flinging everything against the wall to see what sticks
