  • I decided to fish a couple of runs on the river after recent rains in Melbourne had freshened the stream up beautifully and the fishing was really good! I tried to mix up the camera angles slightly but it didn't come off so sadly you're stuck with first person mainly... sorry.

    Nymphing is crazy productive but when that first trout hit your dry fly at 2.02 my heart jumped. Dry fly is great fun.... Great video again

    "It's awkward this tree overhanging here because it's right in the spot where you want to get your flies" also me every 30 seconds flying fishing

    Nice work again. I like that you're not a big editor of video. Seeing the time taken to work a spot is really interesting and informative. I'm off for a week of perfect streams soon, so will try to keep this info at the forefront. :-)

    Thanks Tom, great vid, nice to see how you pick the water apart with the 2 different techniques. :)

    Super nice video. Didn't realise 'fun' had become an adjective, but ok (apologies from a grammar geek).

    Excellent fishing and advice. I've been wanting to go to the Steavenson River for two years-but have been stymied. Maybe I can go in the next few weeks. I'm from Sydney. It''s perfect for a mediocre angler like me-and so beautiful. :-)

    fantastic video again Tom. And Tom, they are never too long! I have no idea how you don't spook all the fish near you, as you seem to be on top of them? Maybe I step too heavy

      Haha thanks man 😊
      Haha hopefully I don’t always, but depending on water depth, pace and general water type you have to approach it from different angles and distance. Sometimes you can get super close

    I would love to come along meet ya and watch you fish man. I'd be happy to try be a camera man for ya as I'd learn so much just being near ya on the water! Love the video as always man!

    Another great video Tom. Thanks. Do you think the flush of rain brought the fish out?

      Thanks Stephen, yes to a degree, they are always there but just eat more confidently with less effort for the angler after rain mid summer

    I've seen you use a dry fly on the line with a nymph before, and in those cases you never died off the dry. Was it edited out, or does it not get soaked further up the line? Thanks - an aspiring fisher

    • @tomjarmanfishing3208
      @tomjarmanfishing3208  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So typically if a fish eats and is hooked on a dry fly you (I) will need to dry it. If you fish a dry and a nymph and the fish only eats the nymph, you won’t need to dry it. So that is probably the reason, I hope that helps. Cheers, Tom

    Great video Tom, just wondering is there a reason you fish a 9 foot 3 weight on a smallish stream like that, over a shorter 3 weight? Is it for line control/extra reach, etc ? Cheers

  • @glennpayne704
    @glennpayne704 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do those Cortland SYLK lines suit shorter rods? I currently use a 3# 7'6" rod for rivers and creeks.

    • @tomjarmanfishing3208
      @tomjarmanfishing3208  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they do, they were actually originally designed for cane rods. I use it in some other videos on a 7’6 rod on the creeks. It’s just a really good all round dry fly line

    I'm really liking your videos mate. They're really good. I've been fly fishing in Perth, Western Aus for a few years now and must admit that our fishery is not all that good due to our summer heat. Fish are stocked and have a limited season and its open to bait fisherman and lures so it is hard. However, when the trout are released into our dams or lakes they spread out in the lakes and tributaries. Do you have any advise for fishing these kind of lakes and where you would start? What flies you would use if you were fishing these kind of lakes and what you would look for for prospecting where the fish would be e.g. dam wall, drop offs, weedy banks. I'm mostly land based but have a small electric motor for fishing the lakes. Would appreciate your advise or any tips you may have

    • @tomjarmanfishing3208
      @tomjarmanfishing3208  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a really hard question to answer as there are so many answers and options. I actually have a lake article coming out in the next issue of fly life magazine (the end of this month) where I explain core lake techniques and approaches and where when and why you would apply them. That will answer you questions here better than I could now haha. Hope that helps. Cheers, Tom

      @@tomjarmanfishing3208 Thanks for your reply mate. Yeah I know, I felt bad asking you those questions, but couldn't help myself as I was planning a trip with my wife and wanted to have a plan of attack rather than fishing blindly hehe. I'm sorry to put you on the spot like that!! Since asking you, I've watched a lot more of your videos and noticed that you answer a lot of those concepts in your videos already - so thank you. I'll buy that issue of Flylife and have a good read, I'm sure!! Keep up the awesome work. P.S I've tied up some of your recommended fly patterns and can't wait to use them around September when our waters will hopefully be stocked

    I know that there is easy road access to the Steam]venson and similar ric-vers. Its just me and small rods-is it OK for me to fish along the roads and nearby?

      @@tomjarmanfishing3208 Het, thanks for that super fast reply! I really appreciate it. I was blocked the first tie with a dental problem, then back to work Then the virus struck. Hopefully I can make it soon. It's delightful water and perfect for me. I'm just a quiet older angler and very unobtrusive. :-)

    Hey mate ..is there a reason y your leader is so long ..

    • @tomjarmanfishing3208
      @tomjarmanfishing3208  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, so I want it to be long so the leader lands with plenty of slack, that way I have slack to work with if I need to mend. But essentially it makes the drift better and longer. Hope that helps :)
