The issue with making a rule is this... If you go back to the Darlington Xfinity race - Larson and Creed, were in a battle for the lead, Noah was right there in 3rd. Noah ended up with the win, but they ALL scraped the wall on the last lap going for it, and it turned out to be one of the best finishes I've seen in a long time. Would they DQ them all??? Impossible,
@@sundaxe10 Absolutely- Creed rode the wall the entire time, and Noah hit the wall, then advanced his position on Creed. it wasn't just a "darlington stripe" Also in the podcast one of their proposed rules was not being able to use the wall to gain a position.
But he didn't just scrape the wall . He intentionally geared up and hit the wall . It was a great move but that will end up in a crash 99% of the time and hurt or kill the driver and other drivers too

Hi America. I am a Dane - As in from Europe. I watch F1 - and frankly I instantly change the channel when NASCAR is on. Every time I have tried to watch it, someone has been pushed off the track by someone OBVIOUSLY doing it deliberately with 0 consequence - or it has been a boooorrrriiinnnggg races going round and round with nothing happening. Well... I - for the last 2 hours have been watching NASCAR and entire videos relating to what Ross did here. I love it! Actual guts and skill combined with luck to make a moment in your sport which rivals the all time best moments of motorsports... 1: Don't make a rule about this - before you make a rule which black flags people for pushing other people off the track and into the wall! 2: This is not an embarrassment - this is bloody brilliant! 3: Stop talking over each other guys! Being rude does not = being right!
Amazing how many people who work in the sport dont actually enjoy the sport. I keep hearing that this is unsafe? Really? Where is the data for that? "What if the gate came open?" Well, why aren't we worried about that when someone blows a tire and hits that gate at speed at a 30-degree angle? That impact is way more than 5G's. That wall experienced less force with Ross's move than a normal corner accident, by far. Check the video, the safer barrier didnt even displace itself. As Larry Mac said, if this is too unsafe then we better cancel Daytona & Talladega where they are 30 cars deep at 190 when they start the pile up.
although it was awesome but we all know the successfull chances of that happening again are very slim I can appreciate what he did it took a few seconds of IDGAF humanity rides on the shoulders of people who took a chance..the sport needed this it really did good video yall!
Reminded me of my days slot car racing on big tracks. If you were running your wing car racer on the outside lane, you literally had it wide open and ran the wall.
All of us have watched the video bunches, watching it in real time I thought that a camera had malfunctioned. You all that work in this sport were surprised by this move -- as for it becoming the new Norm I will remain on the side of caution. The reason I say that is there are way too many variables in a choice like Ross made and in his case this one worked out, the next one maybe not. I will say that one of the reasons I believe he made the move was -- He has been one of the few driver's who did not get caught up in how unsafe this car is -- he stated numerous times that other driver's did not speak for him -- therefore he felt safe enough to send it. Geez what a moment all of us witnessed.
I think that NASCAR will wait to make a rule for a couple of reasons. 1. How much the viewership of the last race increases. 2. Might not need it because after they make the changes to the cars it might just be impossible to do.
I quit watching Nascar 15 years ago. First time I’ve paid ANY attention to it was this. If they make a rule because of this I’ll know I made the right call to quit watching.
I was shocked I hadn't been watching NASCAR since 2020, so after a few years not watching I see this and I'm shocked to see almost everyone everywhere taking about this
You can dump the leader , but you can't use everything to your advantage to better your position, guys have use the wall at darlington for years to make up positions
The best part was him knocking Hamlin out. Watch for NASCAR to make a rule against something like this. NASCAR wanted that number 11 in the championship run they make too much money from Toyota sponsorship.
Ross the boss Chastain is the reason I watch the races honestly I'm a dirt racing fan and what he did is what dirt racers do every race, put on a show and sale some shirts
The ONLY time someone is going to pull a 'rim-job' is for the win or a position in the chase. If you hit the wall during a wrecking finish at Talladega and advance a spot, I guess a new rule would make it illegal. Fernando Alonso said this was the greatest moment in racing this year.
When are the white lines coming? Passing lane ahead. . . NASCAR needs to leave this alone until a change is needed. As a fan this was the most EPIC move ever, NASCAR would be foolish to say anything right now. . . .
My take on that move is it'll probably only work on a small course like Martinsville. The curve is so tight that everyone going for the inside has to slow down a considerable amount, and the course is so small that, while Chastain carried this through turns 3 and 4, there still wasn't a whole lot of time or distance that he spent going along the wall. In terms of legality, I feel like if the rules are going to change to prevent this in the name of safety, let people meddle with the sport and dilute it as much as they want, but any rule against using the wall to your strategic advantage shouldn't be enforced retroactively, and it will almost certainly end up similar to, or possibly worse than, the double yellow line/shoulder penalty shenanigans. Long story short, Ross Chastain is a mad genius masquerading as a NASCAR driver, and I live for his antics.
I tried it in IRACING at a handful of tracks. TRACKS THAT IT "WORKS" AT; Works- .4 of a second faster than normal fresh tires. MARTINSVILLE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, PHOENIX, BRISTOL, LA COLISEUM. I bet someone will try it if they can at Phoenix.
If Reddick really did experience issues of not feeling right in the head from a bumper to bumper stack up on a restart, imagine the damage that could be done if someone is traveling 40+ mph faster than you and hits you in the back bumper while trying to do what Chastain did. If they want to allow wall riding as a legal move, then they need to soften up the ends of the cars again to absorb some of that force.
In all honesty, if NASCAR bans this move, you need to remove this win and in playoff format. This form of playoff racing is what is causing moves like that. It was amazing, it was phenomenal but if you ban this move, you need to remove this playoff format
The only thing that would have been even cooler is if he was a few cars behind the leader and made that move and passed the leader just before checkered flag and won the race! But all in all he wanted it and took a big chance but he damn sure done it and was awesome!
No Rule!!! Chastain Got Lucky, if anyone ahead of him was running that top line he wouldn't have been able to run the the wall. Goes to show "Who wants it bad enough"? Chastain certainly did, he was hungry to be in the top 4 @ Phenix!👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Does anyone remember the Darlington stripe??? The fastest way around Darlington was to rub your right side of the car against the guard rail. Good drivers had the stripe bad drivers stayed away from the wall.
I feel like an element of the "make a rule" conversation I haven't seen much mention of is the damage report. Freddie touched on it with the missed joke opportuniy.. but I don't seen the wall ride being an option in any other situation than the hail mary last lap gotta get a position type play. I have yet to see any info on how buckled the car was, but I doubt it could have completed any additional laps.. My point is, I think everyone is talking about it, but it was a one in a million move.
That means in the case that you're talking about every time somebody's at Darlington and puts a stripe on it they got to go to the back they got to leave this alone they ain't got a leg to stand on it's just going to make it worse if they try messing with it
3:14. "A terrorists attack"?? What an idiotic thing to say. Comparing one of the best moves in NASCAR history, to one of the most horrific days in American history. Unreal!!
Why do you all on this podcast call certain drivers a whiner? If this is the case what do you call Bubba? Asking for a friend. The move was amazing. This season is full of drama. Better than a television drama.
My mom always said if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all… the last lap is circle track porn and the drivers saying it’s embarrassing or bad move are in the bathroom with a rag watching it on replay..everyone knows how great it would fell to shift with no lift going into a turn to get a spot so to say it’s bad for the sport just makes you look like an ass cause everyone wants to know what it’s like to pull 5gs in a car in a turn he shifted boys cause he had the balls hats off to this man do it for Dale
Agree with Larry McReynolds. If nascar officiates this move out of the sport, they’re going to kill all the goodwill the sport garnered from the move itself. AWFUL IDEA to make a rule against something that could only work at Martinsville anyway
I don't see it working again because everyone will be looking/waiting for it to happen again plus will the situation ever really present itself again where someone will be physically in a position to do it. Last lap your in 2nd, can you simply floor it, cut to the wall and take off? I'm not sure it would be that simple, wouldn't you need space to accelerate AND you would have to touch the wall at the perfect angle. Kudos to Ross for pulling it off, doesn't it just fit that it was him that pulled this off this year after his other adventures so far? Go get the championship dude!

never watched a second of nascar, but that was awesome
Earnhardt Sr: “Put casters on the right side, I’ve got an idea.”
RCR Fab Shop: “Yes sir.”
new rule "whiners not allowed to play" go set on the side lines.
They will make a rule. Yep. But, part of the reason for the rule will be to preserve the most Iconic moment in American motorsports, maybe worldwide.
There will be another NASCAR movie, e.g. Days of Thunder, made from this one Iconic move. That is what we just witnessed.
I’ve never watched nascar in my life. I was watching football when I saw the clip and now I’m here listening to a nascar podcast. So I’d say marketing wise, chastains move worked lol.
Every NASCAR driver is on Sim or iRacing this week practicing and trying to see how this works at Phoenix.....
No rule, 👍👍 to Ross Chastain
chastain really said "I'm fast af, boyyy!"
It’s crazy how definitive these guys can be with their opinions when the topic doesn’t involve bubba Wallace
they still managed to sneak him into the conversation :)
I think that NASCAR will wait to make a rule for a couple of reasons. 1. How much the viewership of the last race increases. 2. Might not need it because after they make the changes to the cars it might just be impossible to do.
I can't wait for him to be introduced at Phoenix...the roar gonna be huge
If Nascar makes a rule then a lot of people will turn it off. This is the definition of doing what it takes to make it for a chance for the trophy.
I quit watching Nascar 15 years ago. First time I’ve paid ANY attention to it was this. If they make a rule because of this I’ll know I made the right call to quit watching.
This moment reached so far out of the sphere of NASCAR it was insane!
So true
If they wanted the 11 in they would’ve penalized chastian. The 20 is in anyways on speed so your point is moot
You should have told Bubba, YOUR FIRED!
Ross the boss Chastain is the reason I watch the races honestly I'm a dirt racing fan and what he did is what dirt racers do every race, put on a show and sale some shirts
Who all remembers Dale Sr.'s pass in the grass back in '79 At least I think it was his first year when he did that. Richard Petty has talked about it.
The ONLY time someone is going to pull a 'rim-job' is for the win or a position in the chase.
If you hit the wall during a wrecking finish at Talladega and advance a spot, I guess a new rule would make it illegal.
Fernando Alonso said this was the greatest moment in racing this year.
MAN If you want something bad like he does what the hell try it ! thumbs up to him !
"Let your balls hang out & do that" - quote of the year
Nascar making a rule against it makes Chastain legendary as the only driver to EVER. DO. THAT.
Ross will be this years most popular driver im calling it now
When are the white lines coming?
TRACKS THAT IT "WORKS" AT;
Works- .4 of a second faster than normal fresh tires.
MARTINSVILLE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, PHOENIX, BRISTOL, LA COLISEUM.
I bet someone will try it if they can at Phoenix.
You hit the nail on the head. He out smarted everyone, he has more balls and the haters are trying to find a problem with it.
Brilliant move.
Agree with Brett because racing is racing and if u have balls to do it boys have at it
With this move, Chastain elevated himself to cult following status, the same as Earnhardt with "The Pass In The Grass".
No no no. This is the most positive coverage NASCAR has had all season. People that don't watch NASCAR are talking about this. This was a good thing.
Bet he scared his guardian angels to death
The safer barrier made it works pretty well
No new rules. Rules are bad. Just make changes to the car to make it more difficult.
That means in the case that you're talking about every time somebody's at Darlington and puts a stripe on it they got to go to the back they got to leave this alone they ain't got a leg to stand on it's just going to make it worse if they try messing with it
What year did Harry Gant rub a hole in his fender at Darlington? Not exactly the same situation but he bounced off the wall several times that day.
People need to admit that this was a once in a lifetime move.
3:14. "A terrorists attack"?? What an idiotic thing to say. Comparing one of the best moves in NASCAR history, to one of the most horrific days in American history. Unreal!!
That was a Cole Trickle move. Lol
What’s the rule they would put in? No passing on the last lap? Or no touching the wall on the last lap?
NASCAR please don’t mess this up with a DA rule!!! To me, this is racing @ its best!!! I agree with Brett.
