@@duaneradecke4651 Have you ever been involved in racing cars or anything for that matter? If you have, you'll know that these guys are competitors, especially when you get to the top tier. The DEFAULT state with these competitors is tension and distaste for each other. I raced motocross for 19 years and my family raced Sprint Cars since before they even had that name and still does today. I help at the shop all week long. Anybody who is capable of being in the top 5 each week like we are, we don't like ANY of them. Respect, when you try to look at it as objectively as you can, sure. My point is, you do NOT have to try to start any bad blood between any 2 racers that are at the top because if they're not already fighting they're balancing on a knife's edge at all times already. I'm sure after we and they all retire it'll be fine. In fact, one of the other teams we are/used to be really close friends with, WHEN we were not in the same division and racing against each other at the same track every week. Now we do not make a habit of speaking. If you're unfamiliar to it it'll be hard for you to understand but if you are, you'll I think know exactly what I mean.

Dale is such a genuine, down to Earth, kind person. It’s so rare these days, especially with someone who has the fame and fortune that Jr has. Most people would not have turned out like Jr did if they grew up in his shoes, trying to live up to expectations (relationship with his dad) then finally reaching his goal, racing in Cup with Sr then having to endure after the tragedy of losing his Father and having to be reminded of that fact every single day by everyone you see and everyone you work with. Most people couldn’t fathom the amount of pressure and strain that puts on a person. If anyone wonders why NASCAR fans adore him, watch this video and you’ll have your answer. He’s done so much for NASCAR and we as fans are lucky to have him.

    • @traviselkins4055

You couldn't be more right, but I don't believe he was always like that and he's honest about that. His wife turned him into this person and he's now giving so much more back to the sport then he ever got from it. I don't believe they would ever do it or he would ever do it, but this man needs to be running the show in NASCAR. If the sport is going to change and become what it was previously, he needs to be at the top driving the bus.

Harvick is not the least bit afraid of stating his opinion and manning up. And before you start talking about him not removing his helmet just sit back and think, was that his focus at the moment, in the heat of the moment? Harvick has never backed down, hence, why he was tapped by Big E himself as his replacement when he retired (while running Junior's team). But you can tell by their eye contact and how they discuss it and laugh at each other. Thank you Junior for bringing a legend here while you still give back to the sport! We all know it, but it should be said: These two have quite a connection, even before the Xfinity stuff. Kevin is the man who stepped into Dale's father's car after his death. That alone should create quite a bond, but I can imagine it could grow some animosity too if such a seed is later planted.

Kevin was definitely put in a bad position when he was renegotiating his ‘17 deal with Stewart-Haas during the period of a youth movement into the sport, where hungry young drivers would accept much less to get a seat. But keep in mind Jimmie Johnson’s comments of a few days ago, where he said the EXACT SAME THING about the sport moving ahead…that salaries are high and costs are being drastically cut…

It may have been true, but the problem Harvick had was he felt it was unfair and selfish of Earnhardt Jr. who was the biggest name in the sport at the time and the most popular driver to come out and say that publicly. Earnhardt was basically saying at the time that he knew he was getting overpaid, but as long as he "got his" it didn't matter to him if the other drivers at the time (Harvick, Kenseth) got theirs or not. That's the problem Harvick had with Earnhardt's comments and he was in the right to be pissed about it.
I do agree with Earnhardt, though, that a lot of times you're put on the spot in these press conferences by reporters and media when they ask questions and stuff comes out before you think it out, and a lot of times when they ask you questions there aren't right answers for them just wrong ones.

This conversation is a prime example of why I always like to say no matter the topic, no matter the persons discussing it, objectivity is a myth. There ain't no such thing. Everybody's looking at a situation from his/her own perspective, simply because it's damn near impossible to see it from another's perspective. But it always helps to try.

I get the frustration of you got JR on his way out and he’s making people question his legacy and having to defend it to make sure it withstood the test of time. However from Harvicks point of view you have a driver who’s made every damn dollar he could his entire career and on his way out he’s telling drivers they need to lower their prices after he’s already made his money and now you got someone in the middle of a contract negotiation now having to justify his worth because team owners are saying maybe JR is right. Both sides had reason to take it personally.

IMO Being on his way out had nothing to do with Dale's comment. As he explained while being interviewed, questions are coming at rapid speed. Dale answered from the heart in the moment. His answer would have been perfectly fine if had between a bunch of drivers. Once it was answered on a national scale Dale realized it probably was not the right answer. No matter how good you are, you are only worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay you.

There has always been a stink eye from the traditional southern drivers and more so, the fans. You can hear it in the stands and tone of the crowds. Kinda is what it is unfortunately.

Jimmie was so dominant for so long. I think the fan base associated the lack of diversity regarding success, directly with Jimmie. Any factor the fans weren't pleased with, for example, boring racing, their favorite drivers not winning, predictability of Jimmie dominating at particular race tracks; some of that negativity becomes associated with Jimmie himself. That's my opinion for why Jimmie isn't more popular. In these scenarios, they are loved and appreciated much more in the future, in 60 years Jimmie will get the respect and acknowledgement he deserves.

I remember in my 22 yrs in the Navy, especially first few years, everyone at work hung out together even when they were off, and all we did was talk shop, was like we had little in common with civilians but we did relate in so many ways, but unless you are in whatever "group" you were part of, no one else gets it But, as You young men are learning, as you get older, many times your viewpoint on things changes, and sure, some times you look back and wonder why you did what you did back then, even wonder who that person that was you back then could even been the person that did that! At the same time, you can do what ya'll did , talk about it, share what was going on that neither one knew, and even have a laugh about it...great show!

Man, I would of loved to be in the room for that podcast. I'm a Harvick fan since he took over the legends car. I'm a Jr fan because he always seemed / seems to be just a down to earth regular guy. To me he just seems like a person that you run into and can talk with him and he would be cool with that. Reminds me of the time I helped Bill Murray at the shop I worked at and him and I just talked. He was normal. I think if I ever get a chance to meet Jr outside of a race track he would be just that other dude. Kevin, I'm a fan until he hangs the helmet up. I would love to just talk with him as well. We all know our chances of doing so are slim to none for opportunities like that. I got the honor to hang out with Kevin for a brief minute at Darlington during the Busch race. We were apart of AC Delco and got to hang in the pit stall during the race. For the brief minute I got to talk to Kev, he made us feel welcomed. He was running double duty so we actually got to talk more with Delana. She was cool as well. Why am I typing this IDK, guess I just think it's super cool that Jr had him on the show and they just did the right thing. Still people boo'd him. i get why people boo my boy Kyle B. However, they don't question his ability. maybe JJ should have thrown the occasional helmet, yelled obscenities at a journalist, etc. maybe the people would have related better? fans want to see the passion, not just the flawless work ethic.

For some reason, fans hate it when one guy wins too much. But I thought what Jimmie did was excellent. But what fans look for is passion and a win at all cost attitude. They want excitement even if it means payback or fistfights. I always said if NASCAR wants to get its fans back, they should go back to their roots. Racing Rockingham or North Wilkesboro or better still going back to the old point system and whoever has the most points wins the title. Fans want a variety. Competition was and still is the name of the game.

      TL:DR
In my book, Jimmie Johnson is right up there with the greats.
Been a lifelong JJ fan. Started simply because he was 24's team-mate so if 24 couldn't win, hell, maybe the 48 could. Lol. Now, maybe I'm just naive but, I also never understood how Jimmie wasn't more popular. Ok, I did feel like he was part of that precipice in the early 2000's of "corporate racers". I.e. too clean cut, interviewed too well and "nice". Was he just "boring" or too composed in interviews? Idk. However, the guy (and team) were absolute monsters for a time. Tenacious and gritty when need be. The talent, mixed with the incredible machines Hendrick were putting out at the time was something to behold. Was fortunate enough to meet him twice through a company I worked for and honestly, the guy was as modest and friendly as they come. Treated me like "one of the guys". Anyhow, I've typed enough I suppose.

    @shinnstoneer7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn't expect Mike, or anyone on there, to admit part of why Harvick's words hurt as much as it appears it did was because of how much truth might have been in those words.
Dale Jr meant then significantly more than he does now because he was active and that's something because he still means a whole lot. Now just imagine what that would've meant for Nascar & stock car racing if Jr had won a few races every year. Imagine the impact if he had won 2-3 season championships.
Excellent 3 way convo that hit on all the realities of the situation.

Never an Earnhardt fan, tried to dislike Jr...but I just can't, he is truly a good guy. Never a Harvick fan either, he's said some ugly things about competitors but you can see the true heart of a driver by how they treat the media when upset. I've never seen either of them be ugly to the media, to me that's what separates them from the Kyle B and Stewarts

I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. I feel very fortunate that I got to be around many of the NASCAR legends. Dale Earnhardt Jr was/is a very down-to-earth fan friendly nice guy. Dale Earnhardt Sr was a humble/quiet person and didn't interact with fans very much. At a racetrack, he was all "business" and he was not there to make friends. All-in-all, Dale Sr was a nice guy but not everybody got to see the many sides of him. I firmly believe that Dale Jr learned things from his dad that he didn't understand until later on.

Very true he didn't but he sure didn't have a problem getting the top salary the sport during that period when the performance didn't match up not even close to other drivers in same equipment.. That was what Kevin was trying to point out in a round about way. Then when Dale Jr was retiring and put more effort into ownership did a complete about face on drivers salary stating they should make way less which really pissed off some vet drivers especially who had way better stats then Jr. IN other professional sports, performance is the biggest factor in compensation/salary not always the case in motorsports especially with dale jr. Now granted popularity also is a huge factor in merchandising which absolutely Dale Jr deserved his lions share.
