      Denny is an amazing person. Like many athletes, he has his personality when on the track. Remember, we see these guys as soon as they get off the track and running 500 miles. But I can tell you this. My best friend has a child that's special needs. She was a HUGE fan of a Nascar driver. They were able to get a garage pass and they spent the entire weekend at Darlington. When her favorite driver came walking by, she stared waving and trying to say hi. Her parents were waving right at him. He wasn't more than six feet away and ignored him. She was crying. a little later after trying to calm her down, Denny Hamlin came walking by. Not only did he stop, he told her everything was going to be okay. He put his arm around her and gave her a hug. Signed and took a picture. Taking a few minutes out of his day, changed her entire weekend. Her father (who hated Hamlin as a driver) just broke down as you might imagine. My point of that story is we judge these guys based on what they do on the track and the few interviews right after they get out of the car.

    5:45 - 6:05 Usually I don't agree with a lot of what Denny says, but this time he's talking sense. Especially to point out the 22 and the 2 in turn 1. The 22 on the restart with 3 to go just piled it straight into turn 1 which ended up cleaning Kyle Busch and the 14 and the 23 out, and the 2 on the GWC restart just drilled Suarez into 1 which shunted Suarez into Blaney and AJ and led to the 12 getting spun. Just reckless driving, definitely looked bad for NASCAR. Ross Chastain taking the access road imo was a smart move, he was on the outside of 4 wide and he knew he was gonna get cleaned out if he tried to make turn 1, shame it didn't work out but at least he saved that car from further damage. If Ross had gone into turn 1 he was 100% getting shoved into the grass and maybe spun, AJ was to his inside and even he ended up pretty much completely in the grass cause of the #2 shoving Suarez into Blaney and AJ

      Denny is actually one of the smartest and makes what should be happening in a language that's understandable to the average fan. His problem is when he's talking about him after a race. He's obviously got a temper and to be fair they stick a microphone in front of these drivers faces the second they get out of their cat after a 500 mile race. Denny is great when he hasn't just gotten out of a racecar

      The simplest solution would be to move the start finish line for the road course just before turn one yeah you can put some bricks down if you like screw tradition this should be all about safety they should be driving through turn one at 80 mph 2x2

    • @kevinkenyon1254
      @kevinkenyon1254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They will never move the starting line from the bricks, this is Indy! But easy to fix with a few gallons of white paint. Just paint a line that funnels the cars two wide to the outside turning into turn one. You can call it the "Logano Line." It shifts the apex entering the first turn much farther to the left and will stop the amateurish dive bombing. Cross the line during the race and it's a stop n go penalty. Cross the line during the last two laps on a restart and it's a 30 second time penalty. For those taking the alternate route just make a stop n go line before the right turn then a second stop n go line at the edge of the track before entering.

    1: Make the rules _CLEAR_
    2: Use an IndyCar type of system to assess penalties real-time during the race.
    _(Meantime later)_
    *AND*
    Another thought, change turn one.
    Here’s a crazy idea since NASCAR seems to like them so much, use the run off lane on restarts, then use turn one the rest of the time.
    I don’t know why all road courses have to have a first turn that is almost impossible to get thru on restarts. Contact in open wheel cars is not as forgiving so those guys are usually not as gung-ho as NASCAR drivers have become with this new car. And that may be part of the problem, drivers seem to be more willing to shove right into a crowd knowing the car can take the punishment.

    • @tmthylthm

      The rule should be a common sense thing... If you go out of bounds and gain time, you get a penalty. If you go out of bounds and lose time, you don't get a penalty. I'm not sure why it's so difficult for the fanbase to understand this.

    Easiest fix for the Indy road course.... flip it around ! Run it in the same direction as the oval would run. Then turn 1 would the long sweeping turn 14. It's really that simple. This is why NASCAR needed to do some timing on the bail out road, make it to where you loose too much time to make it a viable option. Could have added a chicane or weave-throughs that would have added time to negate any advantage. Indycar/CART had this issue back in the mid to late 90s and it solved with these features. Thank you NASCAR, I've available to officiate whenever you want/NEED me too.

    NASCAR should adopt a rule, where if you cause the wreak, like Logano carelessly making a 7th lane and blowing through the field, then you get sent to the back of the field for reckless driving. It's easy to tell, whether something was carelessly done on purpose vs a racing deal, like sure NASCAR wants the drivers to police themselves, but it's contradicting when they get slapped with a fine or points deduction if any retaliation of any kind happens.

    I love watching the stock cars on the road courses... Turn one in Indy is the worst design ever, and not enough thought was put into it. It's about as bad as the final turn rumble strips / speed bumps last year...
    They need a chicane before turn one to funnel the cars down before the turn. It goes from the wide oval track down to the narrow road course way too abruptly.
    And the run-offs. and access roads need to require a full stop before re-entering the race course.

    NASCAR just needs to copy and paste F1’s corner cutting rule. “If you leave the racing surface (all four tires are past the white lines) and gain a lasting advantage, you may be penalized”. Passing a car does not mean anything, like they said. If you gain any sort of advantage from cutting the corner, you should be penalized. And it should be black and white, no feel sorry calls like “oh he was avoiding a wreak” or something like that. I think NASCAR made the right call with Ross, I just wish they would have been more strict across the whole weekend with this.

    • @KumoGoesFast
      @KumoGoesFast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not sure if you watch f1 every week but that's not how it works here, you get warnings for going wide before they penalize you, and they will not penalize you for going off track to avoid a wreck. each incident is different

      @tyman1014 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KumoGoesFast I know. I’m just saying that NASCAR needs better, more black and white road course rules like the gaining a lasting advantage rule that F1 has.
