We need this style of architecture to come back all over the United States. It is hopeful and aspirational. I think 60 years of building soulless glass cubes, shopping centers with box stores, and copy-and-paste vinyl stick houses, our cities and towns have become bland at best. I think when places are beautiful and awe-inspiring, everyone cares more.
Yeah a lot of people agree with you but it's far more expensive to build like this than it was in the early 20th century. Labor is a lot more expensive and stone workers/craftsmen to do the ornamental work are a lot less common. Materials are also more expensive, and while people may not like all the glass and steel of modernism, it's just what the clients want. That being said I would love to see more buildings take inspiration from our country's rich and often lost history of architecture, and many new buildings have done so like Beckford Tower, 150 East 78th Street, and One Bennet Park. I would love to see more brickwork, stone, and terra cotta, but it's very expensive and who's gonna pay for that?
To the op, you are ABSOLUTELY correct! Everything doesn't have to be about money, and it wasn't until around the 1980s... But who would remember that. We need to do things for the human spirit! There are opportunities everywhere!
