  • Hi my dear TH-camrs! 🚙👋 Today I'm giving you the long overdue update on our engine problem on our Land Rover LR4 Discovery 4. As you know, I added the Liqui Moly Hydraulic Additive to my engine oil a while ago because I thought the engine ticking was coming from the hydraulic tappets. Unfortunately, after 2,500 km this is not the case and to make matters worse there is now another noise that the engine is making. 🤦‍♂️
But apart from this news, I also have a really sound tip for you on how you can reduce the friction within your engine and thus possibly increase its service life
I hope you enjoy the new video and have a great Sunday,
    Peter

So after having mine apart last night with the exact same noise I found the timing chain tapping the cam cover , new chain and tensioner it's perfect now

Das gleiche Geräusch machte meiner auch. Eindeutig die Krümmer Dichtung. 🙈

I’ve used Ceratec in my SDV6 for the last 5 years and 70k miles. The oil analysis done after each oil change shows very low wear rates.

Smoke test is the best and easiest way how to find an air leak in your system.

  • @millycarrington
    @millycarrington 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Try a smoke test on the intake system (watch LR time how to), it may show where you have a leak, could be intake manifold / cam cover as they are prone to cracking

Hi. I have had replaced intake manifold both sides. Was same problem but my indie shop didn’t fit properly so now started again… and I used ceratec and diesel power fuel additive for injection every fueling. Getting better better drive smoothly. Go to check intake manifolds may be some cracked there~~~^^

    Hi,
I had the same thing, I poured the same additive and there were also sounds from the pushers on the left half of the engine. The pushers under the camshafts had to be replaced, but the noise that made the most noise was the hydraulic chain tensioner that connects the two camshafts together. After the repair, the noise problem stopped and the knocking stopped.
    Greetings, Tomasz from Poland :)

Hey Tomasz! I think that this is also the problem on my Disco. I'll have to check with the garage what they charge for the repair. It won't be cheap in any case 😄 All the best to you, Peter

@@notthatkindofachannel The parts themselves are cheap, i.e. pusher cups, seals, etc., but the work of a specialist costs a bit :) on one of the camshafts of the left half of the engine, you need to unscrew the pulley from the bulkhead side with a specialized wrench, because if it doesn't work, it's because there is no room to put your hand in it you have to remove the body from the vehicle frame :) additionally there is a valve cover gasket and injector washers :)

Hi Peter, I had a whistling noise in my D4 only really noticeable when just starting to drive off and also most notably when coasting down a hill and it was the primary turbo (left hand side). Unfortunately it was a body off job that I couldn’t do myself and had to pay to have done.

I can hear the whistle, it could be a loose intake pipe, gasket or exhaust leak.

Hi Peter ... 🙏🏻 Just wounded if you know of an issue with ! When using rear screen heater ..my radio stops working ( & works when turned off )
Have been on JLR forums ..and told it's wires going. Into boot tailgate ! but wasn't very well explained.... ? Do you know anything About!? ? 🙏🏻
    Thanks

Hey, no, I'm sorry! I would simply start by removing the fuses one by one and then test whether the problem still occurs. So remove the rear window heater fuse, then switch the radio back on and see if the problem persists etc... But it sounds to me a bit like a problem with the wiring. All the best, Peter

Hi again. I have one more thing to tell you, but I forgot. As the belt tensioner on your Discovery 4 gets older, it reaches the end of its lifespan and moves around a lot. As it moves, it makes a ticking noise and various other noises and vibrations. Please check the belt side. This is my experience. See yah~~~^^😊

That whistling sound is the turbo, could be its the gasket that is leaking, if it's not its probably the turbo on its way out
