Heads up! If you have a hybrid with a CVT, you will lose a quart of Toyota ATF WS fluid from your CVT when you take your CV axle out. So either place a pan underneath to collect it, it will pour out. Or, drain your CVT first. Then repace your CV axle. Remembering to fill your CVT fluid after. Another thing to take note of is that the Hybrid CV axle is much beefier than the standard Highlander CV axle. So make sure your auto part store gave you the right one!
Yup. I was replacing the driver side axle on my 2006 highlander hybrid AWD and autozone gave me the wrong size. Order the right part from rockauto and it’s much beefier. Now my highlander is back to normal 😎👍🏼
At the 7:28 mark, you said when the axle comes out you may lose some fluid. What determines whether you do or not? I just worked on an 05' Highlander and lost about 3 1/2 quarts when I pulled out the drivers side axle. The manual says to add about 3.7 litres or quarts (can't remember which) when you do a fluid and filter change. I lost about 3 1/2 quarts removing the axle, then another almost 4 quarts when I changed the transmission filter. I'm confused...lol.
What was wrong with the old CV axle? The only thing I've known to look for is boots failing. So I was wondering if there are other signs to indicate my wife's Highlander needs new ones that I should be looking for. Because the old boots on that one looked fine in the video.
+vtmegrad98 Thanks for watching! You are correct, most of the time the CV axle will fail due to the boot's condition. Once the boot breaks it will leak grease and debris will get into the joints, causing them to break. One sign you can look for is hearing a clicking sound when turning the wheel. That is usually a good indication the the CV joint is failing. 1aauto.com
So If I did this and had transmission fluid leak. Where do I replace the fluid at? I have a 2007 toyota highlander hybrid and had some leak out and didnt have any fluid handy. Now I need to know how to replace. Dont judge me haha. It's my first time working on my own car.. help!!!
There is a special tool that is used to lift the dimple out from the axle spindle nut. You risk damaging the axle threads by just using a screwdriver or punch.

One of the most professional and careful Mechanics i've seen
My pet hate is mechanics that put wheel nuts on with a rattle gun
I taught myself a lesson when I used an impact driver on the wheel nuts. 🤦♂️😡 Next time I had a flat I struggled to get the wheel off. 😩
@7:30 you may lose fluid, but where do you add the fluid?
I just wanted to say thanks ur videos help me work on all my cars I just did the driver side cv axle and it was so easy
wow I wish I had a lift, I couldnt see what you used your pry bar on to get the control arm down far enough to put the ball joint bolts in.

Is this the same process with the awd?

Can the cv axles be replaced one at a time or do they need to be replaced together at one time?
what’s the toque spec for cv axle nuts
I have a 2009 model; is it the same or similar.

Do you need to put any lubricant on the transmission-side of the axle? Thanks in advance!
+AC462 You may not have to. If you follow the procedure in the video you should be okay. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Why was there no damper on the new axel?
thank you!
So you have a lift but no impact?
How many miles this Highlander had? Otherwise great video.
I did replace on 2008 highlander, but a lot of fluid came out, that is transmission fluid right?
+J Flow Thanks for watching! Yes, at the 7:30 mark he states that some transmission fluid can be lost when replacing this part. 1aauto.com

What kind of gloves are those
The ones from the airport. Remember? Schnap!0)))
I can't believe you don't also change out the axle oil seal while you have the axle removed.
