Its an incredible machine!!!
Owned a 98 as my 1st bike. Rode the heck out of it for about a year and started throwing parts at it. Ended up with an absolute monster that was way too fast for my maturity (or lack thereof) at 18 years old. Kept it stock length but added a ton of motor work (Turbo, rods, pistons, etc)and suspension to it. The bike ended up in an impound yard somewhere near Vegas and was auctioned off after a "encounter" with a Nevada DPS helicopter above the double century mark.
Loved how smooth and "easy" the bike was at any speed. Could cruise at an easy, relaxing pace even with the modifications but a flick of the wrist and it came alive. Put it on a track in stock form and it would keep up with liter bikes over a complete lap. They'd lose me in a corner but would reel them in effortlessly in the straights. Test and tune nights at the local drag strip were simply amazing. $10k motorcycle and some skills would destroy almost anything that would show up except for full on, fat tire drag cars with a couple hundred grand in them.
20 years later and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on another Busa. Couldn't imagine going for anything but a 1st gen. I feel like the 3rd and even the 2nd just doesn't feel like a Busa and I wouldn't be happy with it. I have my eye on a 06 that is in absolutely pristine condition and 100% unmodified with 30k and an impeccable maintenance record.
Wow, hitting 200 plus is not something that many people in world get to do!
It is getting harder to find clean examples of gen1 Busas, they are over 20 years old now, crazy how time flies.
If you found one with maintenance records, that's pretty incredible. I think I've only ever bought 2 or 3 bikes that had any kind of service records, it seems to be alot more rare for bikes than cars, at least around here.
Bought mine brand new in 04 still have it all factory, looking too add the new gen 3 ! Can't start mine without hitting at least 110 lol enjoy it they are amazing,and yes done long trips 1300 miles plus one way!!!
Yep, dream bike - super quick - a whole other level to any bike you've ever ridden - power, wheelbase being long, weight up front, it is totally different - had this bike from 2002 until 2016, replaced it with a Gen 2 such is the impression and commitment - true that the weight up front was to stop it wheelieing all the time - it is tall geared - 130kph in first standard gearing - and around 170-180 kph in second gear - insane but liveable and fun but weighty on tight roads. I rode it on the track and they said I had to limit it to 5th gear - I went past the flag at 300kph plus and they questioned my commitment to 5th gear, I explained that it did that, and more, in fifth, they made me stick with fourth (still 270kph) ha ha. What a bike.
The gas handle got 270 degree turn for full power. So you need to grab it over to go full power.
I was in highschool when this came out it was the most mind-blowing motorcycle at that time i have a gen 1 all stock i ride but mostly a keep sake
Yeah it was the bike to have back then wasn't it? It was the king of speed! :). It's still a great machine today I think.
I'm 60 and own a 200 hp 2006 Gen 1 , just a mild cam, air box mods
and a few cosmetic things ... Scary at times when you think you are
doing 100kph and look down and its 170...
It's such a smooth bike, it really is easy to hit triple digits and feel like your just cruising! The crazy thing is, that's only third gear! Haha
Seriously considering a Gen 1 Busa to accompany my 2017 Ninja ZX14R. I previously had the 2022 Busa but had to sell it when I moved. I feel like I would enjoy the older Gen more though especially because of the more comfortable seating position it had. The new one has these dummy textured pieces where my knees would sit so grip was terrible 😂
The Zx14R is a real beast! I had one last year as well. I shot a busa vs Zx14 at the end of last season, but haven't had time to edit all the footage yet.
What do you think of your 17 Zx14? The one I had was an 08, and I think it was the fastest thing I've ever been on, to be honest. The busa may have had more top end, but I never ran either all the way to the limit....I'd like to keep my license lol.
Yeah the seat on the gen1 Busa is mega comfortable, its like riding a couch basically lol. The reach to the bars was just slightly longer than my 08 Zx14 though.
Got a 2023 Gen 3 and love it
I have 24000 miles on it already, I work at Tesla in Austin and live 74 miles from work… daily driver.

I still have my 2001 Hayabusa that I bought new (old guy, 72 years old now), no mods. For tires I'm using Dunlop SportMax Q5S 01: rear: 190/50/ZR17 front:120/70/ZR17. A Busa makes 80% of its peak torque from 3500 rpm to 10500 rpm, a wide power band.
Thats awesome!! The acceleration of a busa is something I think all riders should experience once in their lives, if they have the opportunity :). Pulling like a freight train is probably a little overused, but with the Busa its actually a true statement!
You need to grab the brakes hard. I like them how they are;) if it bikes your front wil lock up. Easy adjust frontbreaks.
For goodness sake press the go button!
I found the cleanest '03 Hayabusa on marketplace...best bike ever made! I'm about to go ride right now...its 43 degrees outside but fuk it! Ride safe!

@@jimstenlund6017 Oh, the engine heat helps a little but nothing substantial...
Braided lines and Galfer discs with Brembo sinthered pads will fix the brake issues. Also 1 to 2 inch risers for the bars for older guys are nice. Then there is the Puig double bubble screen for high speed riding..
You really do need some "man handling" for these to corner, but absolutely will deliver when commanded with authority.
The Busa is relatively comfortable stock, probably because the seat is so incredible! I did grab some risers though, but never installed them after I got used to the stock bar height :p

My most recent bike was the FZ07 or MT07, I changed several things on that bike but I honestly never felt the brakes were vague even in stock form, mine also being pre-ABS. I bought mine be in 2016, put Renthal low bars, shorty levers, braided lines and a set of PR4's on it shortly after getting it. It definitely changed the bike for the better but I never felt the brakes were lacking before the changes.
The Mt07 is a super fun machine isn't it? :).
It may have been the cheap aftermarket levers the previous owner put on the bike, that affected the feel of the brakes. That, combined with the stock front forks that got a bit squishy under hard braking, may have contributed to the vague feel. The brakes could have needed to be bled, but that would be weird considering it only had a couple thousand miles on it when I got it, and it was a 2021.
Still is a blast to ride either way though!
Got my 2006 Gen 1 Busa back in 2021 after 1 year of riding (over here in Scotland), moved to it from a 2004 GSXR600, was surprised how docile and easy to ride it is, a 1" bar riser makes a big difference, as does braided brake lines, my 95 full power Yamaha V Max feels very sketchy in comparison, feels like a nice big muscle bike till you hit 6K then all hell breaks loose, feels very primitive compared to the Busa, interestingly both bikes run pretty much the same 1/4 mile times, cant see myself ever parting with the Busa, really don't know what could replace it.
It's funny you should mention the Vmax, I had one a couple years back as well, and you are right, it did feel a bit sketchy compared to the Busa! The Busa is really planted and confidence inspiring all through the rev range, but man does it pull once you get the RPM's cooking :)
I've been wanting one for years and finally got a 2005 on February. A little scared of the throttle, it revs too fast.
The Busa is a beast, but if you keep it under 50% throttle, its not too crazy. Having a disciplined throttle hand is important....but sometimes I accidently crank that throttle wide open though....haha :p
Those old conventionally mounted 6 pot brakes were very wooden feeling. I had the K3 GSXR1000, which is the forst year of the radial mounted brakes, much, much better. That year also had a pad per piston. Try different pads and steal braided lines.
Yeah these brakes do get the bike stopped, but lack a bit of feel compared to newer brembo systems and such. The feel of the brakes on the GSXS 750 I bought this year reminds me a bit of the busa brakes as well. Neither one really has much initial bite, but they do get you stopped fine.
If I was going to keep either of them as long term machines, you are right, steel braided brakes lines would be an excellent way to go.

That's funny, I have an '21 GSXS750 and I love the brakes, maybe yours just needs a good bleeding.
Most with some mileage actually dyno around 160-165 hp tire. Obviously not all but if you're only making in the 140-150 range it'a been abused some...
I've never had this one dyno'd so I'm not sure. I think I was just spit balling what I thought there would be after drive-train loss. I was probably a little too conservative with the numbers, the Busa definitely hits hard!
Dunlop Sportmax dual compound tires are highly recommended!! Big difference in handling!!
I agree bro that's a great tire on a Bsua. I had a 01 it was my first Busa that thing was just different (I'm talking about the that year). In the corners it's the way you ride it, it's gonna take some getting use to she'll teach you what to do as you ride. Do more corners, I have a 2005 now and I love it love it love it...next bike will probably be a H2 or H2r
@@wewhagg Big mistake for most people is not allowing the tires to get warm before hard throttling. ( Huge mistake on the Busa's!!)
I agree, I just experienced the difference on cold pavement the other day. A massive feel difference once the tires warmed up, especially on that cold day!
Hopefully I'll get a chance to ride and review the H2 at some point this year new year! :). It's a pretty crazy machine from what I've seen and heard.
Stop riding it high rev… if you cruise ride 2500rpm specially if you r going slow. It got 100nm at 2750rpm
Very very good, but with this speed I go less than 3000 rpm... With more than 7000 it becomes a rocket 🚀🚀🚀
You are definitely right! Above 7000 the busa is a wild machine! At lower rpm it really is a relatively tame cruise, especially considering what it is.

I haven't had the chance to try Q5 tires, but I have had Q3+ tires on an R1 and they were pretty great, very confidence inspiring in the corners :).
The Q5's are more sport/track oriented right?

Hey guys, I just recently purchased one.. It's a 05 model, after a changed sparks oil and filters, new coolant.. Taken for a test drive and realized white smoke out from exhaust (oem) not all the time... . Bike strats and runs fine got 25k miles... What can be the problem? Please any advice 🙏
Hmm could be a couple different things. White smoke on start up could be some oil getting past the rings and burning up upon start up. Doesn't necessarily mean it's huge deal. Does the exhaust smell rich, or like coolant at all? Any weird smells?
@@PastorMattMoto át starts no smoke at all.. Only when accelerat but not all the time... Smells oil burn in neutral...
@cbrhurrican hmm is it burning oil between oil changes? Do you need to add oil after a few hundred miles?

it's a sports tourer, so you cant compare it to a sports bike that where the comparison ends.
Thanks for checking out the video! They do have alot of similarities though, Sports Bikes and Sport Touring machines usually both have Inline 4 motors, Inverted Forks, and sporty leanings. It's just that full on sport bikes handle more quickly, because of the reduced weight, they flick over much quicker. But these big machines have a bunch of power, so I guess it depends on what you want to do with the machine :).
So if the bike is fuel injected why does it have a choke lever still?
Its a legacy thing. All it does is give you a fast idle. The injection system adds the extra fuel. Early bike injection .

@SoddingaboutSi is right, it's an early injection thing that Suzuki did. I usually find it pretty unnecessary, but hey if it's a really cold morning it might be nice to have :)
One thing they idle sorta low when cold. The top end has slight oiling issues, more specifically that rattley timing chain. At high idle the top end gets oiled they way it should until warm and the idle gets back up to 1100 0r 1200 rpm where it should be.
Think your riding 60% throttle when trying to go fast. Open it up 2nd gear and your needle is fly speed records. It can go 180km/h 2nd gear.
You can go full throttle 2nd gear from low rpm, so you have a smooth speed build up. If you role at 7000rpm and open it up it’s blast!!
Then fly it from 7000-10.000 rpm 2nd gear
It can make a lot of people scared.
Yeah the Busa is absolutely out of hand when you open it up! I would say its a bit smoother than the ZX14 though. I mean the way it rides as well, with its suspension.

You are correct the I believe the official title is GSX1300R, most people just call it a Hayabusa though :)
@@PastorMattMoto Yes your right. I have a 99 model and your spot on with the tyre pressure statment. It seems all heavy bikes are super sensitive to tyre pressures. I also have a Honda Blackbird that is senstive to any scange to pressures.

That's true, but to get into the power band of 6th gear, you have to be well over 3 digits on the speedo :0
These bikes are infamous for having 2nd gear issues in the used market. They live there probably 75 to 80% of the time. 2nd gear will take you from 0 to north of 120 so a lot of people just hang out there. Bad practice but I think most just forget to click it into 3rd or 4th when cruising especially if they are used to a high revving sportbike.

it's not a GSXR......it's a GSX1300R....i also have a pretty stock 2001....braided lines are a big help. plus some bar raisers

Yeah if I was planning on doing longer trips, I think I would install the set of heli-bars that I have here. Stock, it's totally fine for Rides around the area though :)

Fk its hard to watch… shift it!!! Stop cruising at 5000rpm, your not gonna use the power so learn to push your bike at lower revs.
Lugging around is worse on it than letting it breathe some... coming from a guy that dailys one..
I understand that riding at lower RPM will conserve fuel, so you are right. In these videos though, I'm not really doing any distance travel, so I'm not too concerned about MPG. I'm mostly hitting backroads, so I'll usually be in 2nd or 3rd, so I can stay somewhat near to the powerband. 5,000 or 6,000 rpm isn't going to damage an engine like this, it's not even halfway to the redline.
