Black Canon AE-1's are just better I don't know what to tell you. That is a subjective truth though so don't bother with my rambling if you prefer the grey but do leave a like and a comment!
Each to their own. It is great that there were so many competitive models back in the day. I feel many people fall into the trap of - Canon and Nikon dominate the market now, therefore they must have been the 'go-to' models back in the day. Personally, I feel Pentax and Minolta were not only more affordable, but were leagues apart from the likes of Canon and Nikon form the 60s all the way up to the early 90s.
How would one fix the problem that occurs if the aperture squeal isnt fixed? I think i got one in that condition and just cut of the aperture lever so i have to use it manual now, since the automatic function doesnt work anymore ;D
I am curious about the "aperture squeak" issue you mention in passing here. I only heard about the shutter squeak on these cameras. Is this common, and is this also fixable by oiling some parts of the mechanism?
The black one looks mint😮

I was going to ask the same question xDD. Mine still works, but if its just putting some lubricant i'd rather be safe than sorry further down the line
I wish that ISO selector was on the A-1 which is kinda clunky to use
