- Check out this 240Z build (with V8) where the body was professionally restored before adding back modern performance enhancements. A performance tribute to the original hot rod 240Z’s of the late 1970s (the Scarabs) this 240Z benefits from later technology making it a thrilling “drivers 240Z”. Wait till you hear the roar of this 240Z exhaust sound!

For my money, the Z cars were one of the best looking body styles ever built. And the LS is just the cherry on top.
agreed 👍😎
The 240Z and the Jaguar E type are two of the most beautiful cars ever built. Nice that they didn't change the lines on this classic beauty.
Wow. Very well done.
I lived in Los Gatos, CA throughout the 70's and Campbell was the next town. Brian Morrow and his Scarab Motorcars was putting the 327 and 350 Scarab Z cars out at the time. Every once in awhile they would test drive finished cars and everyone would just stop and stare.
The best looking 240Z on TH-cam.
When I was a young man in the 1970s my best friend ordered an info packet on the Scarab. We used to drool over that for hours. Always wanted a real Scarab, made from Scarab, not a kit. I would settle though for a clean 240/260 Z although in todays world I would probably shoehorn a JDM Supra motor onto it instead of the V-8.
I had a Corvette for a while and really liked it. Then I bought a 300 z and I gotta tell you that 300 was so tight and responsive. It was fast it was comfortable it was without the best car I have ever owned. Looking back at the 240 and 280 it's blows me away.
Wow, I had a ' 78 280Z back in the day, really miss that car. This 240Z is insane!
Personally, I love the strait inline 6. This V8 is awesome. But if I could chose, I’d take the 6.
Yes fully agree it seems like the american answer to restomoding is chuck a v8 into everything, while v8 are great I believe putting and matching the right engine to the particular car,in this case a preformce straight six,
Japan has many of the best inline & V6 engines ever made to choose from. It’s very impressive, but it loses something without a Datsun/Nissan or Japanese designed engine.
Yes one of the best things about that car is how light and nimble it is throwing a heavy V8 will get you going fast straight down the road but for me the joy is in the curve
@@povertybay3260the LS is lighter than the original L-6, and its weight is closer to the centerline of the car so it will actually handle better. I agree with keeping a Japanese power plant, but the argument of the V8 being heavy and upsetting the handling is incorrect
I have LOVED the 240 zed since I was a young teenager. This one in particular will take over my dreams from now on though! All I can say is wow, beautiful job guys.
GREAT presentation! Horsepower is the student, torque is the teacher - lol. That exhaust talks nicely and it shows that single exhaust makes no difference except making it more of a sleeper. Beside the drivability of this car, it's downright gorgeous! I grew up in the Scarab era and today's tech is such an improvement. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you SB
Fantastic work.
Great video and finished car, as a former owner of 280,300,350,370 Z cars and current owner of a Ford Mustang GT 5.0 2019 I would love to own one of these converted cars. This car I bet is a sheer joy to drive with the power train you have put in it. Keep up the good work.
Love that car. Great build; fantastic sound; useable power. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, exactly - usable power
Fantastic car, absolutely love your work!!! Keep up the greatness!!!
Much appreciated
Would love to see this car come back with its retro styling.
My wife and I own many classic cars..including a 1974 260z in need of some work...its at the shop now and appears to run despite sitting for about 12 years. Although I have a sbc at the ready, If the drivetrain checks out we'd leave it be except for restoration of the interior, paint, suspension, wheels and a good sounding exhaust. My late father in law bought it over 12 years ago and sold it to us...I've been salivating over it since the first time I saw it...going to take some $$$ and hard work but if it looks half as good as this 240 that be great. Very clean and timeless car.
this is my taste exactly . what a tasteful build .this is how to build a hot rod/customize a early z car .
… what a beautiful car & awesome build … thx for sharing love your channel !! 👍🏼😎🔥😍💪🏼
Love to hear that, makes it worth it
I love everything about this car.
Beautiful Z. But honestly. Anyone can pull HP/TQ #’s like that from an LS. Take an L28 and pull 350HP. Now that’s righteous.
yea, you got a point there
13.1 compression. 60 thou over. Nissan diesel crank. Rods to match. BIG cam, lots of overlap. The list goes on. 330hp at the fly. No hand grenade.
L28 block with diesel crank punched out to 3.1l, Electromotive Tec2, garret T04, oringd block. 25psi boost. 412hp and 450ftlbs at 7k to the wheels. Back in 99.
What’s the horsepower per dollar? Not everyone can afford to build a Z engine.
Whoa, we didn’t ask you that.
Lovely, reminds me of the old Scarab conversions... I'm on my third First Gen Z... What can I say, I'm addicted!
I really love your car!!!!! I like the wide body but this is wonderful!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful car
Lovely presentation, lovely car, excellent job. Hats off Sir.
Thank you Jack
Clean build!
That's one beautiful Z
one of my two dream cars of my life but the S30Z with L28Kai engine 🔥
I had a 240Z and it was a really fun car and handled really well too. I was thinking of putting a V8 in it. There was a company that would do it for you. They called it the Scarab.
I abandonded the idea when I realized it would handle like a shopping cart full of bowling balls.
Love the original lines.
agree on that
Sounds like the soundtrack from Bullitt! Awesome.
Sweet ride ! Gorgeous colour , proper rearend. Perfect restorod for adaily driver. I would like to see a 240Z with a LC9 all aluminum block 5.3 L .
I had a silver 240z years ago…same wheels as yours. I kept the L series engine but did some work to the head, extractors, fly wheel and suspension. Don’t under estimate what you can do with an L series.
I know this to be true....and agree
I get it, and the builder did a great job, especially the exterior. I’d take the exact same exterior with a late model turbo 6 and wire wheels with knock off spinners. Would make a great JDM James Bond car.
Wish I still had my 280.
Stunning! I'd take that Hot Rod over just about anything out there now! I had a stock 280z, was may ATF car.
Finally a man that understands how to let the car do the talking during the test drive. TAKE NOTES GEN Z
ah, thank you Sir
I came to the comments to say this. without the constant babbling we can hear and feel the characteristics! Great car and review!@@QualityClassics
Amazing
That’s my favorite car and one day hopefully I have one just like that
I hope you do, really I do
Amazing! I’m jealous
Ya'll must have done some SERIOUS work to the suspension on this thing.
My first car was a '78 280Z. I loved that thing..straight 6...zippy for its day.
But good Lord, once you got off straight line and started turning curves..that thing leaned and rolled pretty badly.
I didn't see any of that in this 240Z with the V8....more weight and power added.....so kudos for whatever you did on the suspension on the "Beast".
:)
Amazing automobile!
Had a mx-5 that always felt fast - low to the ground like a video game!
that thing sounds so cool pretty car
it is mechanical music for sure
Awesome
That Datsun is perfection on wheels .. amazing job and great colour choice
Sick
thanks
thanks for keeping clean it's A SEXY BEAST
ficou lindo
Those wheels look great. Are those Watanabes or replicas? I've not seen them shiny like that
The perfect car
Thank you ..... it was well executed for sure.
wow ... outta dis worl'
thanks Dino
Nice build! Just to clarify- is this an old style Chevy 350 engine that has had a modern Holley EFI system swapped in it? Or is it an LS with the Holley mod?
Great video, did you know Intellitronix (gauge manufacturer) makes direct fit replacement gauges for the 240,260 & 280 Z
Did not know this, but good to know thanks
Absolutely stunning car. Z-Ya later tater!
Yea, love the plate and the car
Oh my...
Can you give me advice on the powertrain ?
Which t56 is that ? The magnum?
My plan was to do something similar
Not sure, I think he said tr6060. I've had that in a car and it's a slow truck box. Beefy though.
For my money I'd try the new Tremec TKX 5-speed. Not driven one yet but the specs are impressive.
It is beautiful, but please re-glue the rear strut vinyl.
Scientifically speaking, what real matters is the Torque, and not the Horse Power, as most people think.
Nice
yes, thanks
Don't forget the VH 41,45 ,OR the VK56 engines, all true Nissans
i call that car angel when you want it to be or it can be a demon lol love this car
right
What a nice "Camaro !"
Very. Ice build, did the firewall get warm.
What a wonderful car & video! This is my dream car. I owned a very nice, low miles 280ZX turbo for several years, loved it, but my heart longed for the 240, 260 or 280 Z body. A performance mod is a big "probably" when I buy. Do you occasionally have performance mod 240s, 260s, or 280 Zs for sale? I see a few Scarabs for sale now, but I think you're in the DFW area & I'm in Grapevine. Maybe we can make something happen? Whether I buy an original & modify it or buy an already-converted car. Let me know, unless I've already contacted you through other ways. I would also be interested in modifying or restoring a car myself. Would you offer mentorship in such a situation, or allow me to help extensively? I'm an aircraft mechanic, but I can find my way around a car if I decided to work on it/restore it.
Best way to communicate is through my site MyRod.com
In its era this 240z was quicker to 62 than a Porsche 911,a 308 Ferrari and, surprisingly,a Lamborghini Miura. How's that for a set of scalps ?
i am really interested in the wheels and rims information. i just looked through your website and did not see any extra info on that package. i really like the look of these and how they compliment the body.
email me at my site, I will see if I can find the details
I'm curious about that too. Not much room in 240z fender wells, and I would like to fit as much rubber in there as possible without rubbing. The pictures of the underside show standard width springs which make it more difficult to fit wider tires compared to slender aftermarket coilovers which give you another inch or so of clearance. Would need to know the proper wheel size, backspacing or offset, Tire size/profile, etc. to duplicate what was done. would like that information as well.
@@briananderson9489 I did email. They said the car is in storage atm but they would make an effort to get me the info
They look like Rota RB’s which are a knockoff of the original Panasport wheels. Other similar designs are Konig Rewinds or Wantanabes.
I went with Panasports, they look nice and retro-race.
Gorgeous car… what sort of money is a finished car like this?
That colour just pops. Really shows off the beautiful curves. But where were the twisties? I waited twenty minutes.
Slow winding curves all though the initial test drive
L28 all the way!!
With so few left, I’d go worked straight six.
What brand seats are those?
Beautiful restomod! The one tiny thing I would do differently is I would put the Fairlady Z fender mounted mirrors. I just love that look!
Great car, amazing "restauration". To me, the 240Z is one of the most beautiful car in history. Not so fan of that V8 sound in such a tiny car.
Is it for sale and if so what’s asking price
What the heck is up with that front differential mount? That's the strangest I've ever seen. Looks like it's solidly mounted to the crossmember, in addition to the rubber mount? I can't figure that one out.
It is absolutely a beautiful car, but I don't like the v8's that people put in them... Regardless of how cool they are... Our of like something like that when I was probably 15 or 20... But I would much rather have a built 2.4... or 2.6, or 2.8.. respectively... 6-speed, yes.... Nonetheless, it's a great car.
What are those wheels called???
Any chance you have the opportunity to ID the rims on this z?
I believe those are Panna sport Wheels.
@@davidbrown7127 looking at them now the are universal wheels. While the fit and look good I really want single drilled wheels
280的呢?
I know what I want if I ever win the lottery
who says z's dont look like hotrods the for sure do
Excellent. But I’d put a smaller 8 in it, like from an Audi rs4, 244 c.i., 420hp, aluminum, quieter.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Beautiful, and not a stupid rabid bunny flare in sight.
580Z
Hot Rods originally were All American cars
Those were the days & Real Hot Rods & Real ALL AMERICAN.🇺🇲
this is true
I want it! How much?
More beautiful than Nissan Z
A TT Titan engine would put a lot more MOD in the Resto and still be Nissan/Datsun.
américan motors ?
✌👍
Can I please get the color code?
Swap to Skyline motor for a pink slip racer.
I like the car, but how does it really handle? How does it stop? Fast is one thing, but fast without control or brakes is dangerous. And you mention it would be great on a track, but have you ever driven on a track? Your driving (hands at odd places on the wheel, and driving with one hand always on the shifter) are bad habits that track instructors work on for beginner track drivers.
Nice build but the stance is off. Tires need to be tucked in more and it should be lower.
Nice car but the "Z" emblems are upside down. This will let water run inside the cabin!
thanks, did not catch that
if the car is half as light, who need torque go full high lift cam . single plane manifold, shorty head fly wheel nitro and high 377 gearing. it be like the new vette 1 gear 60 mph
Car needs to be lowered an inch to close out the tire to fender gaps and dechromed imo.
bought a fire bird in 1978 instead of a 280-- kicking myself
