    I think it’s very sweet that in Dunmer weddings you gain an ancestral connection to your spouse’s family. It’s an extremely welcoming thing from a culture that isn’t viewed as being very warm and accepting

      Fun fact: that kind of spiritual connection has been a thing in human history, mainly in ancient Greece and Rome and some of those traditions (such as the husband carrying his bride over the threshold of his house; the idea was he was carrying her to his family's shrine so she can bond with his ancestors) somewhat persist to this day

    The Riften marriage feels like an IRL courtroom marriage where the two involved just want to get it in legal writing and be done with it as fast as possible.

    • @haberak3310
      @haberak3310 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Definitely. It feels as secular as you can get in a society with a legally recognized religion and keeps cultural traditions to a minimum, with only a few family and friends, no more than can fit on a few pews. All of that I think is a shame, but it makes sense as it would be a pain to program in all of the different cultural weddings. Still, I hope there is a mod that gives a proper marriage overhaul

    ngl, the Orc marriage/courtship ritual sounds really sweet; I mean, if I was an orc lass, I would be infatuated with someone if they recited a violent love poem and got me pristine wines and cheeses.

    Actually quite like the Nord version, you wear an amulet and show that you're available, if someone likes you they can speak to you and you either say yay or nay. The entire are they single/do they like me state that takes a lot of time and is tbh exhausting can be eliminated and I like that a lot.

    Shor son of Shor pretty much confirms that War-Wife/Bed-Wife are indeed titles for a wife. Basing it on the real life Norse culture, it wouldn't be strange for the Nords or at least early Nords/Atmorans to have multiple wives and or concubines.

    I suspect that orcs are strict because most of the tribe would be siblings, right? Sounds like a sensible way to prevent incest and the unfortunate consequences of it being born unwell.

    it's not as violent as i would've liked, but i tried my hand at an orc courting poem!
    great maid of malacath, fair kin to sworn oath,
    the path of my sword carves your name.
    in vein-painted armor i bow down before you,
    offering the fruits of my strength to the same.
    i hunted great beasts, from plain, wood, and fen,
    and fierce were our contests of might.
    yet swift as i slew them, i craved for the thrill
    of your blade by my own in the fight.
    no sabrecat's fang could rival your tusks,
    no troll's blows could outmatch your swing.
    and when draws your axe the chaurus heart's-blood,
    ne'er does your tough skin suffer its sting.
    i bow now before you with trophies of battle,
    but this warrior could have no greater pride,
    if, great maid of malacath, fair kin to sworn oath,
    you'd hunt with me, be the axe by my side.

    The Dunmar practices sound similar to the practices of how I inherit the religious practices and customs of my family, particularly through ones ancestors. Santeria runs deep on my mother side, so certain traits from ones grandparents and great-grandparents can skip a generation or two and show up in the grandkids or great-grandkids... I think that would be similar to how the Dark Elves and half-race children would be as well... not just weaken but can and would skip altogether from one generation and show up the abilities in the next or two. I know I get visions through dreams and day-dreams. Anyways I would properly be very familiar to their customs more so than the other races in Tameriel.
    The Orcs remind me so much of Klingon fraction in Star Trek. Both being war-like.

    • @Distortion23
      @Distortion23 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      There isn’t any connection between the Last Dragonborn and Shor. It is a theory spread around as fact by people who do too little research.
      Shor is in Sovmgarde while the Last Dragonborn is there. The Heroes of Sovngarde outright say that his throne seems empty due to mortals not be able to look upon him properly.
      Tsun does not know the Last Dragonborn and will explicitly state that Shor does not know them if they introduce themselves as Listener or Nightingale. Tsun will even state that the Last Dragonborn’s soul belongs to Nocturnal if they are a Nightingale, the idea that Akatosh even has a claim, let alone the strongest claim is false and you can even meet other Dragonborns in Sovngarde, further proving Alatosh has no claim. Tsun is a Nordic God like Shor and Alduin, as well as being Shor’s Shield-Thane.
      The Ghost of Old Hroldan mistakes the Last Dragonborn for Hjalti/Tiber because both have dragon souls and dragon blood.

    In ESO Valinka Stoneheaver (a Miner Hireling) says: "In order to settle a debt my foolish brothers have accumulated in my absence, they decided to marry me to old Thorgrim Wartnose. They think to sell me as so much cattle? Well, think again! And Olgath gave the amulet of Mara to me! My brother! It wasn't even presented properly-not that it matters, anyway."
    So the "Amulet thing" is not that modern in Skyrim. Maybe they had other traditions, but since the second era they were pretty much "imperialized".
    And, also, it seems the amulet is used like a wedding ring, idk...
    Anyways, thanks for this video (and all of your videos). I'm trying to make an rpg campaign based in Elder Scrolls, and you are my unofficial lore master ;)

      Good question. There doesnt seem to be an exact lore explanation because on one hand, the chief is the ultimate authority so if he/she wanted it, nobody could stop them. But on the other hand the chief is the only one allowed to have partners and children and thus the strongholds new population depends on him/her. Actually Nordic tradition doesnt even need officialized marriage. In Oblivion you can meet a Nordic couple who laugh at the Imperials for officializing marriages, saying that they "married" the traditional Nordic way, as in they just got together without any rituals or anything. Also, in traditional Nordic religion, Shor had two wives at once, which suggests that polygamy is/ was allowed to some degree.
