I love the main character in this. rather than being overpowered or a pushover who just gets handed power by luck, he gets where he is by hard work despite the constant hurdles placed in his way. Plus Stella isn't the usual Tsundere who hates his guts but rather quickly starts respecting him despite his low ranking. Its a pretty unique take I haven't seen in too many other similar Anime.

I thought the same but there's an explanation: The 4th secret sword Shinkiro creates afterimages/mirages which is how his arm appears fixed as he dashes as he readied his final strike
Nah that was simply an error by the animators... Shinkirou works by using footwork to send afterimages and Ikki was standing still. He was not using it in that scene.
One of the best characters. I also love that voice actress. The voice change when she was on the rooftop was definitely something when she showed her true intentions
you mean ikki. Watch the last few episodes of the series. He suffer greatly when they lock him up and force him to fight without rest, food or water. A normal person would have died. His evil family manipulate the rules. It a long story.
It's funny how in almost every anime the "good" character only needs to do one hit and all enemies will fall down and matches will end, no matter how severe the main character got hurt or how often and how long he fell down etc.

He got injured and lets say his remaining stamina got reduced by half, or even down to a quarter, leaving 12 for the whole day and only 0.5 per hour. However, when he uses Itto Shura, he uses what's left of the daily limit in 1 minute so his stamina usage is 12*60=720. So even though he's weakened to, in this example, a quarter of his strength, he's still 360 times stronger than when he started the fight.
+Etherion I know that it's not a game, I used numbers because it's much easier to explain the concept of his ability like that. And I stay by what I said, because that's what injuries do, they drain a person's strength until the person doesn't have enough to survive. Yes, this is an overly simplified outlook and there are plenty more variables that need to be taken into consideration, but that's how I see the general concept of injuries. It was basically like an adrenaline rush - any creature can display increased strength, even if it'll die right after.
Although Ikki used his "Perfect Vision" during the battle to predict where the hidden air blades were, it wasn't revealed in the show that Ikki also used Mana emission, which basically is the noob-level of Itto Shura and only doubles his physical attributes since it has a limit of how much energy it can consume. This may also be the reason why Ayase had such a hard time to slice Ikki with her air blades (He's already an A-rank in terms of physical strength)

The reason I watched this back then was cause of Ecchi, but I finished the series cause of the story and sword fights. Especially stella's scream in Ikki's first official match.
I think her sword ability is up there with the coolest I've seen in any anime. I really wish they featured her more. She's definitely not that strong but the aesthetic looks really dope

Because she gets frequent blood transfusions. For you to DIE of blood loss isn't an immediate thing. You go into a form of shock first and your body then gradually shuts down. Because she's at the school all the time she has access to quick medical care. They literally explain this in like Episode 2 or so.

All of Ikki's wounds came from the traps or Ayase's special "open up a small wound" ability. The minute it went to close range, she couldn't land a scratch on him.
In terms of sword versus guns, the thing a sword can win against is a pistol... but that is not something a normal person can accomplish. In order to win, the sword user would need to know where the gun user is aiming AT ALL TIMES. In addition, they need to have the speed to move their weapon accordance to where the gunman is aiming (and the strength to deflect). It's too unrealistic for people to have this. The pistol is the weakest of all the guns... swords don't stand a chance... though it could be interesting to see how a Buster Sword would work since it could be big enough to block bullets. As much as I like swords, they just aren't viable anymore. (Though I still rather a sword than a gun any day... but the bow is where it is at.)
Ace A buster sword may be wider but it's a lot more slower on the offensive and there's only so much defence you can actually get from a sword vs gun The only way a swordsman can win is by getting a cheap shot from behind

After his fight with Stella, he reaches the peak of his strength and shatters the "chains" that are keeping him from getting any stronger, effectively entering what is known as Desperado Mode. Those who possess Desperado Mode have shattered the chains of fate that holds them back, allowing them to increase their mana capacity at an unbound rate at the cost of slowly abandoning their humanity and becoming more demonlike. Those who have achieved said form are also immune to fate type Noble Arts like Nameless Glory.
I'm just gonna say that, if we're not counting magic powers into the equation. In terms of skills, and physical abilities Ikki is an A rank, maybe even on the verge of becoming an S rank after stealing the techniques from the strongest swords woman, and breaking the chains of fate in the novels
I dont understand the protagonist branded as weakest while he defeats everyone by squeezing all he have. Where is the logic of being weakest when ur enemy drops first.
His ability scores on the tests are so low, that he is not allowed to take any real classes. He is considered the weakest because he actually is the weakest magic knight to ever exist. He admits this himself. His noble art, Itto Shura, is the only reason he is able to win fights against stronger opponents. Itto Shura is a magical ability that grants him absolute control over his entire body, allowing him to consume all of his strength, stamina, and magical power within a limited amount of time. His entire existence is only powerful enough to defeat any opponent if it is consumed within the span of a minute.
Sherwin Yu He scored lowest when it comes to magic so it no doubt left him unqualified to enlist as a true knight (military). Yes he has the potential to neutralize even kill his enemy, but there's plenty of others who can do far more damage. He is like a sniper compared to others who have the potential of a nuke. Yes he's dangerous for a single target, but he probably won't be in the front lines as a tank , maybe he'd fit as an undercover assassin.

It was doing very poorly when it started for years, and when the anime came, the sales did boost, but now it’s not even on any list when it concerns sales. I like the implication that if Ayase was at her best (i.e. not ignoring her training, being distracted etc) she would probably have kicked his a**. Yes he's the better swordsman, but at her best she can at least keep up with him to a degree, and she isn't limited to using her Noble Art once every 3 days. I think if this had been a fair fight with both of them at their peak, he would have won, but only by using Ittou Shura.

She was only able to cheat in that instance. Hizume's ability is still exceptionally powerful without setting the cut-traps provided you can actually land a hit. Landing a cut on someone and being able to immediately rip it open is lethal if it hits an organ or an artery.
I don't understand how you can loose with such a power and WHILE CHEATING, with this power you could litteraly miss every attack but the hitbox would still be wherever you slashed and be triggered on command so the more you miss, the deadlier the arena is

Because she gets frequent blood transfusions. For you to DIE of blood loss isn't an immediate thing. You go into a form of shock first and your body then gradually shuts down. Because she's at the school all the time she has access to quick medical care. They literally explain this in like Episode 2 or so.

All of Ikki's wounds came from the traps or Ayase's special "open up a small wound" ability. The minute it went to close range, she couldn't land a scratch on him.

In terms of sword versus guns, the thing a sword can win against is a pistol... but that is not something a normal person can accomplish. In order to win, the sword user would need to know where the gun user is aiming AT ALL TIMES. In addition, they need to have the speed to move their weapon accordance to where the gunman is aiming (and the strength to deflect). It's too unrealistic for people to have this.
The pistol is the weakest of all the guns... swords don't stand a chance... though it could be interesting to see how a Buster Sword would work since it could be big enough to block bullets.
As much as I like swords, they just aren't viable anymore. (Though I still rather a sword than a gun any day... but the bow is where it is at.)

A buster sword may be wider but it's a lot more slower on the offensive and there's only so much defence you can actually get from a sword vs gun
The only way a swordsman can win is by getting a cheap shot from behind

I'm just gonna say that, if we're not counting magic powers into the equation. In terms of skills, and physical abilities Ikki is an A rank, maybe even on the verge of becoming an S rank after stealing the techniques from the strongest swords woman, and breaking the chains of fate in the novels

Itto Shura is a magical ability that grants him absolute control over his entire body, allowing him to consume all of his strength, stamina, and magical power within a limited amount of time. His entire existence is only powerful enough to defeat any opponent if it is consumed within the span of a minute.
To be fair, I would say Ikki is strong when in tournament fights. But in real actual combat he wouldn't be as strong.
Sherwin Yu He scored lowest when it comes to magic so it no doubt left him unqualified to enlist as a true knight (military). Yes he has the potential to neutralize even kill his enemy, but there's plenty of others who can do far more damage. He is like a sniper compared to others who have the potential of a nuke. Yes he's dangerous for a single target, but he probably won't be in the front lines as a tank , maybe he'd fit as an undercover assassin.
One of reason why I like this anime is the mc has no power ups , just a real skills and strategies .

It was doing very poorly when it started for years, and when the anime came, the sales did boost, but now it’s not even on any list when it concerns sales. And no offense, but most people, in the West and East thought this show was mediocre, and in general, people and the studios don’t give a rats ass about this show.

Yes he's the better swordsman, but at her best she can at least keep up with him to a degree, and she isn't limited to using her Noble Art once every 3 days.
I think if this had been a fair fight with both of them at their peak, he would have won, but only by using Ittou Shura.

She was only able to cheat in that instance. Hizume's ability is still exceptionally powerful without setting the cut-traps provided you can actually land a hit. Landing a cut on someone and being able to immediately rip it open is lethal if it hits an organ or an artery.

I don't understand how you can loose with such a power and WHILE CHEATING, with this power you could litteraly miss every attack but the hitbox would still be wherever you slashed and be triggered on command so the more you miss, the deadlier the arena is
