How to Audition For Musical Theater

  • When it comes to musical theater auditions, you need to come prepared. For you, this can include having your book ready, knowing your sides, and being prepared to dance and/or sing at a moment's notice. Ask acting coach and Backstage Expert Philip Hernández, however, and he'll tell you that there's one more thing that you need to do in order to wow any casting director you ever audition for: be prepared to tell a story!

    So true, ask yourself, what would you do in this situation. They say acting is about listening and reacting and seeing how you can bring YOU into the scene, or if you can't draw from experience (emotional experience), that's where imagination comes into play...

      very true and good point here. I find that asking myself what would this character think or feel in the moment often works well to discover my point of view for a song.
