my biggest pet peeve when i sit in auditions is when people walk in literally shaking with their head down. i have anxiety so i understand how hard it can be to get over those ticks but oh my god, please, walk in with your head up. i always try to walk in with a big smile and give out an air of confidence so that they can tell i know what the fuck i’m doing.
Thanks for this, I’m only 14 and my dream job is to be a musical theatre actress. I am watching these videos that say “what songs you should or shouldn’t audition with” or “what to do at an audition” and nobody has once mentioned sheet paper, slating, or anything about real steps to take when audition but you have, so thank you !! I will be sure to use this in the future if I get any opportunities!!
This video could not come any later. I JUST auditioned for a musical on Tuesday. I found out today whether I'd be the character I wanted....I Got It!!!!!!!
Another tip... don't bring in sheet music that is really difficult or in strange keys. You may not be lucky enough to have a great accompanist. They can follow YOU better if the music is familiar and/or easy to read. And yes... ALWAYS thank the accompanist!
Also not on 20 loose sheets of floppy paper with a 32-bar cut in the middle and a complicated D.S al coda.. Oh, and could you just transpose it up an augmented fourth?
Perfect timing as always, I just got cast as Bill Sikes in a production of Oliver, and wish you were our music director/audition pianist. CHRIST we need help!!!
I once went to an audition with a karaoke track because I couldn’t find free sheet music. The accompanist refused to let me audition unless I had sheet music but luckily he actually knew the song I was singing so I was able to audition
As a pianist for auditions, are people supposed to do a 5-6-7-8 (or whatever goes with the time signature) before they sing so you start with them or should they just start singing and you follow along? I’ve only been to one audition that had a pianist so I’ve never been sure.
Good question... I usually go over with them what their intro will be so they understand. OR I will audibly count them in. Sometimes I give them a pitch and just follow what they are going to do. It depends on the song really and their cut.
You have some really solid audition advice (though you give it in an arrogant and condescending way) and I have nothing against swearing (I do it too), but why do you have to say f*ck so many times...especially when this video could help very young people who are aspiring actors and singers. It doesn't make you seem cool. Sure it's funny on your review videos but you could have withheld the language for one video.
It’s just his personality. And honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made this video because he was a little peeved about how people behave in auditions, because this video contained more swearing and anger than usual. I understand if it’s not your cup of tea, but Kevin does know what he’s doing- there’s a reason he has a large following.
@@carolinedavis4723 Yes, people should follow etiquette at auditions, but why not turn it into something productive then instead of raging out...then actors, singers, coaches, teachers, and directors would probably be more inclined to post and share it on other platforms, leading to more subscribers. Which leads me to my next point, he doesn't have a large following. It'd probably be much larger but I'm sure people find his swearing and condescending personality too unbearable to be able to take the positive things you can get out of his videos.
I always worry about how loud the piano might be. I remember going to one place and the acoustics made the music so loud and echoey @_@ Also, I'm used to singing with a microphone. I know there are musicals that are miced, but I've never been to a musical audition where you had a microphone. Granted, I've only ever been to 4. ^^;
Gezondheid! (This is what we say in Dutch when someone sneezes)
In German it's Gesundheit😂
Brilliant presentation...mad as a hatter and all the better for it. Great info well delivered.
A big thing I also hate is when people snap or clap the tempo for the accompanist! Just sing a bit for them!
Yay, it's time for Kevin to yell at me for like 10 minutes

Hey Kevin! You’re hilarious and really fun to watch! 😂 Love how you tell the story!!
Hey, thanks!
Listen to Moulin Rouge please:) I have a strong feeling you won’t like it.
“thank you for playing, you sucked, give me my fuckin music, and im outta here”
oh my god i audition in 3 hours thank you
omg why would you say what key it's in to the pianist you're handing the SHEET MUSIC to? It's written there...
Just got through two auditions and I got Scuttle (Little Mermaid), and Mr. Wormwood (Matilda) I’m pretty happy :)
That's amazing!
Congrats !! 😱

by far the best intro ever. Also for beginners in high school musical theatre courses, do you have to be able to sing at all???

Hey can you let me know what sheet music app you use on your iPad?? :-) :-)

Kevin Lynch okay awesome, thank you so much! ❤️
I have yet to ever pass an audition, i have failed 3 auditions in a row so far and im just so ready to just jump off a cliff
Keep working at it! Persistence is key and the more you practice auditioning the easier it gets.
@@KevinLynchMusic Nope, it doesn’t get easier or better
The timing on this is amazing for me! I have an audition on Tuesday!
Good luck!
Kevin Lynch thank you!!
You make me laugh Kevin
hilarious but so right-on....My pet peeve is when the person sorta sneaks in the room with no energy...my first thought is NO thank you.
Please listen to Lizzie the musical!!
BLESS YOU
THAT was awesome!
Leven telling everyone off! Love it. X

JK K exactly. Why do you have to be so condescending???!?!
@@Ryan-ro5xh Yes! He has good things to say and I'm sure he's had audition experience but he also acts like he's this amazing, seasoned Broadway star.
JK K 100% agreed. It makes it difficult to watch his videos and want to take jis advice!

Is that the Ottoman book of Music for Sight Singing! Looks just like the one I use at school.
How do you confused Ab major and D major????? D IS SHARPSSSS
You really had to post this right after I came from an audition 😂😂😂😂
Jkjkjkjk
MARK YOUR CUTS, PEOPLE!
Soooo weird when people do the handshake haha.
Kevin seems like the kind of person who'll make fun of your facial expressions while he's giving you a handy :p
Haha this video was posted the day AFTER my audition 😂😂
I read the title and just said “you don’t. It’s called favoritism.”
This is like auditioning 101 it's sad that he still has to tell people about this 🤦🏿♂️😅
Woah I’m damn early, three minutes in
Was that sneeze planed or just happened. It could be a funny meme. Hahahah. Sneeze... Today we gonna talk about audition.
aesop
Jeez these videos make me nervous...
You r REALLY RUDE!!! But I must confess sometimes I learn a lot from your videos ;)
