    This IS one hell of a value and I prefer the slick/slab sided ARs anyway. I don't know how DPMS provides such and outstanding rifle at such a low cost but I'm glad they do.

    Agreed: The worst thing ( especially in combat) to do with a stoppage is to start hammering on the forward assist.
    Dirty, bent, corroded ammo . . .eject it, get on to good ammo and back into the fight.
    Mr. Eugene Stoner designed the CAR 15 without a forward assist. Those in 'Nam loved it. The Army with it's decision to change the powder caused problems in the M16 and to resolve those the forward assist was added.
    Bottom line, ejecting a bad cartridge is quicker than trying to jam it into a dirty chamber.

    Nice Vid. 16 years earlier I bought the DPMS lo-pro classic with the slab side upper just like the sportical. Other than a bull barrel I think the sportical and the lopro are very similar. Mine has been mostly faultless with exception to the bull barrel gas block coming loose one time. Bull barrel block were not staked. I've run all types of ammo from 223 to 556 from brass to steel and the gun eats everything. I know there are a lot of AR snobs out there and yes some features they point out might be better, might be worse but my "Budget" Lo-Pro Classic is still running strong after 16 years. I'm sure the Sportical will be there too.

    I appreciate your review here and especially the fact that you did a basic field strip. I think all in all this was a good review. Perhaps now that you have likely made some updates and modifications and shot it some, it would be good to do a " Down the road" review and let us know your current thoughts. I have liked and subscribed, well done!
    Update:
    Now I've subscribed I have seen your follow on video. I like the mods you made and I almost bought the exact same foregrip.

    Now I know why many many sicarios down here are seen patrolling with that particular ar 15
    Cause’ it a cheap piece of lead hose, they drilled the sear hole, put the trigger auto sear and, voula, you r ready to spray some contras
    They also use a lot of CA wasr 10/63 with the Korean 75 round drums n Romanian top loading ones

    o had one of those they made great starting platform for builds.. the lack of forward assist or dustcover is only really need for military use ..cause for us civis we are not being shot at so if we need to clear or clean weapon we have the time..good video

    • @muddytigeroutdoors4790
      @muddytigeroutdoors4790  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly my thinking. This rifle is going to be a safe queen for most of its life so I know it'll be fine without a dust cover and I don't plan on getting into any battles anytime soon so no need for a forward assist...lol!

      Thank you Bruce. These are pretty cool rifles because of the customization options and even better if the price is right. I got this one at a shop but I'm sure you can order online. Just like with any firearm purchased online, you still have to pass a background check (unless you have a CCW license) and have it shipped to an FFL dealer.

  • @BernardBorel
    @BernardBorel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is not my first AR but budget wise I couldn’t pass it up and it give me something to do as far as building it the way I want. As it comes out the box very reliable.
    I have already changed the furniture but my plans are, trigger group, BCG only when it bovine necessary (fairly good group as it is now), and then after I wear out the barrel replace it with a treated barrel ( not doing chrome lined). Other than that not going to take it any further. Because of its entry level status, there comes a point of demising returns and at that point I’ll keep this one and buy a next level AR as I find myself interested in competition shooting. Seems like that would be fun. In the mean time, I’m just going to enjoy the hell out of this one.
    The only thing that gets me i some tend to hate because of the fact that this barrel isn’t chrome lined. I’ve listened to many gunsmiths with great credentials (not just the people who are not gunsmiths) and they said that this barrel should be a joy for what I do at this point and they also believe that chrome lined barrels tend to have issues later of flaking. So I just let them hate. I do understand that a better alternative is a treatment (the name slips my mind right now) that actually changes the makeup of the chrome moly and provides great lubricity and it not another layer of material lining the boar. That’s probably the way I’ll go.
    In either case I’m enjoying this “entry” level rifle and by the time I do meat that point of diminishing returns, it’ll no longer be an “entry level” rifle!
    Thanks for highlighting my rifle

    • @TacticalTerry

      RF85 may be the treatment that you were thinking of. From what I understand, it heats ceramic atoms and places them in the metal.

    had mine for almost 8 years I haven't shot it a lot at once after 8 years of ownership I have I think around 10k rounds through it. I have better ARs now but I have no complaints about the dpms as far as reliability, the aluminum gas block is the only thing you need to keep an eye on, you should try not to do mag dumps back to back. other than that its a good budget AR.

    • @muddytigeroutdoors4790
      @muddytigeroutdoors4790  6 ปีที่แล้ว

There's also a cheap spring upgrade you can do to the ejector that grabs the shells after firing. Need more specifics to your problem. Doesn't feed, doesn't eject, doesn't fire?
