Well, your friend gave you a good advice.. Floor Jansen is best known as the Dutch front-woman of symphonic metal band Nightwish from Finland. She participated in the summer of 2019 to "Beste Zangers" TV show in Netherlands. In this show are invited 7 Dutch singers from various genres, and in each week/episode one of them is in the central spot, and other 6 sings songs from his/hers repertoire, or related to his/hers life or activity. In this episode Floor sang "Winner", composed and performed by Tim Akkerman (the curly guy from the couch). Should be a good idea to react to other songs performed by Floor in this show (she had 6 individual performances + 2 duets) . As a smooth introduction to symphonic metal..

It's actually Tim's song, the guy on the couch, he wrote it about his brother who is a wheelchair. No voice in the world Like Floor's, none more versatile. Moves your heart and soul. Check out all of the episodes of her on all 8 of the Beste Zangers shows, all incredible. Then of course on to Nightwish, she is the queen of Symphonic Metal.

Oh dear, you've just scratched the surface. Floor is one of the most versatile singers on the planet. There is a reason why they call her "a Swiss army knife of singing". And as you've already noticed Nightwish army is here. Floor is Dutch powerhouse singer that currently sings with Finnish symphonic metal band called Nightwish. Her live performances are one of the best that you can come around. This was show on the Dutch TV last year, where they have singers from different genres of music, where one singer is in spotlight, and other would sing for them, kind of honoring them, so this was not a competition. As many other said already - Nightwish - Ghost love score live from Wacken 2013 is definitely the must. Yours is an empty hope from 2015 (Wembley or Nightwish cruise). But there is much more. And if you have enough time - from Beste Zangers - Floor + Henk sang Phantom of the Opera. Enjoy :)
Antonio Nešić versatile is the word for her!! Shes amazing. I see why the nightwish army is strong and in full effect, she makes me want to follow her musically to whichever direction she goes, but metal? I know she’s going to kill can’t wait to hear it! You say you don’t know much about music, but you nailed it with your interpretation of this and touched on many of the things that professionals notice about Floor. Her control, her tone quality, her ability to effortlessly switch up different sounds. You may not know much about music, but you clearly recognize what makes for great music. Well done. :)

First of all i like you're reaction. You got it where the song is about.
Don't know if somebody already said this, but the guy (tim) with the beard is the writer of the song, he wrote it for his brother who is since his birth bounded to a wheelchair. And for him he is a winner. Floor took this song, because she thinks he is also a winner. And to be clear this show is not about winners or losers, its more like having fun together, and perform songs outside the comfort zone, or make something of it in their own style. This can be cover an original from the one in the middle point of attention ( the guy with the beard, tim this episode) or something with memories, connections with particulate songs.
Everything from floor jansen from the show is good, there is no doubt for me about that.

These are the best reacts, someone gets pointed to a singer they never heard of, react to it and get blown away by the force that is the suggested singer.
In this case, Floor Jansen the "Valkyrie", singer for Nightwish and one of those rare singers who not only can sing anything and everything, but also happens to have that unique soul-piercing frequency in her voice, that grabs you in ways you're not prepared for.
That is what happened in those first 30 seconds, you did hear an Valkyrie sing, and her name is Floor... :)
She brings tear to the eyes of millions of people, young and old, man and woman alike, ooh so many people get emotional when she sings.
Quick about the show, its not a competition, they are all professional singers, each of them gets a evening they are guest of honor, and the others singers will then sing an original by the honoree, or a song special to the honoree of the evening (can be anything, from a song sang by the mother or grandmother of the honoree, to a hitsong they loved in highschool or something more recent that impressed them, or inspired them.) There are 8 episodes in total, 7 of those are honoring evenings, and the final episode is duets evening, a sort of free for all, they get to sing together and have fun.
There is no drama in the show, just the love for music and singing, and we viewers get to hear their stories, backgrounds and motivations and inspirations.
Its fully family friendly, but not family boring if you get what i mean ;)
This whole season was magic, and you only just scratched a tiny bit of its surface, explore more of the show, you will not regret it :)

Floor herself, by singing other people's songs from many different genres, many of which were outside her own comfort zone, blew everyone away. Sincerity is what makes Floor such a moving singer. She sings and you totally feel how real it is. Tim Akkerman, the curly-haired fellow there who wrote it told everybody he couldn't cry (This song is from his album "Lions Don't Cry"). In the end he slumps smiling and tearily grunting, "Damn it Floor!"

I'm late to your channel; I see that this reaction is four months old now. You showed up on my radar with your Nightwish Storytime reaction (I will post there too). There you mentioned that you'd done previous reactions to Floor, so I wanted to see your first. It is so fun seeing people's first reaction to Floor, and yours did not disappoint. There are three main very common reactions, and you hit all three: 1. "I got goosebumps!"; 2. "She has the voice of an angel."; and 3. "How have I not heard of her (or Nightwish, if a Nightwish video)?" I see that many have filled you in already on Nightwish and other info so I won't go there. Just want to welcome you to the club. Floor Jansen is a very rare talent and it's great seeing your appreciation of her. I also know how hard it is to put into words the effect her singing has on you; it is almost indescribable. I think we may need new adjectives, or maybe all new words for her. Maybe you can figure it out.

If you want try from this "Beste Zangers" program, then her first song there was "Vilja Lied" (she is singing it German...). Only 1 of those other singers knew her well before the show (Tim, to whom she just sing this song). To others she was just tattooed metal vocalist... And then she started to sing, - and rest is history. so there was a bunch of people watching her mouth open, thinking just same what you did now, why I have never heard this woman...
Jukka Helminen versatile is the best word to describe her from what i’ve just learned, the different genres, different languages.. its all so much to take in but i’m definitely ready for it! & wow i didnt even know that.. just proves show should never judge a book by its cover because just WOW, she did that. I honestly cant wait to hear her sing in dutch, and i dont even speak dutch haha i just know its going to great because of her voice alone. Tim Akkerman named the album this song was on "Lions Don't Cry". After she finished this performance, he said he'd have to change the name of the album...because they do when they hear this. If you listen right when she finishes singing, he says "Verdammte, Floor!" ("Dammit, Floor!").
There are sooo many Floor experiences...You should hear her with Nightwish. Check out Wacken 2013 live. Try Everdream, Storytime, etc. You will be blown away.

People should listen to this song every day. Strong lyrics, great vocalist. But then again... Everyone would cry everyday... hahaha!
From what I can tell, a lot of the Scandinavian groups really don't spend much on advertising, and instead put that money into the music. In fact, the host of this show had to google Nightwish's genre, symphonic metal. If you don't feel like tackling a 10 minute video right off the bat, Wish I Had an Angel, Amaranth, and Nemo from Wacken 2013 are the ones that ended up being a bit more mainstream. You can't go wrong with Nightwish though, Tuomas is just insanely talented at writing. :)

Floor has an incredible ability to connect with her audience and convey the emotion of the song she's singing. And to add to that, which is a rare talent in and of itself, she has one of the best voices in music today. I'd recommend any of her performances on Beste Zangers, and obviously her work with Nightwish is phenomenal as well. Ghost Love Score (the Wacken 2013 live version) is a good intro to Nightwish with Floor.

The first song I can think of off the top of my head that shows off Floor's growls would be Yours Is An Empty Hope. There are several versions of the song to be found (take your pick, they are all good, but some recording styles appeal better to different people). She is singing alongside Marco, the bassist for Nightwish. He's also an awesome vocalist on his own but Floor is the one growling! It's astounding to hear! :)

Thiscwas written by Tim , for his brother who has been in a wheel chair most of his life, and complained very little about his disability. Tim calls him a winner.. Floor also sings Shallow, a song done by Lady Gaga. You may want to see her sing phantom of the opera with Henke Port. Her opera voice. Then watch her sing with Nightwish for the contrast of her voice.
I recommend all her other Beste Zangers performances. Check out Bless the Child, from the Wacken 2013 Nightwish performance, and "Your is and empty hope", from the cruise ship performance.

Start with beste zangers. Then its up to you howt o start into Nightwish, they are almost as versatile in their music as Floor is in singing. From pop-influence to folk, epic symphonic pieces and really metal. How do you want to start ??? ;-))

I think im going to start with baste zangers as you suggested & wow i didnt know that i thought it was just straight up metal i might just do it all haha, only cause i really want to get a feel for all the types of music they make.
