You go up the side of a mountain in Chaing Mai and there are little kids standing all day in Northern costume to get money for mum and dad who are laying on a bamboo mat drinking beer telling their kids to approach the farrangs. Down on the islands, in the middle of Bangkok - child labour where kids have to work before they even make 10yo's If you keep giving them money - mum and dad will keep getting their gorgeous kids to beg
Stunning Video, Great Drone Shots The villages are indeed beautiful. Harriet and I totally agree that you don't want to turn little children into beggars. They desire better. You did the right thing by not giving the little girls money for nothing. Thank you, Todd, for a wonderful Tour, Sending you all the best🙏🙏 from Jim and Harriet . Richmond, Va.
Hello Todd and Neenee, happy to see you exploring new villages on your trek, and this hidden gem of a village is just that, so shhh, don't tell anyone else or it'll get overrun with tourists and ruin the vibe of such an undiscovered place to enjoy the true village life, culture, and the peoples living there. And yes, you hit the nail on the head about tourists giving money to children or people who simply 'beg' or put their hand out for money. So many non-locals, tourists, and so many other vloggers I watch, are constantly giving money to those who beg for money, and I want to dope slap them to 'stop' doing that, like you said, otherwise, they become used to 'dumb' tourists giving them money for doing nothing so they are taught to 'beg' all tourists with a handout for money. To me, it's pure disgraceful behavior. Unless they are 'working' for you, or 'helping' you do something, or are acting like a tour guide to show you the area you're in, or are allowing you into their village, business, or even their house, tourists need to learn to please stop giving these beggars money, especially the 'cute' children who ask for money from tourists. It's one thing to 'help' out some impoverished or needy people or children with a 'donation' to help them out, but give them food, or clothes, a blanket, or a hat, or even a pillow, or buy something from them instead of just dishing out your money to them so they come to expect money from all tourists they see. You and Neenee make it a point to purposely bring clothing, household items, and food or even just snacks for the kids, to help out the villagers, and it's so noble and honorable of you both doing this for so many of the remote mountain villages you find/see along the way on your travels. It's the real way to 'help' them out, and I Thank You both for doing that wherever you go, it's very inspiring, and I hope to be financially sound enough to do that as well once I settle in to wherever I end up moving to somewhere in SE Asia within a year. Your vlogs are always awesome, and I still love your b&w photo's, Todd, it captures the area in a different way that video doesn't, and I honestly enjoy your photographic talents. Stay Healthy, Happy, and Safe to you both.
🤗🙏🏼! BEAUTIFUL! Totally agree. Thank you for bringing it to us. Those dark disks, I believe they are dried sap, it’s used as adhesive or glue. You would light it like you would wax, and drip it down to whatever you’re glueing. Like Neenee was saying, an example, it’s used inside knife handles so the handle ends stayed in the woods. Have a great day.
Was there 10 years ago floated our bikes down to nong khiew had to drink a lot of Lao Lao with port authorities to get the bikes on the boat 😊 very friendly town
Your music suits so well to your pictures !!! Thank you for getting a drone. Thank you for beeing so generous to the poor people. After 2 years I start to get used to your down under acccent. Cheers from Germany. I hope we have a beer one day.
Enjoying seeing the remote areas. Have you thought of doing guided tours yourself? With all your local knowledge you could work in with the river boat operators, etc. I only mention it because I know you are in the restaurant business, so you are business oriented. Take care.
Cracking vid there mate - tip top aerial photography and them stills at the end will become iconic in capturing the essence of these people. What was the track playing from 34.20 to the end ?? cos you choose some fab tracks in all your vids. Big thumbs up mate - im binging on these last couple of months of the tour as im stuck in the UK now looking after my old mum.
Great vlog Todd and Nene Todd u know happy hour starts at 2 pm And yes Todd I’m watching out of order lol 😂 Todd the answer to your question about had any viewers been in the next vlog We did do some riverboat touring back in the day and a It! of tubing Your comment about other farang is true And yes eating in locals places is better Todd the “ cat fish” I think were snakehead maybe ?
Great video, thanks. Been many times to Muang Khua for remote trekking since 2003, the last time in 2019. Cheers for showing what it looks like now (hasn't changed a lot, lol)
Hey Todd and Neenee. Another great vid of your adventure's out and about of Laos, this time Muang Khua.Totally agree with Todd about just being unaware, about this wonderful country of Laos has to offer. Thanks to you guys ,I'm on to it !! Bloody Neenee, and those slipper things (lol) she'll go arse up again ,i've already seen her fracture a bone in her foot, from stepping in a hole whilst videoing.Well said Todd about the kids begging, and being mindful, who are genuine needy kids ,not the ones being sent off by Mum n Dad to foster their drinking habits or other social habits.. Cheers Kenno .. West Aust
The kids begging is heartbreaking. We spent a month and a half in the Philippines earlier this year and the begging kids were everywhere. I truly feel for them, but I will never enable begging. That said, we tipped everyone yhat provided us a service well above what we would in the US. Also, if you want to see the pinnacle of farangs not talking to each other, go for a sunrise walk in Pattaya on the boardwalk. I see the same people every day and there are two guys that will say "hey" and make eye contact. The other several hundred look down or straight through you.
Ho Todd, am wondering if you are a SRV Stevie Ray Vaughan fan.Suggest song Texas Flood or Tin Pan alley and watch his performance. Would be good backing for your cruising if allowed.
A friend from Isan once told me that a lot of kids are told by elders that farangs eat children, which is one reason why some are scared. Great video!!
Loves this town. It looks so interesting. The begging by kids has been taught from generation to generation and it’s sad. I have seen it all over Vietnam. The Vietnamese government ask everyone to please not give money or lollies to them. Especially amongst the Hmong. They do not have access to doctors and dentists and causes so many issues especially with rotting teeth at very young ages. Also if you give money handouts to the children they tend not to go to school. I know in Vietnam they want all children to go to school rather than learn to beg along tourist routes. Thank you for also sharing with other foreigners not to give to the beggars and the reasons why
Ya, and then a couple videos later, Todd gives to an adult beggar. Go figure. And in Thailand, that is about 10 times more wealthy than Laos. I can not figure out people.
Ahhh beautiful place Tod but the tourists passing through there are despicable. The kids asking for money drove us insane really destroys a places vibe when it becomes like that, when locals start to resent foreigners also. The bus from Muang khua to Vietnam is hilarious also and a massive scandal, costs 5x as much as it does going from Vietnam to Laos - they've mafia'd it for any foreigner trying to cross it's insane. I've no idea what it is its this new generation of young people there awful, walking around heads down don't talk or interact with anyone, they'll walk around taking pictures of people but won't even say a simple hello how are you... So arrogant and rude think their gods gift especially when they get treated like kings in Laos or thailand etc. Drives me bloody insane mate Rant over the world's gone to rubbish get me off it Your a good man 🙏
Good to see you guys having fun and enjoying laos 🇱🇦 I did live there 15 years ago didn't work out for me. Yeah I am from Australia 🇦🇺 as well. Great videos mate 👍. You have a dji mavic air 2 ? Drone is this one you use. 🤔
Hi Todd and Neenee. I'm very enjoy your videos. It's very embarrassing to see the local kids asking tourists for money. I think parent should stop their kid to do that. I won't give them either even though I am from laos too. I absolutely agree with you. Have a great time and safe trip.
I have a mate of mine married to a Thai national. She says the Toyota Hilux's that are manufactured there can be purchased at about half the price you would pay in Oz. Is it the same in Lao? I have had my 2006 Hilux here in Cairns and she keeps on going. 280,000km on her now. Built to last.
Lao has very high import duty, so no they are about twice the price.. However if you ever have to sell your car in Lao you will always get a very good price for it.
1:01 Thanks for the map Mr Todd! Great drone shots. Agreed - begging - don't do it! (I mean don't just give money indiscriminately.){I am a bad falang! I like long English words that frustrate khon lao kit waa meang yang? Then I start writing Romanianized Lao - knowing I'll get "Paddington Stares" from my Lao friends, especially when I start using English idioms. Time for a Beer Lao - or a cup of tea! Sok dii der!
Why do monkeys sit around and attack tourists with food instead of foraging for food? Obviously, because it was given food by tourists. The monkeys have learned that tourists sometimes carry luxurious "monkey food" on them, and the food would be handed to the monkeys for FREE. There is a reason why park rangers said not to feed the animals. Of course, children are not animals. Regardless, I can't say that the children who displayed this kind of aggressive begging behavior are smarter than the smartest monkeys. They wouldn't last long in the forest by themselves. Children should not be taught to beg for money at such a young age. That's not how they should earn a living. They would be the disgrace of their village and the reason why tourists don't return for a second visit. If a tourist is going to give something to the children, give candies instead. Unlike money (which tend to have strings attached in most cases), giving candies to little children is not frowned upon in third world countries. However, they should not go around riding a big van and start handing candies to every kid they see on the streets. They would quickly be questioned and their van checked for kidnapped children.
Your editing is getting really good, good use of music, overhead shots, etc. 👍 You should NOT give those kids money UNLESS you use them on your TH-cam thumbnail! Little compensation maybe?? Come on! 😜
I'm glad you said that. I had the same thing happening all over Vietnam. I was wondering what's everyone's problem. They walk past you like they think their invisible. So it's not just in my head. It's like they try to avoid contact. Same thing happens in Northern Thailand 🇹🇭
It depends on where they've come from I've found. Most of the countries who welcome tourists with open arms you find the farangs sre sociable and talk. I've had them call out and cross the roads just to have a chat but not so much the Europeans. Fair comment tho Todd and NeeNee. Budhyboy Oz.
@Marion Delgato you took what I said out of context. I do eat at McDonald's. I ate with the locals and hung out with the Karen Tribe in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. We are talking about casual speaking. Like saying hello when you pass someone. The same thing when you see your neighbors. Wow, you got to love social media.
@Marion Delgato Actually there are two different Karen tribes. They are not the long neck. Look it up. The Hillside tribes. I walk and meet people. Why travel all the way to another country to eat nasty McDonald's 😒. You lose again
Hello todd and nee, filming and music excellent, the locals seam weary of falangs , might be the 📷 any way interesting town and your right , giving the kids money 🤑 not good, teaches them to scam and beg 😊
I learnt to give food & drink. Never cash !! Good intentions are one thing. Action is something else, especially in a culture you are not 100% familiar with
Amongst the bare feet and lugging firewood up the hill, the beauty of the girls and ladies wearinh their traditional clothes on show for you. The Valley of fertile soil and tilled paddocks on the way there so pretty
Yeah you always know an Oz or Kiwi because they're saying hi to everyone aye Todd. I always noticed that too. And you say hi to some random Farang and they look at you strangely, you know they're European and not from down under. Makes you wonder why they bother leaving their own country really. I mean scenery is one thing but not worth much if you don't get to know the people living in the scenery right. You of all people know that. Life is all about the people you meet, or even just say hi to. Thanks as always for showing us a bunch more people :)
A 4x4 Toyota is the only thing to have up there. Mate. I buy a new one every 10 years. Gas and Oil and you're set. None of these American POS. I like these drone shots. Big river..
But the farang are generally like that now Todd. They aren't cool like you man. Back home here in Sydney...they do exactly what they do there....not friendly.
@@NowinLao They must have been very hard Ks. Maybe it is the transfer case for the 4x4. My Cruze has done nearly 200K. Other than replacing every water hose and some oil seals it is still running perfectly.
Hej "Old aussie chap" .I perfectly agreed with your statement: giving money to children or even grownup locals is the perfect way to spoil the spirit of local populations. All these "backpackers rambling westerners" giving money to locals is quite bad making them "monkeys receiving bananas". I wander what these "found of making goodness" tourists should say if some foreigners should give money to children of there home villagers in Europe or America ! Lakone deu.
Give the kids some money man if you are that broke don't travel to poor villages and go to big cities. If I was there, I would give the 2 little girls 20 to 40 dollars each and that's still nothing to me.
Wait just one minute , sir. You have Patreon and Paypal, "Asking" for money. But, you dont want those little girls to get any money, in one of the poorest countries in the world? Really? Ok, to each his own. I would not hesitate giving them 20,000 kip each, to maybe buy a piece of candy, that you give out for free?????????
Chuck, please read the date at the start of this video. It says Dec 2022. What do you think I have been doing for the past 5 months... Travelling, vacationing, relaxing and drinking? Maybe you would be, but the videos don't edit themselves. I spend 40-50 hrs/week in front of a computer creating them. The clothes, blankets, food, school books etc don't magically appear in the back of the truck either.. (I notice you never comment on those videos tho) Please take your ignorant comments elsewhere.
@@charlesmcdonald8654 Surely one of the most inane comments ever posted on TH-cam Chuckie boy. Would you prefer to see video after video of Todd working in their restaurant? They take us out to see parts of Laos, most of us will never see. What’s with the handle? Are you a competitor? One thing for sure, you’re a fake and a nasty, spiteful loser. Get over yourself Chucko.

@@NowinLao They must have been very hard Ks. Maybe it is the transfer case for the 4x4.
My Cruze has done nearly 200K. Other than replacing every water hose and some oil seals it is still running perfectly.
@@puggsincyberspace They're all hard kms here mate.. 😟
Lakone deu.
Exactly!
If you can make that kind of money why would anyone tell everybody...
Mate. Doesn't matter how far you go in Laos. Always walk past a bloody Oppo billboard!
Hahaha.. Yeup 😏
Tood..and..Nee Nee..what..a.. picturesque.. small..town..the.. scenery..like..a..postcard..too..bad.. the.. farangs.. don't..speak..among.. yourselves..😢..!!!
Farang that wont acknowledge another farang lol. Thats because they think theyre more Laos than you. Its strange imo.
For sure don’t give any money to those little girls I know they are dirt poor and only have the shirt on their back but make them work for it .

Give the kids some money man if you are that broke don't travel to poor villages and go to big cities. If I was there, I would give the 2 little girls 20 to 40 dollars each and that's still nothing to me.
"If I was there..." Yes, very noble of you. That make you feel good? Now pat yourself on the back because all you are doing is encouraging begging!
Toyota Hilux because Terrorists on 3 continents can't be wrong lol
Wait just one minute , sir. You have Patreon and Paypal, "Asking" for money. But, you dont want those little girls to get any money, in one of the poorest countries in the world? Really? Ok, to each his own. I would not hesitate giving them 20,000 kip each, to maybe buy a piece of candy, that you give out for free?????????
He is working for it.
I suppose if you call working , vacationing all over Laos, while eating and drinking and relaxing , work, well ok then. LOL!!!
(I notice you never comment on those videos tho)
Please take your ignorant comments elsewhere.
Have you been to the great USSA????
You like good music and love your conten. Who makes the black and white foto Nini? Thanks from the Netherlands 🍺
Thank you. No, Neenee has her own channel and is busy with that, I take all the B/Ws.
