    Everyone complaining about the mix need to listen through better speakers... Sounds fantastic to me. Jazz cymbals are best heard in context anyway!
    I've played the 20 and 22 med thin lows for about 10 years... but the med thin highs are speaking to me now!

    • @christianwagenseil9621
      @christianwagenseil9621 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      danablett when you compare the sound to other demonstrations / videos, it is actually a bit deceiving. the sound here appears smoother than it actually is, and I'm listening to this with 500 dollar Grado headphones 😁 . The mix is not ideal. On the other hand, when playing a cymbal with a band, the sonic environment of bass, piano etc. covers some of the harsher frequencies of a cymbal, so you're right about the context

    They are all good. My preference is the 20" medium thin low. I would use it for small jazz ensemble work. For big bang jazz, I personally have found that the K or A sweet rides can be heard in the audience and blend well with the band. Lower pitched washy cymbals don't seem to project through a big band in an acoustic setting.

    The Bounce has the nicest, cleanest almost a sparkle sound that’s very alive with this nice shimmer when a heavier stroke is used even when it’s not allowed to just ride out but continued with lighter strokes..
    A great performer within its Jazz genre of fusion, contemporary, swing and club sounds, but no doubt would make a great cymbal for R&B (original R&B) and the Delta Blues...

    Frustrating, because what this tells me is that I need about five of them! I like them all, love half of them, but couldn’t settle on any one. Different voices for different moods. If pushed to pick one that could work across most styles of jazz, I might go for the 22 Renaissance, but ask me again 5 minutes later and I’ll choose something else.

    • @erick_fernandez_78910
      @erick_fernandez_78910 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah at 4:07 it’s a “medium thin ride low” which is heavier than the previous one at like 3:50 and a “mid thin high”.
      Weight and pitch aren’t necessarily dependent on each other but, it is interesting nonetheless.

    • @TheMASDrummer
      @TheMASDrummer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a manufacturing, standpoint. The 'low' models have less curvature and a lower profiled bell. This intern allows the cymbal to pass it's vibrations with less difficulty, which makes the sound darker and with more pronounced undertones. Yes, although lighter cymbals are generally darker and lower pitched than their heavier counterparts, the cymbal profile contributes to the sound just as much.

    Can anyone tell me why often people will list the weight of cymbals in grams? What's the significance?

    • @bostondrum
      @bostondrum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weight is a factor in the cymbal's sound that isn't always apparent from a picture or a description. As with anything, people get nutty about it, but certainly a 4000g 22" will have certain characteristics that a 2000g one doesn't, and vice versa. Thanks for watching.

      @davidsuprenant893 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cymbal weights varie ,you may hear a cymbal you really like and you buy it and it don't sound the same. It's always a good idea when you hear what sounds great like on eBay to find out gram weight.Some vary quite a bit.

    • @bonzomio
      @bonzomio 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having gone through a lot of cymbals, I just find knowing the weights of a cymbal will get me into the ballpark on what characteristics a cymbal might have (stick definition, pitch, wash, etc.). No guarantees....the proof is in the pudding. Even then, a cymbal can change with age, most of the time for the better. If you find a good one, keep it. Boston Drum Center will take care of you.

      Pitch.

    • @TheMASDrummer
      @TheMASDrummer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is to do with the profile of the cymbal from a manufacturing standpoint. The 'low' models have less curvature and a lower profiled bell. This intern allows the cymbal to pass it's vibrations with less difficulty, which makes the sound darker and with more pronounced undertones.

    Debating whether to get the high or low pitched Med Thin 22" Ride

    • @Danielcardoso294
      @Danielcardoso294 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low it is competitive with the frequencies of the bass, sustaining the balance, But on the other hand, depending on the type of comping that gives the solist the high can become more interactive with the piano, almost as if it were bringing new air and new nuances. The best in my opinion is to be able to have cymbals with characteristics similar to low and high in the same set. A high would be on the left side and the lows on the right, so have melodic tools for any comping or swinging! I'm sure? What's your point?

      I heard a slight difference when they moved to the 22" models, but that's it.

    Thanks for doing this; it's really informative despite the bitching in the posts :-)

    You can really start to tell a difference at 2100 grams

    Well now that was a waste of time and a disservice to these fine cymbals. Please redo this video and mix it right so we can hear them next time please

    Either I’m going deaf or your mix is horrible. How am I supposed to make a determination when I can barely hear any of the rides you played. Piano and bass were way higher volume in the mix. Bump!

    ベースの音がでかくて肝心のシンバルの音が聞こえない。又、ミディアムヘビーやヘビーが無いので比較出来ず、折角色々叩いてるのに参考にならない。
