I tried this last year with my 2021 4runner but was so scared i might break something so I stopped halfway after I pulled the tabs on one side. Makes me wonder why that needed to be screwed in the first place. Thanks for making the video, now im going to go wild on removing that cover in a bit.
Congrats on breaking the brackets to uncover that mass amount of storage space. You can can now stash a hat, one glove, a pack of bubble gum, and comb.
Instead of doing that I was gonna cut an opening and place an ammo can into the opening and glue it, basically making a tool box, you can do this on both sides. I wanted to buy extra panels and not break my original ones.

Thanks, i did this mod on my 2021 runner and its awesome. I did both sides it was fine. Goes back in tightly.
What are you putting in there? What about the inverter that’s crammed in there? What’s in the other side?

How much space was on the driver's side compartment? Enough to put some tools, jumper cables, tow strap?
Its a small space some mild tools and some jumper cables

Thanks for the video. How solid is that piece now with the broken clips? What happens if you pull up front the "broken" side? does it come off easily?

I did it to run some wires to the rear of the vehicle, other people have put some carpet down and store tools/misc items there.

the other reply is correct, factory inverter is located above the passenger wheel well. That is what you can see
