      Thank you for your comment! You are correct that covalent compounds are non-polar, however water is an exception to this rule. Water is a polar compound because the oxygen atoms in water molecules are more electronegative than the hydrogen atoms. This causes the water molecules to have a slight negative charge on the oxygen side and a slight positive charge on the hydrogen side.

      because "hydrogen chloride" is polar covalent compound and hydrogen chloride chemically reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid which contain ions. hydrogen chloride is colavent and hydrochloric acid is ionic
