I am a Grandmother, whose ample figure is difficult to hide and style. But you have offered some classic types I have applied for years and are worthy of all ages attention. The more shape an ensemble has, the more shape a woman has. Even with a thick waist you can wear a belt. Longer length pants are better than capris or ankle length. Longer, dressier pants elongate your legs. Chunky shoes of any style make you look clunky. A feminine shoe or boot is always more appealing with a heel, even a short one. The dark turtle neck with dark slacks and the cardigan or blazer over is always a successful look. The dark middle is slimming. You didn't mention your hair and earrings, but I will. A drop earring with your hair styled back enhances your neck and décolleté, so beware as you get older. A shorter drop is always nice, for formal or everyday wear. When I wear my hair back in a chignon I always pay close attention to my jewelry, especially the earrings. Hope this helps those of us who truly wear the high rise pants/slacks/trouser with a belt and shirt tucked in with a blazer. Note: Most important, is to wear a smile! You'll look younger, have wonderful smile lines as you age, and have a bit of added intrigue and interest to those around you:)

Loved my Fluvogs in the 70’s !!!! Ohhh I’m old 😮
I am 75 years old and live in an apartment with many women my age. We like the baby-doll dresses because it makes us feel flirty and young. When you develop as many frumps, bumps, and rumps as we have the old tricks of styling won't work any more. I for one am happy with my loose as a goose dresses. Heels are no longer an option and most of us have sworn off any "shape ware" . It's all about comfort at our age.
Seeing a zillion younger people telling us of a 'certain age' how to dress is so boring. We'll dress how we dress, get over it. Beyond a good bra, I no longer wear heels, no spanx, no half tucked shirts, I'm probably not going to tuck any shirt in either. Skip whatever the current style jean is - I'll keep wearing the jeans in my closet until they wear out so I'm not contributing fabrics to landfills. I'm not part of the fast fashion generations.

Baby doll dresses is what I used for maternity dresses in the 70s and the 80s worked very well for me

People also need to understand that style is personal and just because something looks frumpy on you doesn't mean it will look frumpy on them. Everyone has different body types and heights to them. Hopefully, no one is that sensitive to get their feelings hurt! This is all in good fun!! Great video👍🏽

I agree. Loose, baggy clothes make me look heavy and baggy, as I'm 5'6" and on the thinner side. But heavier ladies might look good in loose clothing.
Yes, I'm short. 154 cm. Even her fabulous looks would overwhelm me and make me look frumpy. I live in a hot climate so I wear sleeveless dresses most of the time. Really modest but the Churches here want covered shoulders. I have one dress that has a print skirt and it needs something very simple to go over it. Most of my other things are solids. I wanted to find a very light jacket or possibly a blouse I could wear as a jacket. Everything came below my hips and looked awful. I went into another store and found a white eyelet shirt. It's quite sheer and I wouldn't wear it as a shirt but it had short sleeves and a draw string waist and while not super chic, does the job.
@@Lisa59 Heavier and/or tall. 5'6" isn't short but if you're thin, the loose flowing look isn't great. A very tall woman who's thin can get away with it too.

Fun video. Sometimes the best way to see things more clearly is to contrast them like you did. it is fun to try things on ourselves and see what works. John Fluvog boots!!! i had similar ones to what you had and wore them out! I still have a pair of his shoes kicking around but don't buy them now since I am retired and can't wear much of a heel due to my back. His styles are timeless and Fluvog lovers unite. I just worked with a woman wearing a pair of his funky heeled boots. Keep up the great work, Jamie.

Very, very lovely video. I have an awesome Calvin Klein jacket that I bought in the nineties at Macy's for $20 on Clearance. Super, super slimming and still looks brand new. I was pleased to see that I follow many of your tips already.
It took me many years to recognize that styling is just SMOKE and MIRRORS. WE are the artist, and our lovely bodies are a blank canvas. WE can basically instruct the observer to view only where we want it to gaze with color, scarves, and material. We have that choice and also, we do NOT have to yield to what the manufacture deems as stylish.
How exciting now that I know that. However, I had to teach my 40 year old daughter that tan shoes with a dress creates an extended and not dumpy look for the legs look because the eye continues downward. Finally, she understands. Thank you.
Oh, and good luck with finding a nice regular or midi dress with a waistline now a days. I will check out your link with crossed fingers.

Great transformations. Not sure if I yet know enough to transform my outfits. Still, I'm relearning the importance of "playing with my clothes." So much fun to be able to "salvage" a piece you love with revisions in the rest of the look.

Great to see the classic camel blazer paired with black a timeless look. There is a lot of brown in various shades at the stores so pick one up this autumn. I've experimented with both ways to wear a shirt tuck/untuck, and sometimes you can wear it loose and long it is still stylish and chic especially when you put your hands in the pocket.
I think it is flattering, with a skinnier pant.
When out of the trend it’s difficult to find them…

In general, same colour trousers/ skirt and shirt / t shirt/ sweater
In summer I am wearing crisp white fitted shirt, collar out with it
Camel is neutral colour, you can play with the nice scarf……

I’m short…5 ft….and have tried the half tuck but don’t like it on me. I suspect it’s because I’m old! 65 yo. I still like to completely tuck all of my shirts in. This is what makes fashion and style interesting to me.
