Mr M: Marius Roberts delivers the JAC T8 pickup

- South Africans are bakkie (pickup) obsessed (they outsell passenger vehicles each month) so its a terrain manufacturers want to play in.
But consumer brand snobbery makes its a very difficult segment to break into, so what chance does a relatively unknown brand like JAC really stand?
I say relatively unknown because up until early 2019, they had only offered light commercial trucks in our market. The introduction of the T6 pickup changed that and the positive response to the model saw they add the T8 to the lineup at the end of 2019 / early 2020.
This is my first interaction with the brand and the T8 certainly delivered some surprises! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The earlier 1.9tdi had an issue in the high spec polo but generally it is bullit proof and economical . the turbo overhaul is affordable ...
The fact that it has a vw engine in there gets my thumbs up ...seeing as how we spend 90% in the city.
Yep, that's why I said this application suits the engine better - the driving characteristics of the Polo driver and the higher output was just too much! Annoyed a lot of Polo owners at the time when VW fixed the problem and they got cars back that didn't perform the same.
But this is a seriously solid product - was very impressed.
Its just incredible to see how much more efficient they have become though - that old 1.9 was giving me 10.5l/100 in town and am in the 3.0 V6 Amarok & that's giving me 6.8l / 100 at the moment!
One gets to appreciate a low first gear when you have a 4X2 and drive a steep mountain road.

I got mine last month so far happy and compare to other Chinese brand in Oman this is the best. Frankly speaking even with others in terms of money.
It was really an eye opener for me - very impressive when compared with so many other 'emerging' brands out there. GWM is now probably the best of the rest when compared with the established pick-up brands...the new P-Series is super impressive.

Well this has the potential to be a better seller than the GWM range, just going on looks. I've done a test drive with the T8 and it was great compared to the 2013 Isuzu 2.5 dtec we owned earlier this year.
Good review Marius on the T8. Well detailed. I’m short on the T8, Contemplating to go for the 2021 jac td6 double cab 1.9/2.8 tdi 4x2. Any advice on that?
Wow sorry I am only seeing this comment now!!! T6 is obviously just their older and low spec'd version of the T8 - much like GWM have retained the Steed as a lower price point to the P-Series. It has the same engine as the T8 so it really is just the tech and spec.
I love the steering wheel, dash, and window controls, I likes them in my chevy cruze too ;)

Wonder what the off-road capabilities would be like especially where I live, whe have deep slopes, and soft sanded dunes wich has access to remote beaches. That's what I'm looking for.
Quinten Lowe I think not having a lockable diff does limit its off road / sand driving ability especially when the going really gets tough. Am not sure how hectic the sand driving is that you would take on, but with low range and correct tyre pressures, it will be comfortable in most conditions

The T8 is like a kid who grew up inspired by the industries' greats I mean 🤷🏽♂️ the badge has GMC roots, GM steering wheel, VW engine, Toyota dimensions and previous Mercedes mirror indicators........Ohhhh🤦🏽♂️my bad it ain't an industry first🤷🏻♂️😂😂
