The battle of the bakkies rages on in South Africa, so when a cat is thrown among the pigeons, I am all for it. I do love an underdog. And the GWP P-Series LTD is a bakkie that might not hit every high note, but it is certainly a great offering to those who want the bakkie life, but not the bakkie price.

We bought two about 4 months ago, LT for my wife and the LTD for me although I'll probably never use the winch. No turbolag in fact I have to be gentle not to spin the wheels on pull away. 9 l/100km over 8000km. No regrets from either of us. The active safety systems are interesting. I love the fact that the car steers, brakes and do everything for me but it does require adjustment. It's a bit like an airliner, autopilot is on but it's a partnership aimed at keeping me safe. I'm spoiled now. Interior quality is excellent, the thing handles rough dirt roads daily as we live on a farm in the Northern Cape with no rattles. My wife's LT is more comfortable due to a different front suspension that gives me twin difflocks but again, I liked the looks of the LTD so that's why I went for it. I only considered the Hilux 2.4 4×4 as a possible alternative but that's too attractive for thieves and I would have felt cheated out of the incredible technology in the GWM every time I saw one. I never recommend cars because it's such a personal decision but I wouldn't trade mine for anything else. My wife says her car is the nicest vehicle she's ever had so that's a great relief. Happy wife and all that.

But we sometimes talk as if the other bakkies from the "popular brands" have don't have those "plastici things" while they actually do have......BUT they go for R250k more than the GWM bakkie. I will never ever buy those "popular bakkies" again. They are so overrated everyday and people shouldn't be misled by "popular opinion". Yes I have the money to buy them, but any financially savvy individual will never go and spend more unnecessarily. Anyway if popular opinion matters, it is only a matter of time anyway before any Chinese cars become "popular" as well. I mean it was the same with the Japanese products in the 70s and 80s, they were regarded as "Japanese Junk" and popular cars were those from European countries (e.g Italy, Germany and England) and American. I would advise people to look into Chinese cars including this bakkie and moreover to go and test-drive them over and above these youtube/internet opinions.
