Way to COOK and using your home canned and dehydrated goods! Your man LOVED that meal; his smile said it all. And you sister are still the cutest chick ON youtube!
Love my pot pie with ham hawk. Takes me right back home every time I have it even though I moved away a couple decades back. It's an immediate warm hug in a bowl.
Love me some chicken slick pot pie! Can’t wait to try it with beef. Thanks for the inspiration 😊 Your lemon pie you posted would be great dessert to go with this!
Slippery chicken pot pie is a family favorite in our home. Tastes even better the second day. I should try it with beef once and see what the family thinks. Thank you for sharing your recipe. God bless!
I was married into the Amish community for 22 years in Somerset County PA and this is how we made it tell a difference is I didn't have the dehydrated vegetables I used all fresh and I still make it this way
@@MennoniteFarmhouse I was born and raised in Pa. When my grandma would break out the big pot, I knew it was going to be slippery pot pie! My favorite! Thank you for all you do! Also I appreciate you sent me, tomato seeds! Planted today! Thanks again!
There have been so many wonderful recipes this month. I have never heard of this pie before but it looks like a delicious comfort food. I will certainly try it sometime!
I haven’t made noodles from scratch since I was a little kid :). I have memories of making dried noodles and having them hanging up on a clothes rack, every cooling rack we had, and sometimes even the railing to the basement! I used to eat them raw (mmm salmonella!) or with sautéed green cabbage and a lot of black pepper. (Cabbage and noodles is still one of my favorite foods.)
Thanks for the memories: My Mom made the chicken soup-like variety with big rectangular egg noodles but her noodles were thinner. It was one of my favorite meals.
We are from central PA and when I make my noodles my MIL taught me to butter your dough let it sit for a few hours then cut and add to your rolling boil soup. The first time I made this I did not know to have the soup at a boil and I had one big blob of dough in my soup! Lesson learned, now I make good pot pie. Diane Hartley
This pot pie looks so good. With 6 boys I wish I would have had this recipe to stretch our meals. Thank you for sharing this traditional PA Dutch meal.
Hi LeAnn! This is like a cross between chicken and dumplings and chicken noodle soup, but it looks so good. I’m a chicken soup, pot pie or dumplings girl, was raised on it. Thanks for sharing and I will have to give this a try. Hubby approved stick to your ribs meal. Have a blessed night!!
That's exactly the way my mom made the dough except she only used the egg yolks. She made chicken and turkey pot pie. We cooked the broth with bouillon, celery, and onion, parsley flakes and a couple of potatoes cut in quarters, and dropped in the dough piece's one at a time so they don't stick together. Simmer until done and add the chicken pieces, yummy we pour vinegar over our serving, and always have Cole slaw on the side with home made bread. Good eat'ns,
Thank you SO much !! My family maternal side is German heritage & that is where ours came from. We usually only put the pot pie in broth & meat. I have added extras, but most of my family do not. We put it over mashed potatoes as part of a company meal. Or, individual bowl for just a regular at home meal. Mom dod not have a 'recipe', so when the boys left , we had to sit down & figure out the proportions & then send the written recipe to the new ones. Thank you so much.
Awesome dish I'm definitely going to make this. I have some beef defrosted and I was going to make a beef soup. Love ❤️ this Thank you 😊 Watching from Philadelphia Pennsylvania
My aunt was born and raised in Pennsylvania dutch country. She made this for us once it was so delicious but I never knew how she made it until now. Thank you for the great recipe.
Yes pot pie is a whole different thing in Texas. Another thing that was a shock to me was bologna. Growing up in PA we always ate Lebanon Bologna from the farmers market, not Oscar Mayer. Big difference!
Oh so good! Thank you LeAnne for bringing back some wonderful memories! My childhood and my children's childhood. Definitely one of our comfort foods! Blessings on your day Kiddo!🥰🌻🐛💕
Hey there! From Berks County here - I live in Florida now, for 2 years. Your channel makes me miss PA Dutch food so much! / Green Dragon / Shady Maple! Can’t wait to make some of these recipes. Thanks so much!
Never had pot pie like this... We called beef and noodles in the middle west. I make homemade noodles all the time and I'm going to try this this coming up weekend. Thanks, Leanne 🥰
Agreed, this looks delicious. Technically, I guess you could say it's a Pot Pie simply because you're using Grandma's pot to cook it in, lol. This recipe is so flexible. It will be fun to try, for sure. Thanks for sharing the techniques and history. 😊
I grew up with a recipe like this but never heard it called Slippery Pot Pie. I guess it was a easy recipe that used store bought egg noodles?! I have to make this.♥
I lived in Lancaster for a few years and loved Chicken Pot Pie like this. Now where I live everyone thinks Pot Pie is with crust, they are so wrong. I also love a good Chicken Corn Soup 🐤🐥
I grew up with mom making pot pie with pie crust top and bottom. I was invited over to my husband's to be's home for pot pot pie dinner and was served soup with noodles in it. I was very shocked! It was delicious but just not what I expected!
Oooooo dehydrated potatoes! The only thing I do different, is with chicken potpie, I add just a tiny amount of saffron. That gives it a very mellow flavor.
I have never made anything like this before and can't wait to try it out! Mrs. Lady you have SO many great recipes that I am just going to have to pick and choose, I love it!
I need to get a folder and start to get these ideas down because these are nice to have and if I want to share I can just hand the folder over and let folks pick from it. These look so darn good!
Thank you, LeAnn! That looks delicious! I LOVE, love love homemade egg noodles, and I could see when you were rolling them out, you have done this more than a few times! I struggle with them when I make chicken and noodles like my mother in law taught me. I’m going to try your recipe! Thanks for sharing!❤
This was a staple growing up in our house. My mom always made it with chicken. It was one of my favorites. Our fire company in White Horse is famous for its chicken potpie fundraisers.
When I moved to PA in 1987 from CA, I was shocked to see that this is what is called pot pie there. My father was born in PA, and his family moved back and forth between PA & CA when he was young. I have PA Dutch roots, but had never eaten this until I lived there. Thanks!
I grew up in ohio. I have family that are amish or used to be amish and now are Mennonite... my grandmother's side... best food ever! My family live on Oregon now but I still cook like this. Thank you for sharing some of your life with us😊

So good!
Love my pot pie with ham hawk. Takes me right back home every time I have it even though I moved away a couple decades back. It's an immediate warm hug in a bowl.
Looks wonderful! Looks quick and easy, too.
I will definitely try this. I’m from Ohio and my Mom and Grandma made homemade noodles. This brought back good memories. Thank you.

Looks absolutely delicious!!
I'm one of those people who thinks a pot pie has to have a crust but this sure looks delicious. Thanks for sharing Leanne. God bless.
My grandma would make this and keep the noodles long strips about 2 inches wide. This is the absolute best eating! Thanks for sharing
What a great recipe! I loved hearing the history behind the dish. Thank you!
