I got SCREWED! Lennox CBX32 blower replacement w/ unexpected gift from contractor at the end 😡

  • I originally diagnosed the problem of the bad blower motor on a Tuesday. It took one day to get the parts and I came back on Thursday to install the motor and board. In the meantime the contractors working on a remodeling project in the house left me the gift of a "screw" through my thermostat wire. This was sending power to Y + G. You guessed it, the outdoor unit was running in heat. Thank goodness for high pressure switches! Be aware that some of these new units are now sending DC volts to the "X13 type" blower motors to turn them on and adjust the speeds. With the wiring harness plugged into the blower the DC voltage should be about half of what it is with the harness unplugged.
    Thanks for watching guys 👍

    Great video I appreciate your posting and how frustrating it was for you to get to the bottom of this awful situation for both you and the homeowner. In 2013 I got my CBX32MV-036-230-6-06 with XC21 and after doing business with several companies my system has had one failure after another and I have been charged for repairs that Lennox corporate said should have been warranty covered but I got charged anyway and corporate refused to help me saying it was a civil matter between myself and the local company. I had several iComfort thermostats fail lasting about 18 months each and only the first one covered by Warranty. I replaced with the S30 thermostat recently praying for better luck. I had the XC21 dual pole contactor fail in the on mode that confused the condenser control board so the compressor ran without the condenser fan running and the compressor ran until it cut out via thermal internal protection. Took several service calls and service techs before the old guy found the sticking contactor and replaced it. The duel pole contactor they charged me $167 and the old guy gave me the failed one and I bought replacement contactor for $8 online so I have a spare. The very expensive $800 XC21 dc variable speed condenser fan bearings failed but got new one under warranty. Recently the air handler motor failed and they charged me $500 but from what I understand that has 10 year warranty and I should not have been charged. Now I have a refrigerant leak and was said will cost me $1500 to repair but I said no put refrigerant and its a slow leak that was detected years ago. That cost me $300 for two pounds of refrigerant and a service call that the service call should have been under the annual contact I have for inspections and cleaning and refrigerant is not more than $30 a pound for R410A unless I am mistaken. I am no expert but am electronics tech and I used to help the air conditioning techs at work when they needed a weak mind with a strong back to help them lift stuff or hold the flashlight. I doubt I will ever buy a high SEER system again, the parts and service is just too expensive. I am in southeastern Florida. Now I have a alarm on the S30 but no code yet so I plan to check the thermostat wiring for mice damage next using continuity meter. Since you are good tech I hope to see more videos how to get the CBX32MV-036-230-6-06 with the XC21 work without having to spend $1000 for a S30 thermostat and use something less expensive like other smart thermostats on the market. Thanks again for a very interesting video and be careful the work you do can be dangerous and I am sure the news you had to share for this one was not fun when you had to advise the homeowner what you discovered. And I paid $8000 for my 3 ton Dave Lennox signature system in may of 2013 with a $1000 rebate from FP&L. Godspeed.

      Best of luck to you in the future. As you mentioned, when the time comes to replace that unit I would definitely consider going with a more basic simple unit instead of the high seer fancy stuff. And I would probably steer away from Lennox also. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found the video helpful. 😎👍

      alot of your charges on price with certain parts is because you have a parts warranty and labor warranty. labor is only the first year. the parts is 10 years. so you get the part for free but have to pay labor to put it in. it sucks but thats just the way things are.

    Great info thank you. There is very little info on Lennox ECM 3.0 blower motors. I have two identical units. Changed module on blw mtr. Dealer said warranty exp 2 mo ago. Very expensive $$$. Purchased module at cost still exp.. Will change to PSC mtr next time.
    Was charged $2500.00 for faulted compressor. under warranty. Replaced about 4 thermostats at $450.00 each. Now attempting my own service & repair. Looking for other good brand A/C. Lennox are not my favorite anymore. Will never buy another! What is a good A/C?. I am open to all suggestions. Used Goodman in the past with no problems for rental property. No bells or whistles, keep it simple.

      I’ll give you a tip on these communicating 4 wire motors put 24vac on common and Rx wire for a go/no go test. I have hooked my oscilloscope to the tx/rx wires to look at the communications packets on the one I worked on because I had a code for no communication to blower motor. I saw what appeared to be good communications on the wires. Put 24vac to common and rx and motor would rock but not start. Diagnosed bad motor.

    • @sknight0391
      @sknight0391  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joeshearer1247 I've haven't tried it yet but I've been told that you can use a regular x13 motor tester, like the Supco, on these motors to start/test them . I guess the 24 volt pins start the motor up and the DC current pins ramp up and down.

  • @jeffreywhitlatch1409
    @jeffreywhitlatch1409 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would certainly bring it to their attention. They need to know that they fucked it up. And that's probably why it wouldn't sense it's own equipment. It kind of sounded like it was a communicating. And communicating can sense its own equipment that's hooked up. And that screw's probably why it didn't. HVAC is so stressful. You're a good man. And you got screwed all right. Excellent pun. I just saw this video was 2 years old.

After watching this video again I noticed it only had 4 wire connector instead of 5 connector for the blower speed, could a technician assume that there will be ac volts for a 5 Terminal and dc volts for a 4 Terminal? Also was the dc voltage constant or pulsating? Good Video👍
