Easily the greatest ACC tourny run ever. He was unguardable. The total disrespect of Mcinnis was icing on the cake.

+Ronald Dorsey im from charlotte so of course i know of Jr. Loved NCAA much more than NBA around this time. Could probably name 75 ACC players and over 150 total NCAA players. With the new style of one and dones, I cant name 35 total college players.

truthhurts2000 yup. Only conference tournament dominant run I've seen that you can mention with Randolph's is Ben Gordon's 04' Big East conference tourney. Shorty averaged 30 ppg as well. Scored over 90 pts, in 3 games.

One of the greatest tournament runs by one player in ACC history. Randolph Childress was otherworldly that year. And after that it was like he disappeared. But my God what a player he was for the Demon Deacons!

I saw Childress in a 3 OT game at Vanderbilt, when I went to school there, in '94 (we had Billy McCaffrey, SEC POY that year).
Vandy won in 3OT but only b/c Childress fouled out in the 3rd overtime--Childress hit every big shot in that game. He & McCaffrey went back & forth, both ended over 30 points.
I knew Childress was gonna be special after that, it's the best performance I've ever seen from a road player at someone else's gym, even though they lost.

He was an excellent college player. Missed a year due to a bad knee injury, but still managed to overcome to become a 1st round pick. He was a tweener back then because of his size, but in today's NBA he would be a major contributor.

He had bad knees which cut his career short. And he played in the wrong era. He would probably be a James harden or Russell Westbrook type today with better shooting touch and better defense.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. In 1995-96, "because as a fan, we want everything IMMEDIATELY," I called a Portland radio station, and referred to him as "Rookie bust Randolph Childress." Host Greg Robinson wasn't appreciative. "How can you say that," he asked me.

@@Peakfreud I loved Shawn Respert. It was discovered years later that he had a medical disorder (stomach cancer) that cut his pro career short. But in college at Michigan State, by far one of the best pure shooters I've ever seen, along with Childress, Reggie Williams (Georgetown), and Dennis Scott (Georgia Tech). @@sickofguysnamedtodd2293 true. For a decade they put out McDonald's All-Americans like a factory line: Scott, Childress, Lynch, Arron Bain, Sam Jefferson, Reggie Chambers, etc....the talent on those teams were just sick coached by D.C. area great Stu Vetter. He would also coach at Harker Prep and had guys such as Serge Zwikker (followed Coach Vetter from Flint Hill), Donald Ford, and Exree Hipp among others, before gong to Montrose Christian Academy later in his career, where he had guys like Rudy Gay, and a future Hall Of Famer, Kevin Durant.
