I've been waiting for this video for a long time. Mark Price was a nightmare for the opposing team! Lightning quick, great shooter, passed the ball, and extremely smart. A great basketball player!
Can you imagine Mark Price in today's game, with the full-on green light to shoot threes? Back in his day most threes were really just heat checks; even the best 3 pt shooters only attempted 2, 3, maybe 4 a game tops. Give MP 8-10 attempts from three NOW? He'd have scored 30 a game for several seasons. You known, like Steph.
Man, thanks for showing respect for Mark Price. You show respect to all NBA players. Thank you. It was the era of great point guards and he was one of them.
That dude was COLD. I'm also from Akron, born in 91 so I never saw him play, but I'd probably still call him the best pure PG the Cavs have ever had. His legacy absolutely suffered for having to play against the 90s bulls - but maaaaannn he really helped define the template for the modern PG
Glad to see Mark Price getting some love. I grew up watching him in Cleveland and the squad he was a part of was tough...that whole squad doesn't get enough love. Mark made fundamentals look easy.
Thank you for this! I tell everyone all the time how GREAT and underrated a player Mark Price was! My all time favorite player. He's why I wanted to play basketball.
My wife, Mark Price, John Salley, Pat Swilling and a few other were inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. It was a great event.
Was my favorite player and I became a Cavaliers fan. I remember when he came out of Georgia Tech. Easy to see that he was going to be a star if he didn't have a career ending injury. He certainly was. Great shooter and won the 3 point fg contest at the all star game. Thanks for giving him a program to himself.
During 80s and 90s the eastern conference was loaded with great point guards. Isaiah Thomas, Dennis Johnson, Mark Price, Doc Rivers, Mo Cheeks, Mark Jackson. It was a great time for competive Basketball.
Thank you for this video. I forgot about him myself, fantastic player. Loved watching him. Super underrated. This just makes me remember how great my NBA was watching while growing up.
For darn sure, Mark Price was totally underrated. I knew he was going to be successful in the NBA because I was living in Georgia while he was at Ga. Tech and the Jackets play in the ACC which gets a ton of exposure and TV time. Mark Price was priceless at Tech, and when he went to the NBA his game elevated to another level. The guy was only 6' but was strong as an oxe, super fast and would beat you off the dribble in the blink of an eye and could stop on a dime and knock down jumpers at 3 point range. A pure shooter... the Prototype of a Pure Shooter. He probably comes in under the radar because he was a Blue Colar worker, quiet and laid back... that is until he hit the floor and then he was a beast. It would be interesting to me to see where he ranks all time with the point guard? In my mind, he's a top 10 guy.

Not only for giving love to Mark Price, one of the best and most underrated PGs in history... but furthermore you show an incredible part of Terrell Brandon speaking, whom is one of the most underrated PGs of the 90s too!! Unbeliveable passer, floor general, really efective with his 5'11... and truly truly forgotten by the general public. He's another great candidate for your 90s videos, I think :D
I didn't have a TV, but I remember hearing the announcer say Price's name so frequently that I dreaded when his team played one of my favorites cause I knew he would give them a tough time! Thanks for doing a video on this great, but almost forgotten point guard.
Mark Price was so good that when they also drafted Kevin Johnson I believe the following year Mark Price beat him out for the point guard position making the Cav's feel lets trade KJ away to shore up another position. And ppl forget how great KJ was for the Suns. Before getting hurt his avg's in the playoffs were some of the best all-time at the point guard position. Man careers cut short due to injury.... lesson is don't ever try to pick someone up who outweighs Shaq by 30-40lbs. It's not going to end well. Speaking of anyone remember Oliver Miller?
Mark Price is one of my all time favorite players. Great shooter, great playmaker, great ball handler, hard to stop on the pick & roll, decent defender - He's just a complete player at the point guard position. I modeled my game after him.
@@Amick44 He was not better, just Stockton was pure point guard pass first type of gyu, if he had need to score he could in best plato FF run JS had almost 30 points per game in the end of 80s, he was expected to score more so he delivered. I so enjoy and admire these vids. His perspective is smart and first-rate, always. He sees the game and its players with purity, nuance and appreciation for how the game is played. Mark Price was indeed a killer, yet somehow I’d forgotten about him. Bless Sean for reviving the importance and genius of so many of these old stars.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. In 1991-92, when I was only 19, I hoped that the Cavs would have beaten the Bulls (to give the Blazers a MUCH better chance at the title), and thought that because the Cavs had a big edge at point guard and center (Mark Price and Brad Daugherty, over John Paxson and Bill Cartwright), the Cavs had a chance. Wasn't to be, with the Bulls' edge with Jordan and Scott Pippen.
If it weren't for his injuries, Mark Price might have been one of the best white point guards in NBA history alongside Bob Cousy, John Stockton and Steve Nash.
HOFer no question. But, he played at the same time as Thomas, Magic, Stockton so he's rated in the top 5 of his era. He'll make the hall, but it'll have to be from the veteran's committee. His peers will vote him in because they know how great he was. I saw him play against the Knicks at MSG. He dropped 40+ and had 10-12 assists. Nobody could guard him. Gerald Wilkens was a great defender and Price made him look silly. Yeah, it's too bad he got injured as he would have been on The Dream Team in '92.
The Cavaliers use to kill the Bulls. Mark Price was a big part of that, he was money! The thing about it, is that, even as a Bulls fan you couldn't be upset about his work. I was a fan because he showed humility in his play. He was just continuing his days at Georgia Tech.
Looking back I can see how great he was. I always liked the Cavs because of Lennie, and I knew he loved Price. I see the comparison to Steph. You have to wonder what Price would have been like if he played in this era and had access to the best health care. Might have been a lot like Steph.
3:23 And Mark was following in the footsteps of Larry Bird. One of only 2 players with *2* 50-40-90 seasons (Nash is the other IIRC - but on somewhat lower volume).
As a Bulls fan from even before Jordan was drafted, I couldn’t stand Price because he was so damn good and such a threat, all while looking like he just smoked a blunt before the game. And don’t sleep on Harper or Ehlo either. That Cavs team with Price, Ehlo, Daugherty, Harper, Nance and Williams was a great young team. Only two guys on the roster were over 30. That’s what makes “The Shot” playoff game even more incredible for MJ. The Cavs were talented.
Ever watch the NBA teams warm-up before a game? Saw the Cavs at the Clippers 1989. I followed the Clippers a lot that year, but always heard of Price. Dude did NOT MISS one outside shot during warm-ups. Now, there's a lot of NBA players who are really good outside shooters... in practice & warm--ups. Different when the game stars. Price "only" made 2 out of 4 3's that game but he shot 44% from the 3 that year (52% overall). That's Steph Curry stuff. His career average is 40% from 3 (6.7 assists per and shot 90.4% from the line). His torn ACL (1990) really affected his game and his quickness, but still was a load to handle for many more years. Like Steve Nash, Price was a decent defender, but nothing special. Isiah was being kind to Price. He normally got the best against the Cavs (19-12 against the Cavs thru 1994) & Mark Price, but doesn't diminish Price as an offensive player.
I liked seeing those Steph Curry comparisons. Because that man is definitely one of those who was Steph Curry before Steph Curry. Mark Price was nice and definitely deserves more respect on his name. If only he didn’t suffer those injuries, smh
@@davidmcpherson1347 Being bold enough to shoot from 35 ft or beyond is fun and all. But, Mark Price was just as big of a threat as a scorer on that floor, if not more. Great post. Okay, not that kind of post (Centre). Mark was awesome. As was was Isaiah, Nash and certainly others. I have to admit that I was a point guard. It was a lot of fun and very educational. Many of these players can be watched and learned from over and over again. Timing, setups, look aways, and everything else they had. And it was a lot. I salute Mark, Isaiah. Steph and their brothers.

Mark Price was basically proto-Steph Curry. Should be in the Hall of Fame, even with his truncated career. His influence on the game is simply too vast.
Price is criminally underrated. In part, because he wasn't that flashy. Just fundamentally sound and went out and did it every night. Still the best pure shooter ever. Another thing is, he played for the Cavs, which back then were mostly forgotten, despite being one of the most stacked teams in the East. But this just goes to show you how good Jordan and the Bulls were in their prime, as a loaded Cavs team, which would have probably won a couple championships today, couldn't get past them.
I loved Mark Price. He was the best free throw shooter I ever saw. He’s right up there with Steph Curry as far as how routinely he hit all net from behind the line. By the way, he’s a nice guy in real life, too. I spoke with he and his brother Brent at a mall in north Dallas once. Good guys 👍
Several of the Cavaliers from that era are kind of forgotten about because their lack off winning the conference or a championship. Much like the Atlanta Hawks of the era, they had to take out the Celtics, Pistons or Bulls to get it done.
Good comment. That's why I feel the 80s and early 90s were the best time in the NBA. There were so many great players and teams in both conferences back then.
