Cool unexpected adventure Luke. Smart move to pack it in a day earlier than planned. As Kenny Rogers once sang “....you gotta know when to fold ‘em...”
You should put a sign up saying no girls allowed. Id do it just for nostalgia. 😂 Really gelious. One day wheni get a piece of reasonable land.. growin up i was a fort guy. Every day during the summer.. winter.. u name it. I was out in what residents call the back lakes here in Wisconsin. Patch this one up till u get a new one up. :-)
You know, in survival situations, attitude is everything. Your shed is basically a few scattered planks semi-organized into a cube, and you've duct taped yourself inside it during an ice storm, but you seem happy as shit to be out nature. Good work 👍
I understand why you entertain another cabin but at the same time this rough little home away from home is amazing. And this video is one of the best. Between the scenery you go into and the places you trek is just proof life is good. And the Antlers are a huge bonus. Thank you for taking us on your adventures. Sometimes I can smell the fire and taste the coffee! God Bless.
Hey Luke that's how me and my brother camped when we were younger we had a old chicken pen in the woods on our farm we made a chimney out of big river rocks and mud probably wasn't safe but we are still here have a wonderful weekend
Canvas tarps are the key for covering up the gaps in your little cabin there mate. They usually come with riveted eyelets, so you can nail then up and take them down when your getting to hot in there. As for the vlog, you’ve got so much positivity in your vlogs Luke, massive mentor for the youth of today or those that need to get back on their path in life. Awesome work
Growing up on a farm our house had a metal roof and I loved the sound it made when it rained and sleeted. The sound of sleet on your shack brought back some great memories when I was a kid. Thanks.
A totally different kind of adventure! Pioneering in that great old shed with that awesome wood stove is so cool! Great dinner recipe too! Love the rain on the tin roof!
This my favourite video that you’ve done. And the wood stove worked so well. It’s nice also to have something to tend right when your holed up. Fabulous ✨
I can't wait until you visit this shed again for some winter camping. I'm hoping you do it in this year or early next year. Cold weather camping videos are my favorites. Happy camping, Luke and thank you for everything you do.
I agree. I grew up with a wood stove not much bigger than that as our only heat in the house. Also by keeping the door closed you keep the air flow from burning the wood faster. You go through wood really fast the way he dis it.
Glad you found the antlers. Another fun video to watch. It would be nice to keep the shed, just fix it up a bit, kick out the spiders, add a window and a nearby outhouse. Just some ideas. Thanks again, Luke. Stay safe.
I moved my family back to my childhood home in order to look after my elderly mother. I habe been wanting to go camping like you, but didny really have a place I felt comfortable. Now I do. There is a ruined quonset hut my dad made around 40 years ago on the property. I am hoping to set me up a place where I can go this coming Fall/Winter to camp. Thanks for the inspiration.
I would make doors, floor and staple up tar paper or cardboard at the inside of the walls. Let the charming outside be just like it is. And I would make the chimney twice as long, to get the fire going much better. I also would make a wooden chest with a padlock, to lock down my axe, saw, and other tools and coocking equiptment. Make a bed out of wood in a corner! That can also be used as a sofa. I am looking forward for more videos from this little sched! Best wishes from Norway, the land of the midnight sun!
Great video! Couple of ideas/hints: going "nr 2", just lean back against a tree trunk in a squatting position. Keeps the skin from contacting a surface you would rather not contact. Or, build a easily carried, folding framework with a toilet seat, and carry it out when you gotta. The missus would probably prefer that. You could staple some vapor barrier to your inside walls, maybe some foam insulation sheets, and there is a thin plastic wall covering in 4x8 sheets at Home Depot. About 3/16th or 1/4 inch thick,, pliable, easily trimmed with a box cutter, its white which would enhance interior lighting. If you want to hold down $$$, some more of that white cotton canvas stapled to the interior would gratly reduce the wind coming thru the gaps. Try to acquire a piece of tarp from an old dumptruck that has hauled asphalt. It is very heat resistant (asphalt about 400f when first loaded, and lot of tarps actually touch the hot mix). That could be used around the stovepipe if you dont want a solid interior wall. Extend the stove pipe above the roof, so the wind doesnt blow the smoke thru the gaps and fill the interior. Get new stovepipe, at least, but my experience has been less heat loss if you put the stovepipe vertical, thru the roof. Stove jacks are easily found. For just an overnight/weekend camp out, keep the shed but make improvements. Much cheaper that an off grid cabin and you could probably get everything accomplished in a 3 day weekend. New cabin will take lots longer. Look Get an ash shovel for cleaning out your stove. Adjust the damper in the pipe at night to slow down the burn rate, but still enough heat to remain tolerable, and you will probably have to fill the stove half as often. Look forward to the next video about the shed.
Freezing rain sucks!☹️☹️☹️👎👎👎 Fortunately we don’t get it too much in our Western NC MOUNTAINS!🙂🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍 Great video and cabin with wood stove. A great place to have if all goes bad and life threatening!
My brother was a wild child, he had complete freedom, had twin friends that roamed on foot, doing what ever they pleased, I envy that, as an adult he loved camping out catfishing, he enjoyed his life till he got too sick. I am looking forward to seeing him again, we WILL come back here on Earth for 1000 years, I am so looking forward to spending time with him fishing enjoying the woods!
Thanks for sharing your cabin with all of us. Warm, well fed in the woods, able to see out while inside...doesn't get better than that. The best to you.
Love the boy scout mess kit I used the same one for at least 20 years. My grandma bought it for me at a yard sale in around 1973 it was from the 1950's and even had a metal cup instead of a plastic cup. Plus I had a WWII ERA MESS KIT IT WAS AWESOME.
It looks like you had an awesome adventure. I know this was 2 years ago but it's still awesome. I don't know what you've done with the shed but from a carpenter's perspective, I would put the stove pipe through one of the walls and extend it above the roof. Then wrap the walls in tyvvek and then horizontal boards. Build a more permanent door. That's just my opinion. Love your videos, keep up the great work.
Spiders, I hate spiders 🕷. And although I enjoy these outdoor/camping videos my idea of camping is Howard Johnsons but will rough it at Motel 6 because they don't have room service...hey I like my creature comforts...but I really have learned a lot watching this videos.
@@ironbutterfly6835I've learned a lot of things that could help during the aftermath of a hurricane, etc. I hope we never need to use that information, though. We certainly wouldn't need to know how to build a fire because it's so hot here! 😁
Luke, I thank you for letting me share in your camping adventure. It is the only way for me to experience this! Being a woman and completely not able to go camping by myself, not because some women couldn't do it, but not this woman. However, I just love watching you enjoy this awesome experience. Thank you for sharing.
I loved your visit to your cabin in the ice! I never see snow, ice here in theDFW area; so love your wintery trips and comments, and positive attitude. Thank you, Luke!
Your the first guy I see showing us that you stay overnight POV walking around in the dark. No other survival channels guys I watch do that thanks man show me your the real deal.
I just love your videos Luke. This little cabin shed worked great in this ice storm. The property there looks amazing. Sounds like you will have the wood for future stays. Cover the holes up, and reenforce the walls, make a door, and the wood burner works great for cooking and heat. Stay safe.
Been watching this multiple times. It takes me back to when I was younger. I would be building forts all of the time. And the occasional 1 or 2 camping trips. I absolutely loved every minute of it.
I have been told, always chop 4x what you think you need for the night. So if you are staying for over 2 nights, you would need about half a cord I believe. That way, if it does rain, it would be covered or under something to keep it dry so you always have wood.
Cant wait to see how you tweek that shed. Head to goodwill and the habitat for humanity and see what you can find. Wish it was me doing it..looks like loads of fun!!!
Wondering what to do with the shed/cabin! This place is too classic to be just a shed! How about seal it off with a door and window? What ever your new secret is on what to do, what could be more cool than a quick gettaway! During the year slowly store up a wood supply. your new idea is probably good , however it might be too much uptown! Shed/Cabin sounds good!
Hey Luke, had a chance to watch this again and an idea I think you might want too look into is Five gallon bucket with a lid and handle and trash bags foam noodles that you can cut yourself as a seat cushion to sit on and make your own portable emergency toilet. You can also get these already set thru Walmart as "lockdown toilet bucket kit," under $30, you can also get these at Amazon as well. Just an idea to look into for your next overnight adventure in the shelter at Lone Wolf Mtn..!
I love your videos. I've been in Florida so long I can't remember what real cold is! Near the Holidays I always wish for mountains and snow! Thanks for sharing! Always learn something new
This one is my favorite so far (I enjoy all your vids). I love the adventure of it, the winter storm, getting the cabin ready, sleeping in the cot after a long day and nights work, and that stove, all so cozy . Please do more f these
I remember those old cast iron, wood burning stoves. Growing up, there were 7 of us kids and we had one in each bedroom. Dad would get up early, light a fire in each one of them and then go off to work. Mom waited until the house warmed up and then she'd get us up for school. By then, she'd have breakfast made. It was COLD during the winter, we'd stay in bed as long as we could. When those little cast iron stoves got hot, they did their job really well but they took a lot of wood, though.
Hey Luke. I would just start from scratch on the log cabin and use the shed you stayed in a wood shed for the cabin. Can hold a lot of chopped wood and still have room to do the chopping inside.
I have been watching alot of your videos and I just love them all. I must say you are one of the nicest guys. I love the way you treat your wife. You 2 are amazing. Thank-you for sharing your journey.❤
excellent adventure man! that ice storm lasted one night here in Elkin NC and I endured a long cold night in a trap shelter that night. video up tomorrow night! same here, limb after limb falling. good thing I set up in a clearing. cheers!
This reminds me of the time I went camping to a campground on my own - and not having the correct gear I decided it was best I pack up in middle of night and go home otherwise I was going be very very cold . This was way back when I realised sleeping in the -1 degree temps that my quilt from home wasn’t going to cut it . Everything was cold and damp - best decision I made it taught me to get the correct gear for winter camping. I today and better prepared for cold days . I was car camping took me about a hour to pack up in the dark and I was out of there headed home ( 45 min drive ) . So yeah making that split moment decision I understand that it’s fight or flight I guess I choose flight for good reasons . Looking at how much colder it was going to get . Have you ever had to pack up middle of night or in darkness or was it a learning curve that some of us had to learn .
I just love these videos when I was younger I used to love to go camping didn't have very many people helping me out doing that though. But now I'm almost 60 and I don't see me cutting logs. But if I had someone do it for me it was with me I would enjoy it again that's one of my things are going to do again because I'm not too old to sleep in a sleeping bag thanks for the video
I'm 76 and still do tent camping with my wife, 77 in the Sierra Mtns. of California. . We also have a small toy hauler but love the feeling of connecting with nature a tent and fire provides.
I love your enthusiasm for life and the way you speak about you and your brother's adventures. I think just patch up the cabin and add on to it. What a lucky find for the deer antlers, your face lit up like a kids on Xmas that was so exciting. The iced trees were gorgeous and dangerous. That wood stove was fantastic. I'm glad you decided to leave early due to weather concerns to make it home safely. Be blessed
Luke, next time, you need to bushcraft some batons. Use those batons to seal up the gaps in the siding. I would also bring a roll of chicken wire and noseeum mesh to cove the gaps along the ceiling joists. I suppose you could bring enough mesh to tach up on the inside walls.
I know I've seen this video before but it was good to watch again, it brought a smile to my face seeing you use the boy scout cookies set as it was the first one I ever had, then I remembered my dad gave me a set of British army mess time as a Christmas present, great videos and even better memory's
Two old guys are out walking through the woods, one says I’ll be right back I have to go take a dump. He comes back and the other guy says how did you wipe? The guy says I always carry some toilet paper, but in an emergency you can use leaves or even a dollar, if you use leaves make sure it’s not poison ivy or something like that. A little while later the other guy says I need to take a dump too and offf he goes, he comes back with crap all over himself!!! The other guy says what happened to you, the guy says I had no paper and I don’t no what poison leaves looks like. His buddy say why didn’t you just use a dollar, the guy says I did!!!! Do you know how hard it is to wipe your arse with 3 quarters 2 dimes and a nickel lol lol
I hunt and look for sheds every year but do a google search of it and you will find many reasons why they don't litter the forest floor ,including how they are eaten by other forest critters.
Very good adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Don't know if anyone mentioned it but if you put a piece of reflector or even some aluminum foil between your wall and the lantern you will get more light as the reflector/aluminum foil will bounce light outward instead of the light shining on your wall. We do this with our lanterns when a storm takes the electricity out. I really enjoyed this adventure and I''m so glad to be a subscriber. Sometimes late at night I relax watching one of your videos - a nice end to the day. ~Sherrie in South Carolina
Greetings …love the shed! Those stoves are great to cook on and throw a lot of heat. More canvas tarps with extra grommets along one edge and hooks at the top of the wall so you could easily put them up and take them down would keep more of the cold out. Mosquito netting stretched over the ceiling could take care of the spiders. A couple panels of corrugated metal could close off half the open end and provide a fireproof section for the stove pipe. Maybe gravel the floor to avoid mud in rainy weather.
Exactly it lets the air suck in and keeps a flow of air on the coals because the pipe outside will "draw" the air through the stove when the vent is open... I know you probably know this Greg Tilton I was just explaining for those who didn't
Luke, love your videos. The shed in this video has potential for your camping experience.. YEAH... the little stove is a diamond in the rough. The trees falling in all that ice sounded pretty darned scary and LOUD!! Thanks for sharing your journey... Nice find of the deer antlers.
Thanks for making this video, Luke. I've been waiting for you to camp out in the shed since you first showed it to us. It's so cool that the old wood stove works. I think you should just make some improvements to the old shed and use it, rather than building a new one. The thought of reusing something so old and sturdy is really appealing - to me anyway.
With a little work and good planning , along with some viable materials the shed could be a perfect shelter in any weather situation , nice job and good luck , stay warm out there !
Hi there! I live in the UK and have just come across your videos... can I just say that your camera work is superb and I really love your wild stop outs, especially in the snow. That shed is cool.... maybe you could put a slightly raised floor inside? I wish I had this shed as a project! Keep 'em coming mate! Well done :)
Used to heat my house with one of those stoves during a Buffalo winter... Secret is to keep the door closed and put a 2 gallon kettle of water on top of it... Holds the heat in and moisturizers the air... Close up all the cracks. Used to burn old pallets, 3 sticks of wood would go all day...
Gday mate, I’m watching from a tiny town called Bealiba in Victoria, Australia. My wife and I just purchased a small 20 acre camping block. Your reviews have inspired us to do something similar to what you do. I love the videos, keep up the awesome effort.
Just be careful what kind of stones you use. In my area we have a lot of flat stones that is 'layered' and retains moisture inside. Used around a campfire, it will pop or explode sending little chunks of hot rocks and embers flying. Not cool when it lands on your sleeping bag!
Leave the shed, just chink the cracks. Its too awesome to take down. As far as black locust wood, I made hand rails and stairs in Maggie Valley at a mountain cabin with it years ago. Looks like I made it yesterday. 👍 used a chainsaw cause it was too hard for a table saw
well all I can say is that when you think that you have enough fire wood on your adventures that you go on always get extra loads I'll say right about four loads just to be on the safe side just in case you have to stay an extra day or night ok. good buddy & I really Love you're adventures and more to come strength and Honor 👍💯💖
It's here everyone, I hope that you enjoy it!
BTW, I'll be hitting the road trail...I mean road again soon for the next adventure!
Stay Tuned!

closing the door on your stove will allow the wood to burn WAY longer and still heat the room by radiation from the heavy cast iron once heated
I was wondering if anyone else would notice and say something. Also, one or more of those first logs should have been left and put in whole.
@ better than all those gaps and no heat

I remember those old cast iron, wood burning stoves. Growing up, there were 7 of us kids and we had one in each bedroom. Dad would get up early, light a fire in each one of them and then go off to work. Mom waited until the house warmed up and then she'd get us up for school. By then, she'd have breakfast made. It was COLD during the winter, we'd stay in bed as long as we could. When those little cast iron stoves got hot, they did their job really well but they took a lot of wood, though.
Looking forward to watch you repair the shed.
dartor100 ...I like to watch other people do the work too...all of it. That's why I should be The Boss... Lol
i know , i can see right through the shed , lol
Luke do you have any plans to repair / upkeep the shed?
Another excellent adventure. Thank you for bringing me along. Be safe and well.
This is hands down one of my favourite videos on the channel
excellent adventure man! that ice storm lasted one night here in Elkin NC and I endured a long cold night in a trap shelter that night. video up tomorrow night! same here, limb after limb falling. good thing I set up in a clearing. cheers!
Just found your videos. Absolutely love them.finding antlers is awesome. I found my first one last year. Thank you for doing what you do.
Love the old wood stove and lanterns. It was like going back in time 1800’s. Great time 👍
This reminds me of the time I went camping to a campground on my own - and not having the correct gear I decided it was best I pack up in middle of night and go home otherwise I was going be very very cold .
Great video, I enjoy seeing other people like camping old school as much as I do.
Get some pre cut wood bro
Be blessed
Love to see another one from the cabin, yes if I had this facility would definitely be doing some small upgrades. Best wishes from Northern Ireland.
This was great. Seeing someone enjoying themselves doing what makes them happy is what makes it good to watch.
But I don't think he enjoyed it. It's for views. Otherwise he'd never leave early
Your boyish enthusiasm is very entertaining and your knowledge is vast. Enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing. :)
Do you know how hard it is to wipe your arse with
3 quarters 2 dimes and a nickel lol lol
LOL!
I think I still have 15 cents unaccounted for...I just hope they are outside and not inside.
I was down at the pond when I was about eight years old and had to go and wiped with poison ivy! Didn't know what it was till later. Horrible!
Hahaha. Good one.
Yuk yuk
"I gotta go!" HAHAHA! Run! That stove is awesome, love that cabin!
I enjoyed the time inside. You can hear the sleet and freezing rain really good. We'll have to do this again, with Susie.
I just watched it again, Its just amazing! as I said last time, this is my happy place!
An appropriate video to watch in mid-summer. Thanx Luke. 😁👍😎
The "antler" is called a shed...Because they shed their antlers every year. So you found a shed by your shed...lol
Hahah Yes!
- Luke
try and look around for the other one.It may be nearby..
that definitely wasn't a deer rub on that tree lol
Well, it's out there somewhere. If the deer lose them annually how come we aren't tripping over them? @@sorehair7075
Great camping trip wish I was there . Keep the shed just fix it up that would be a good project for the short term. Great video.
Really looking forward more cabin adventures from you Sir.
The longer you keep that door on the stove shut. The more heat it will make. Making it hotter in the shed.
Also if you used the slide below the door it will make more heat
Exactly it lets the air suck in and keeps a flow of air on the coals because the pipe outside will "draw" the air through the stove when the vent is open... I know you probably know this Greg Tilton I was just explaining for those who didn't
@@TINYNumismatics No problem.
@@gregtilton1484 and that damper in the pipe helps too
@@TINYNumismatics And use the stove pipe dampeners to control how fast the heat escapes.
Luke I went back to watch some of your old videos. You've always been awesome at this.
Did you notice the blood on the bottom of the antler pretty fresh shed !! Love the videos!!
I love this guy, he can get the best out of the least. My kind of man! I'm subbing right now. Ty for sharing your adventure.
How cool, camping in the wilderness, connecting with nature, getting the forecast from a satellite a thousand miles in space.
With a little work and good planning , along with some viable materials the shed could be a perfect shelter in any weather situation , nice job and good luck , stay warm out there !
More shed videos please! Great video!
Love this area! You are so good with your adventures with yourself and Susie
Thanks!
Gday mate, I’m watching from a tiny town called Bealiba in Victoria, Australia. My wife and I just purchased a small 20 acre camping block. Your reviews have inspired us to do something similar to what you do. I love the videos, keep up the awesome effort.
How about putting some stones on stove to get heat retention through the night.
Great idea... we forget the roughing it things to do to help us in everything.
Just be careful what kind of stones you use. In my area we have a lot of flat stones that is 'layered' and retains moisture inside. Used around a campfire, it will pop or explode sending little chunks of hot rocks and embers flying. Not cool when it lands on your sleeping bag!
Haanjamils Yep ! and put one at your feet in the bed, remember warm feet sleep tide !
Or at least close the door on the stove and use it properly!!
Rocks can explode
I’d use my tent inside that shed... but that’s cuz I’m a big ass wuss when it comes to spiders.... that shack screams spiders...
Exactly ! lol
I'd take a cheap $3 tarp along and pin it up overhead, at least over the bed. Would keep the spiders off you as well as drips from any roof leaks...
@@chaburchak Hey, guys, there are some very amenable spiders.
Some spiders are to be screamed over. Especially when the shack gets warm....😵
It also Screams A Massive Fire Hazard !!
