    It is such a joy to see someone of your age take such pride is restoring old tools. In an age where most things are tossed to the side even if they still are usable, you choose to bring life back to these old tools. Amazing workmanship also!!!

      Kyle Noseworthy - Weiderfan yes it is , my father-n-law passed away 5 yrs ago and I brought his carpenter tools home and cleaned them up and put them away for the grandkids to have...! My oldest grandson is 14 and he loves doing carpenter work with his other grandpa out in Utah...! I'm retired carpenter of 35 yrs , had my own business building new homes and remodels...! I'm going to hand all my tools over to him when he graduates high school...!

    That looks like a Stanley #40 Scrub plane. Someone has taken the belly out of the blade and ground away quite a bit of it. I just got one off of ebay a couple of months ago. It's one of my most fun planes to use.

    Another beautiful tool refreshing!
    I need to find myself a nice little slab of stone for a perfectly flat working surface. I bought sandpaper months ago to sharpen knives, but I haven't even tried using it due to not having something really flat to lay it on. I thought about laying it over my cheap whetstone, but it's mounted into a block of wood with the guide angles on the ends.

      Thanks bud! A stone like this is super handy. You can buy granite slabs, but I was lucky to have a friend who works at a rock shop haha score!

    Hey Kyle,
    Really enjoy the videos you’ve been putting out. So much so that I’ve been on the lookout for old tools to bring back to life as well. Same as I did with the axe I’ll probably send em to you for a proper sharpen.

    I have a set of card scrapers that are some of my most useful tools...shape after rasping, clean up glue joints prior to sanding, removing material fast and in control.the cheap Chinese ones are just as good if the steel is hard. turning the edge burr is the key.

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to pick up a set David! Do you happen to have a link to a good cheap set you have used?

    • @davidparry8514
      @davidparry8514 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Kyle,I got a set (Chinese) from a catalog for under $10.00 for 5 pcs. mostly rectangular but one curved & one w/ a convex and concave end.They save so much work in the shop getting glue joints cleaned up for further finishing & etc.I mostly use a straight edge, so one pc. would suffice for me.You can burnish the end to sharpen w/ an old wrench or some sort of hard steel hand tool.Don't bother buying a "burrin" or "burnisher"Wear cheap gloves and watch the shavings fly.Good luck

    Put the blade in and tension it while you flatten the sole. That is how it will be when you use it. The metal will deform very slightly under tension.

    Does anybody know what type/no. This plane is? My mum won me a bunch of old hand tools at auction for me to restore and use and this plane is one of the tools among them

  • @ChadMorgan709

    Beautiful little plane. I'd be curious to know where it came from. It has a tool crib number engraved into the side of the body so somebody out there has seen it before! Great job as always and until next time!

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could you explain the number? I havent seen that before?

    • @ChadMorgan709
      @ChadMorgan709 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Noseworthy - Weiderfan chances are it's a lot number from a tool room or trailer so a company can keep track of their stuff. Say you went to the tool crib attendant and checked the plane out, he'd record your name, time and the lot number of the tool so they know where it is and who has it.

    I'd love to have a plane from 1928 as it was the year my father was born, and you got it looking very pretty. I’d go looking for one, but as I was ordering my No. 5 1/2 I heard a voice just like mine saying to my wife: "This will be my last plane for a while now, I promise."

    If my old woodwork teacher saw a plane being put down on its sole or shoe he would hit the roof and the poor unfortunate sod that did it lol

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people say that. In this case its safer to lay it on its sole

    • @thegit8698
      @thegit8698 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Noseworthy - Weiderfan please don't think that I'm telling you how to handle your tools because I'm not and I realise that it may seem that way, it's just that if you was in my woodwork class and my old teacher saw you do that he would pop a fuse and that has stuck with me all these years lol, he had one leg shorter than the other but that didn't slow him down, he was a great teacher but had a bit of a temper

    • @nailgunnercolbeck
      @nailgunnercolbeck 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi guys, just a quick one I was also taught to put planes on the side too but my grandfather was a master cabinet maker and he used to say that they only told us to lay them on edge so the blade didn’t get damaged. Now let’s look at that! If you are a teacher with a class of people that damaged the blades of the planes that an awfully lot of time sharpening and or removing chips from the blade for the teacher. So to stop this they told all pupils to lay planes on edge and chisels on the mallet handle. Just a bit of info.and Andre keep up the good work I too restore old planes, chisels, saws etc. All the best guys Chris c Correctcut carpentry.👍👍
