Lou Donaldson playing the alto on Tighten Up with Bernard Purdie will perk my soul up.
I've been diggin Lou a long time to.
Lou is one of the all-time greats of bebop and hard bop. In particular, his 1953-54 recordings with Clifford Brown and Elmo Hope are among the greatest jazz ever recorded.
No shit! Cool ass lou, with the boppin' funky, soulful, bluesy jazz solo
From myself and all the musicians from West Badin N.C.thank you Mr.Lou Donaldson for leading the way.Drummer
This is the best edition of "Tighten Up" I ever heard.
Man dats , season funk!!! So funky I can slice it and serve everyone a piece!!! Ole school musicians, listen how they break it down ! No over powering each other, just plain groovin.
There is no such thing as best in anything. There are many wonderful players with unique contributions. Enjoy them all and learn from them.
Every time I think I've seen the greatest guitar player along comes someone else...David T. is somethin' else.
I keep coming back to listen to this from time to time after stumbling on it a few years back. It is one of the most incredible pieces of music I have ever heard and I've heard it all in my seven decades on this earth. The playing is of course incredible but the feel of this song is just beyond words. Thanks for putting this up for those of us that were not in attendance at this amazing show.
Tatanya Bivens you must be so proud of him . I grew up listening to this band " TIGHTEN UP "
""WE WERE JAMMING"". PEACE OUT.✌️❣️
Man, that was fun! What a collection of talents on display here.
When music was real! I love hearing Perdie jiving along with his beat. I’m 69, remembering the good times. Damn, had it made and didn’t know it.
If this does not move your heart and soul you have neither !!! Some of the most talented musicians that ever lived .
Every Time I hear my Friend Bernard play I smile big time. But Every time I hear him playing on one of my recordings I thank the Lord. God Bless You Bro
.
So Cool 😎 I always liked this Song. This Version is Outstanding. Hats off to your Uncle Sax 🎷
His a bad man on that sax
Facts is they all are Awesome
I love it !!!! I’m 63 yrs old
This got me moving it Watch out now
Tynaya I salute you and Grandfather. Absolutely fantastic 👏.
I need about an hour more of this!
Mr Purdie is the one who has laid the foundation for every others to walk on here.... Grooving baring his soul out.
Toto's first drummer acknowledged this very specific, when he explained his drumming on Rosanna...
@@Retroscoop omg yes he did too , wow thanks for that info . I’ve seen that interview with Jeff Porcaro and can now relate to it
I've never seen anybody in my life as HAPPY and proud as he looked when he received the flowers at the beginning. Good for him. And these cats are all such whiz-bang musicians. It must have been a heckuva show.
Man , this vid. reminded me of my youth . 69 yrs. ago this NYRICAN was playing hoops with the BROTHERS in the playground . Keep the love alive .
Just a natural mystic, blowing through the air.. Smiles.
Great performance! I love when top shelf jazz musicians take a simple pop tune and turn into something special! Uplifting music!
A lot of these musicians also played on a CD called King Curtis Live at The Fillmore West .
The was the band for Aretha Franklin . Who also has. a CD Live at The Fillmore West .
Give it a listen , you'll enjoy .
Also, those musicians look and act better than today's rap and hip-hop and some R&B artists. I heard "Tighten Up" when I was 14 years old.
Where does this kind of talent come from? has it been lost? FABULOUS, one of my all time faves from when I first heard it.
Talent and class !!!! What a combo, master musicianship
That is what made them "Archie Bell & The Drells!"
My faith in humanity is restored. Absolutely marvelous. It can't get any better than this. It looks like they are having the time of their lives together. You couldn't buy that experience and expertise. God Bless All. B.
I listened to this in the sixties and was amazed to see it today! Thank you!
Archie Bell and the Drells just came alive.
I just love this beautiful jazz music
Old School cats doin' it up right! Beautiful music !!!
Right on..👍
Remember seeing my mom and dad dancing to this in the parking lot of the grocery store after shopping(to this song)I was embarrassed as hell and thought they was crazy but I don't feel that way no more and I know they wasn t crazy either.
Crazy? Normal? Educated?
Your parents were right enjoying life. 🥰🔥
@@funklover24
True that , yea but the freedom and joy it must have been for them at that time to break out and start dancing in the parking lot back then . Sad thing is..... try that today and a "Karen" will call the police on you , sad times today man.
@@motomweusi836 Let's hope the corona-shit will not last too long ... ;) This year I was looking forward to some phonky gigs, but it's all canceled ... really sad times. Incognito is publishing a new CD, one song just came out, really good stuff. Just one example. I hope, there will be a tour.
@@funklover24
I heard that . I'm gonna check out "incognito" and see what they putting down , so thanks because I've been digging stuff like "Tadow" by fkj & Masego, that's my flavor now.

I LOVE THIS SONG. GREAT RITMO. OUTSTANDING. THANKYOU SO MUCH. THIS IS DONE WITH A WHOLE LOT OF SOUL STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART. BLESS ALL OF YOU AND THANKYOU
Wow. As amazing as this sounds today, it is hard to believe this song is 55 years old in 2023. Truly timeless.
What amazing, amazing guitar.
Such awesome musicians. Love it.
Few people can create the magical High-Hat action that Bernard Perdie does. So much to learn from this great musician.
Ralph Flores Any drummer who is favoured by Steely Dan as their first choice drummer just had to be among the world's best.
Tony Collins .from South Africa.
only other person i can think of with that type of mastery of the high-hat, was Earth Wind & Fire's Maurice White...especially when he was playing at Chess/Cadet for Ramsey Lewis..
@@RJNumber45 or Jeff Porcaro. Stewart Copeland did some pretty technical hi-hat stuff as well.
We love Bernard. My eldest has been playing with Bernard since he was 9yrs old. Whenever they came to England we would travel down to London to see him. Ben is almost 28 now and you can see him playing with Bernard, Grant and Ruben on here. Oh yeah! Never rehearsed just plug in and play. The last song Grant first played for Ben about 5 minutes before they went on. “Ben Steele Music with Godfathers of Groove”
Fantastic! ♥️🥰
Wish I could have been in that audience!! Those guys are having such a good time and playing goooooood music! I would have been on my feet jammin' with them.
Tighten Up, as an instrumental works great..! especially when played by “Masters Of The Universe”
Man! This is music! If you don’t love this, then there is no hope for you
Man, Chuck and Purdie are one of, if not the best rhythm sections of all time. Outstanding video!
Sooo smooth, great musicians. Awesome jamming vibe. Felt every beat, sitting here enjoying. I'm jamming in all directions. REAL MUSIC🪘🥁😊🎺🎹🎸🎷😊😊
How cool is this?!! My old clock that hasnt worked properly for ages has suddenly started keeping perfect time again after I played this....with a groove!
This is what happiness sounds like :D
